TFA: A Gentle Restructure (Released)

In either version of the movie, no one cares or talks much about the destruction of the Republic capital.

Which makes me believe it was a late addition to the plot (pretty sure it wasn’t Kasdan idea nor a recycled Lucas idea from his treatment, it bears the mark of JJ Super 8 Abrams). For instance no one says “we’ve tracked where the energy source came from, so we know where SKB is”. So indeed it’s implied that Finn provides the knowledge and the location of SKB. Problem solved !

Opening Crawl for Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Rogue One, currently in theaters near you.

Yes, I mentioned that in my post as well. But the saga films should change the feel of the opening as per the overall mood of the beginning. That’d keep things fresh, while not losing the familiarity. However, this is just my opinion and I understand that.

I agree this would have somehow been a good idea, but only if it had already been done to give each trilogy its own identity (and its own name: “Star Wars” for the OT, “Clone Wars” for the PT, “Rehash Wars” for the ST, etc.). But after 7 movies with the same opening protocol, it would be weird to change it now.

Yeah but in the theatrical cut there is no mention either in the Resistance situation room that the Hosnian system got destroyed by this weapon. I don’t have the restructure v1 on my working laptop to check, but I believe the SKB is mentioned after Finn is debriefed by Leia (tell us everything you know) and after the charging procedure begins (they are charging the weapon Finn told us about). I don’t see that much flaws here. At least it’s not worst than in the theatricul cut, and it breaks a little bit the rehash feeling of TFA. That’s being said, if a mention in the crawl about a “new powerful weapon being built in secret” could be added to address this issue, I would suggest to do so.

Great crawl, but I concur about the fact we don’t know the FO wants to kill Luke. One solution could be to reinsert one part of the theatrical crawl :

Luke Skywalker has vanished. In his absence, the sinister FIRST ORDER has risen in secret from the ashes of the fallen Empire and will not rest until the last Jedi has been destroyed.

Or you could also change the end:

Desperate for her brother’s help, Leia has sent her most trusted pilot to Jakku, where a clue has been discovered to find Luke before the FIRST ORDER does…

Or…

Desperate for her brother’s help, Leia has sent her most trusted pilot to Jakku to retrieve a map, which could lead to find Luke before the FIRST ORDER does…

If the last Jedi is Luke we will defo see an ESB rehash with Luke training Rey ffs!

No doubt Luke will be killed by kylo ren yawn. And Rey will watch him get killed!

So… uh… should Luke not train anyone? Should Rey not become a Jedi? Or are you just trolling?

Luke should definitely train Jedi and Rey should become a Jedi. But not in a rehash way.

Luke is in hiding. Luke being the last of the Jedi. Rey goes find Luke to get trained. By the book rehash of ESB.

To be fair, this rehash was primarily perpetrated by TFA.

I think Episode 8 won’t be a rehash, because there isn’t enough left material to rehash.

Here’s the new crawl. I am working on getting rid of the slight red flicker at the beginning. Very strange, and I don’t know what’s causing it!

I assume you’ve removed the “last Jedi” since Episode 8 title is known ? Too bad, it was a cool way to finish the crawl. Otherwise the text is good, but I feel there is still room for a little improvement over the vocabulary used. “Fractured” for instance does not seem necessary since it’s already said “ashees”. Or maybe “Fallen Empire” ?

Thanks MalaStrana, for the info.

Mala gave Rogue One a rating of zero out of ten, so independent of her rating of Rebels, I’d just keep that in mind.

I hope the moderators put an end to this kind of petty, vindictive, and childish posting.

This is a General Star Wars Random Thoughts thread and you appear to be the only one who is currently off-topic. If you could allow the thread to remain focused on that subject it would be most appreciated.

Don’t worry Alderaan, Pepe the Frink means well, he can’t be as bad as he seems. He just wants to be noticed, it’s cute in a way.

Reservoir Dogs is an absolute waste of time as it is a pitiful ripoff of City on Fire. It is not merely unoriginal but actually plagiarism.

The only Tarantino I don’t like (with Kill Bill 2).

So, not the only one then.

Technically it’s the second part of a 4 hours movie, which I like as a whole, so it’s still only one.

I would say… both. Not everything is good about the show, but a few episodes really pay off. I would suggest to watch the complete first season and the overture of season 2; if you don’t like that don’t bother to go any further (the middle of season 2 is boring, it gets better a handful of episodes before the ending season). Season 3 is a huge disappointment which barely uses the finale of season 2 and which goes in another direction of stand-alone tiresome episodes. It’s however important to be familiar with the previous series, The Clone Wars, otherwise you wouldn’t appreciate Ahsoka and Rex story arcs.

They actually are doing a better job with the cartoons than with the movies. But so far season 3 is very weak (I haven’t watched the last 2 episodes yet, but “Ghosts of Geonosis” was quite bad and very cheap), the new showrunner is not as good as Dave Filoni. Looking forward to watching his next series.

Here’s my ideal version of that scene without the pilot celebrations. It’s music only at this point, but I’ve also removed the lightsaber pickup shot because it feels like a prequelism.

You know: I’m very fond of removing the sounds effets here. Williams’s cue is sort of “mickeymousing” what’s going on screen, so it works and it does justice to the score which is not in competition with sound effets.
