Han - Solo Movie ** Spoilers **
Time

I saw the movie in a preview screening and… I actually liked it! ^_^

First thing out of the way: Harrison Ford is irreplacable as Han Solo, no matter wether you agree with the casting choice or not. Given the impossibility of the task, the actor did a formidable job and there were a few scenes where he managed to get close.

Oddly enough, more distracting to me were the famous actors I knew from other appearances. They are all great, but just having them in there threw me out of immersion quite a few times. Especially Woody Harrelson stuck out to me like a sore thumb.

The most prominent character who really works is Chewbacca. Second to that you have an excellent Lando, who really is spot on in his portrayal.

The whole “Lando is a robo-sexual” thing is just blown out of proportions SWJ clickbait. What is shown in the movie could be seen that way, but is by far open to interpretation - even if you have read that dumb article and are forced to look at it through that lens. Lando just cares about his droid, much like Luke treated 3PO and R2 as equals instead of underlings.

The writing is fun and doesn’t do any over the top universe rewriting.

Other than that it has great alien creatures and what stood out for me: Droids! Lots of very cool banged up customized droids. Stuff like this really helped to root it in the StarWars universe.

Over all things have more of a used look, except for the Falcon which really is just so squeaky clean not because it’s brandnew but because it’s Lando’s ship who is all about style. You can almost imagine him looking for a different parking spot not to get a ding in the pristine paint job.

All in all it’s a fun little space heist adventure with Han, Chewie and Lando. And that is all it had to be.

Right now, I have to say this is (unexpectedly) my favourite post Lucas era StarWars film.

The Last Jedi : a Fan Edit Ideas thread

@darthrush
You’re right. It’s just something that instantly came to my mind as wish for an edit. I thought you could create the illusion Holdo went with the others. Since they left out a ton of command crew from the Force Awakens, it wouldn’t be too big of a disconnect. Unless the next movie constantly mentions her, of course.

@ziggyonice
Also a great choice! Alas, even more difficult to pull of just in editing. The continuity problems within all the scenes afterwards would be immensely more problematic.

I honestly doubt this 'sour grapes bickering' stems from disinterest in Mike's Legacy project. It stems from George Lucas' irresponsible attempt at rewriting film-history.

I have no reason to be angry at Mike nor the people who are critical of him. The only person I'm angry with, when seeing what Mike is capable to achieve and what might never be seen by anyone but a lucky few... is George Lucas.

Yeh. The profanity that went along with the criticism on Adywan's work was more than uncalled for. Unfortunate that things had to go sour this way.

Especially since he did not deem it necessary to elaborate where that kind of hatred of fan-made 'special editions' (or specifically Adywan's edits?) comes from. Why be that angry about a fan-edit? Just because they weren't done on the professional/aesthetic level he operates on? Awkward.

On the other hand I can't blame him for abandoning this thread. He clearly stated that there are certain roads he won't follow - no matter what. Yet, some of us kept trying to push him there. In my book that's just a precaution to avoid unnecessary red tape.

Preserving the "German" Original Trilogy (Released)
Time

As far as I remember, you could see the german voice talent credits in the movie theatre back then (if you stayed long enough to see it and the projectionist didn't make you leave by closing the curtain early).

However these were put there as a reel addition, so those were not included in the home video releases.

EDIT: Just got an idea. What could be done instead of expanding the official credit roll, is some sort of content for the extra disc. A photo of the voice actor with a short bio and filmography of films they voice acted in (or something along those lines).

Looks very good so far. Albeit, some of the lettering in the crawl (starting at 01:00 occasionally drags some sort of color-smear behind them (probably due to encoding problems?).

On a different note: Will you guys also add the german voice actors to the end credit rolls of the movies?
(It always kind of bothers me, that they were left out).

I just read the last few pages of this thread.

So, this will never be released to the general public?

Honestly, who gives a fuck then?

If this won't be released I can't imagine why anyone (but the creator of this project) would care in the slightest.

Well, I can only speak for myself. But as I see it, this seems to be the only way to have the opportunity to get such a preservation done at all.

Imagine this would not be done by someone right now. Then it could be lost for certain. And there would be no future possibility of a proper release.

So, from a 'cultural heritage' point of view - this makes all the difference in the world! Especially since we've learned that the library of congress not only hasn't the capability to do a restoration of this magnitude - it also doesn't have the prints to begin with.

Of course, I am saddened that I probably will never get a chance to see more than a few stills and some insight into the 'making of' part. I can at least be sure that the original StarWars is preserved and locked down in a safe place, prepared to emerge should the road for a release ever be opened up (by whatever circumstances).

Until then, Mike's offer to have a private screening from time to time represents a unique opportunity for a lucky few to see StarWars in all it's glory.

That's more than anyone could have hoped for just a few years ago. And that's why I give a fuck - even if I as a person may 'not get anything out of it'.

Star Wars Blu Ray Impressions
Time

Speaking of weird: Any german BD set owners here, who can confirm that Luke's missing lines from the german dub of SW (ANH) were put back in?

Quote from Schnittberichte.com:

1:35:06

kein Zeitunterschied

Just in case of anyone wondering about this... three lines are missing from the german anh-dub (very much like the "Close the blast doors!"-thing in the original):

Leia: "They're tracking us!"
Luke: "You know what's about to happen, what they're up against?"
Luke: "Well, take care of yourself Han."

First off I need to say I am not a PT hater. The PT is inferior to the OT but it could have been worse than it is. Yes that’s possible I had nightmares about TPM being worse. I had nightmares from 1999 to 2002 that the backstreet boys where going to sing I want it that way in huttese. And that Anakin would be played by the Titanic’s Leonardo DiCaprio. So it could have been worse.

Leo DiCaprio would have been worse than Hayden Christensen!? Ach du lieber!!

I as well used to be afraid of DiCaprio spieling Anakin back then. Today I just wish my fears would have become true... -_-

Enough of the GL bashing. Seriously is that all some of you do? If it was not for GL their would not be anything star wars. After all he is the one created the whole saga. We need to at least respect the fact he did made these films and not bash him everytime he makes a change to the films. But everyone has a right to their opinion about the changes to the films some like them some don't.

In all due respect: Being fond of StarWars doesn't automagically mean I have to be fond of it's creator(s) as well.

And when you talk about the necessity of appreciation - you make it sound like a one-way street... what about Lucas appreciating compassion for the theatrical cuts? At last that's the very thing that put him where he is today.

fair enough Master Sifo-Dyas but LFL is not lazy they corrected some issues on the blu-rays not all mind you but some.

Yes, they did not fix everything they were able to fix. And the things they did fix are merely patched up.

As I said: They don't work to the best of their ability. That makes them, lazy.

Excerpt from Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary:
lazy, adjective

1 (disapproving) unwilling to work or be active; doing as little as possible

2
not involving much energy or activity; slow and relaxed

3
(disapproving) showing a lack of effort or care

4 (literary) moving slowly

If you guys think I am a troll fine that's your opinion. But getting mad and complaining about the original cuts of the OT not being on the blu-ray is not going to get them on blu-ray any faster. They will be out on blu-ray someday it just won't be right now.

Sure. But what's the point rubbing our noses in it? I won't give up on my dreams.

Sure, you're right: The BD might be the best home release of the StarWars hexalogy - but that's the problem! They should look and sound best - not just 'ok'.

Lucasfilm and it's corresponding companies once set the standard for presentation quality (and forcing those upon others) and now everything they do feels sloppy and half-assed - even the material George Lucas claims to care about.

Uhh... turns out I should've been a lil less lazy and actually read what I dig up. The articles actually give a number of sold SKUs plus the overall amount of money they brought in.

Quote from above sources:

"... the Complete Saga on Blu-ray release broke global sales records with
1 million units sold and $84 million filling cash registers.

It quickly becomes the #1 pre-order and #1 catalog title since the launch of the high-definition format."

So, I wonder how many of these BD sets have sold now? I wonder if the sales have dropped significantly since the first week of release.

When I was going through the flyers in this Sunday's newspaper, I didn't see one single ad for the set- not in Target, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, etc. You'd think they'd still be pushing it since it's only been out a couple of weeks.

Too lazy to do the math myself - not too lazy to dig up a few sources for the amount of dough LFL raked in so far:

deadline.com: ‘Star Wars: The Complete Saga’ On Blu-Ray Breaks Worldwide Sales Records

movies.com: 'Star Wars' Blu-ray Sales Breaks Records Globally Despite Fan Outcry

movies.yahoo.com: Your Boycott of the ‘Star Wars’ Blu-Rays Worked! Oh, Wait, No, It Didn’t at All
