Audio Volume
Time
I am very sorry about my delayed answer, I had totaly forgotten this thread.
Some info: The only way to change the audio volume, is by changing it's waveform. As the mp3 files do not contain a pure waveform, it is impossible to change an mp3's volume without first converting it to a wave file and afterwards recompressing it to mp3. Thus, when saving an mp3 with changed volume you have to be carefull with the output bitrate. Even the progs that do not give you a bitrate option do have an internal encoder with probably a fixed bitrate.
That beeing said, I'd suggest you downloaded the shareware version of acoustica 3.3 from tucows.com to do your job.
I hope this was of help.

VirtualDubMod can do that, but keep in mind that in order to input the audio in the program, it has to be multiplexed with a video stream in an avi file.
Adobe premiere can change a track's volume as well, and it can handle the audio file individually.
There are other tools as well, but most of them are file-type specific. If your source files are mp3s, I can name a few progs that will do the job.

Star Wars: Classic Edition by Ocpmovie (Released)
Time
Just letting you know, ocpmovie, I put the Classic edition torrents down from myspleen.
It was my written statement in all my torrents' nfo that I will not distribute oficialy released matterial.
As I want to be true to my word, that's what I did.
I did not take down any other releases of yours that I had posted, as they did not contain a movie officialy released.
On the other hand other releses from people in this forum that I had also uploaded were removed as well.
I am sorry if that makes you sad, but I concider it as an obligation to myspleen not to jeopardize the well beiing of the site by leaving torrents on, which might cause them legal issues.
I am gratefull for your wonderfull releases and want to thank you personally for giving your time and effort to them.
I want to believe that i did averything in my power so as many peole as possible could get them with no cost whatsoever.
I hope you can understand my decision.
Thank you once again.

Mpeg 2 Encoding
Time
Thank you Zion and Moth3r for your help!
I tried CCE and it works great! I didn't find any quality setting (fast, normal, slow etc) but the result was perfect anyway...
It was also a good piece of advice the one about encoding noisy sources. Aside from using Premiere's noise reduction filter, I'm gonna try to find some more sophisticated filters, and hopefully this will deminish the noise as much as possible.

Mpeg 2 Encoding
Time
Hi!
I am doing a preservation project of all my analog video-camera recordings of the past. Thing is, though the source is already of poor quality, I am totally obssessed about not loosing anymore quality due to capturing - encoding. So I ended up with some massive uncompressed files that take more than 400 GB of space.
Can anyone help me and suggest which is the best way to encode to mpeg2? I've read many threads where you people did multipass encodings that took years to complete, but I cannot find any mpeg2 encoder that isn't at least dissapointing qualitywise. I don't care if the encoding proccess takes 3 months, I just want the best result possible.
Any suggestions?
By the way, I'm on PC, but Mac suggestions are also wellcome (who knows, I might end up buying a mac to do my job)

VHS transfer help(sound).
Time
would it be too hard to manually adjust the output volume using a utility like Adobe premiere?

What I'd try to do is:
save the audio file
input the file in a progect in Premiere.
manually spot the times when the volume drops and apply volume filter on these points.
Export track uncompressed.
compress the track to ac3 or mpa
multiplex the audio file I created with the video I have grabbed.

I don't think this solution is what you originally had in mind, but that's what I'd do.

I've mentioned before that I plan on making a copy so that I can have a disc without any new artwork on it, to go along with the cover I'm making.

Is it easy to leave the game and Lego preview off of the copy?
*edit* - Yeah, and the menu also. I just want the movie on there.

You can do it with DVD shrink, but if you need a pro work, then you need DVD Remake pro, cause DVD shrink can only replace stuff with still images, it can't erase completely their existence, neither delete the buttons linking to these parts.

Has it ever been legal?

Thank you for saying this. As much as people have always said it's a gray area, I'd bet you'd have a hard time convincing a judge that converting your LD to DVD and then sharing it with thousands of people is anything but illegal. I'm not saying I don't look forward to each of your edits as they're completed, because I do. But let's not kid ourselves here. Whether you give it away or not, it's still illegal. Doing it for yourself is one thing. Sharing it with all of us is quite another. Just because Lucas looks the other way right now, doesn't make it legal.

And I highly doubt Lucas would send a C&D to OT.com even if this was all about prosecuting fan projects (he doesn't need a DVD release to do this though). He'd more likely send one to myspleen and the other torrent sites and tell them it needs to be taken down.

Wait a minute: If I have the original LD, I can have as many copies or transfers as I like in my home, provided that I do not sell them or progect them in public places. Backing-up is not illegal. Am I wrong on this one? I think the exact same thing applies to compuer game's no-cd copy protection cracks. As long as you have the original disc, you can copy it and use it with the appropriate crack to use your backup to play it.
I can number a few sites that on that ground continue to provide download links to such cracks legaly. Am I mistaken here?

Sorry for getting out of topic, but there are so many things on my mind right now, I have to share them!

STAR WARS: The Torrents thread
Time
So many subjects to talk about, I'll number them...

1) I had promised you 3 uploads for today: bh009, bh010 and arne.d's ANH.
Unfortunatelly, there are two reasons why they will not be uploaded today. I was caught off guard by the OOT oficial release news, that I spent so many hours on reading on the forum about it. These were the hours I was planning to spend on setting my server to host the torrents. I will be flying to Prague in 6 hours, and I was planning to leave my server open until I return to seed all the bh releases as well as arne.d's coffret trilogy ANH. Unfortunatelly, there is no time now and I'll have to postpone it. I'm really sorry about that, but you surely can understand how I felt when I loged-in to put some torrents up and I found out about the new release...

2) The other reason I will not be uploading arne.d's coffret torrent is because Arne and I had second thoughts about whether we shoud be continue to put up preservation edit's until the official relaase is finaly made. Should the sole announcment of an official release to come be enough for us to stop sharing preservation efforts? Rikter for sure thinks it is, but I'd like to hear your opinion on the subject, and will of course wait for quidelines from more experienced members on the subject like the moderators of this forum. Please tell me how you fell about that...
Should I also delete the releases I have shared?

3) I can't get access to demonoid to get the Phantom edittor's v.2 DVD. "The registrations are closed" are the exact words.
Can anyone please help me out on this? Is there any way I could get access? What is that "invitation code" that is required?

A SPARK OF HOPE FOR ... originaltrilogy.com?
Time
move?
You gotta be kidding...
I absolutely love this forum, and I'm never leaving.
To tell you the truth, it is the first forum that made me leave my lurking habits and actually try to be part of it's community.
I respect many people on this board, and would dare toi say that I even made some friends here.
I don't care if Lucas is releasing th OOT, I still wanna hear from you guys.

I know many people here feel the same way, so OT.com needs no spark of hope.

PS: I know you were just kidding Moth3r, I just had to say in my own way that I love you guys....

Edit: Oh, by "move" you just meant another thread on the same forum? ok, that's acceptable....

ORIGINAL STAR WARS TRILOGY OUT 09/2006 BY LUCASFILM

Everything that came to my mind when I saw that news had been previously stated.
I am very sceptical about this release though:
So OK, we convinced him, we finally are gonna be getting what we asked for, what we so politely signed the petition for, WE DID IT!
but wait a minute:

Let's suppose that this realease is real crap: No money spent on preserving quality and stuff, just a plain LD transfer with maybe a 1977 crawl re-incorporated.
What does Lucas gain?
1) money from all that will run to buy the release.
2) He makes us illlegal for sharing our preservation progects.

I surely hope this is not the case, only time will tell I quess...

Anyway, I put some real thought about whether I should upload arne.d's preservation project (as I have promised) after this news.
I really don't know what to do, I look foreward to your opinion on the matter.
