I must confess, this is why I hope Octoroxx will someday complete his conservative edit take on EpIII.

Thanks, I liked the previous extended edition 😉 What video source have you used ? I’m asking because I remember v1 had a picture with many compression artifacts.
edit: nevermind, i’ve just checked v1 and the video quality is very good.
I missed when Star Wars (from 1977 to 2005) were serious movies without irony that break the fourth wall.
In fact this one isn’t really breaking a fourth wall since Jar Jar is clearly gonna speak with Anakin. But the SE Boba in ANH is one of the very few instances where that happen. Plus the Tarzan reference in two movies. So yeah, it happened before, agreed. Not on the current magnitude though.
The text idea is so weird. 7 episodes without any mention to that, and suddenly they are somehow important… but not (Luke didn’t read them, Yoda destroys them)… but important again since they finally got saved… but not that important because they only are saved in the blink of a shot… it’s really the weird thing about how RJ handled his Star Wars flick. A mix between taking things seriously but ultimately making fun of it… but finally not… but still a little bit… I missed when Star Wars (from 1977 to 2005) were serious movies without irony that break the fourth wall.
does it deserve a topic ?
Does this deserve a response?
(No, just a report)
😉
When I heard he was being brought in to replace Trevorrow, I wasn’t enthused.
At the very least, he’s still a better choice than Trevorrow (the Jurassic World flicks… gosh…)
and hope for a good explanation in the film for Palpatine’s return.
It’s JJ… I still can’t believe how he could miss that much the target with TFA. I’m pretty sure TROS is gonna be a fun ride to watch with great visual work and a damn fine Williams score, but also something totally useless and bland. It’s what JJ does: forgettable and dumb movies. I don’t even get why people are expecting something good or worth the Saga at this point. After 2 movies the ST has no plot, no real characters, nothing. The last entry just looks like a big fat ROTJ rehash…
If someone within the next year delivers a fanedit of Terminator Dark Fate that only does an audio edit to replace the lame score with tracks from T2/T3/T4, let me know 😉
How is it a big budgeted film can’t get Yoda spot on but a dedicated fan can?
Good question…
But for another time…
You know what even more dumb (à la “Dumb and Vader”) ? In the SE, the Emperor uses the exact same line Vader uses with Luke: “Search your feelings. You know it to be true”. I love this line, but with the SE it looks as if Vader thought “hey, what about speaking like Lord Sidious ? He sounded badass, I should do the same! He won’t mind if I steal his line, I’m gonna kill him with my son anyway, so…”

You got me double checking the Vader scream, as I was worried I’d made a mistake. However, as planned, the alternate ending version has the Russian version.
LOL you’re right, I don’t know why I misheard it 😃
Thanks for the uncompressed audio, getting them right now 😉
Hal, are you also going to release the uncompressed tracks ? I’ve just finished to sync the alternate track for TAS v6 (thanks again to Ash for rendering the file in dts quality 😉), I could do the same for LoE v6 (alternate ending version included, since I think it will be my go version and the Vader’s scream is the original one, I do prefer the less terrible russian one).
Btw, great work on v6. I really like you put back a few thinks I’m kinda fond of, but the most important thing for me is the Anakin shot inside the Temple while the Jedi are getting killed by the Clones. It’s just perfect that way. It’s very close to be the perfect edit of EpIII for me ( just miss the apartment scenes and maybe the “Sergio Leone” close up on Grievous, but they might have been tricky to incorporate in this new and better flow of the sequences). Impressive work on removing Chewie (I’m neutralto that change, but if I stay true to myself and to what I don’t like about the Sequels, I must admit that Chewie in EpIII was just dumb fanservice) and the droids (again neutral to that change, but the job is seamless).
Here his the alternate audio changelist I could try to make for v6 (considering previous v5 audio changes have been implemented in v6):
Added clone trooper’s “General Kenobi. General Skywalker.” (with added radio effect) from TCW tvseries (C1-C3)
Replaced Grievous “Ahhhhhh!” with “The negociator!” (C3 only)
When the firemen ships come to help Anakin, added a clone trooper’s “General Skywalker?” (with native and ressourced radio effect) from TCW tvseries (C3 only)
Added Palpatine’s deleted dialogue line to Anakin appointment scene (C1-C2-C3)
(You fought many battles the Jedi Council thought were lost. And… you saved my life.)
Added Anakin chuckling (C3 only)
When Anakin marches on the Jedi Temple, replaced the recycled cue with Vader’s theme variation from Joel McNeely’s “Shadows of the Empire’s Main Title” (All Channels)
Added a “No…” before Vader’s infamous “No!”
(well, not sure about that one… I need fresh ears)
(it’s kinda the “Clone Wars canon cut” alternate track 😄)
What about adding an acklay during the Vader v Ben saber duel ? Could be a very nice AOTC reference.
It’s nice commentary on where Adywan thinks the Prequels belong (a large, junk-collecting tank). I’m happy that it’s the only real prequel reference, unless there’s a skeleton of a prequel species in the rancor pit.
Yo, Ady, could you replace the Rancor with an Acklay? That would be GREAT, thanks!
I’m pretty sure that there isn’t a Rancor in episode IV. 😉
But could you add a Rancor in ANH ? 😄
- If we acknowledge the Prequels (say, Hal9000’s edits)
Even the official edits you know 😉
Btw well done Ridley, it sounds very natural. I’m sold on this idea now 😃
Only Grievous had hobbies, like collecting lightsabers. I presume the Sith were kinda jealous he had this idea first, so they just kept on doing nothing of their free time. Except Palpatine, an Opera enthusiast.
Don’t mention it 😃, you’re the one doing this incredible preservation work. I’m just glad I could help the best I could 😉
The comparisons to Nazism aren’t coincidental.
In Nazi regime a few women were known as pilots (and in France and UK during the same period you wouldn’t find many women serving as soldiers or pilots anyway). Besides, the comparison is weird: Germany didn’t colonize many countries and they haven’t kept their colonies for long, so there wasn’t that much black or arabian people to begin with in Germany when Nazi won the elections. So yeah German soldiers were white male during WWII… as were Polish soldiers, Italian soldiers, France metropolitan soldiers, UK soldiers, Russian soldiers, etc.
There’s no diversity at all in the Empire. No females, no other races.
Technically, the clones during the events of ROTS are officially the first soldiers of the newly founded (“first galactic…”) Empire, so Maori warriors were represented as a very strong minority 😉
woh very nice of you Ash ! Ok, I’ll send you the files when I’m done. Thanks a lot ! 😉
As I am thinking about the alternate audio track I made for V5, I’ve just found the following that I could duplicate for V6 (most of my V5 changes are no longer relevant for V6):
Replace Padmé’s “Ani” with “Anakin” taken from the deleted scene (All channels)
Add eerie motif at Kamino from McNeely’s “Imperial City” (All channels)
Replace ending cue with McNeely’s “Imperial City” excerpt (All channels)
As soon as I find time, I’ll try to do it.
Finally found time to do it. Currently in the work (not gonna take long; Hal’s v6 has implemented one change and fixed and other changes are not longer relevant with the scene that are back into the cut); luckily I kept the uncompressed files of each separate channel, so quality wise it’s gonna be the same as before. The export will be ac3 since I don’t have the tool to do it in lossless dts quality. As soon as Hal has finished and shared his EpIII edit(s ?), I’ll will make the same slight alternate track.
The two core ideas behind LOE have been having Padmé go to live on Alderaan and to shift the nightmare to after the other factors for Anakin’s turn have been laid in. An alternate version that forsakes these isn’t LOE anymore, but might be worth doing and publishing for those who would want it. It would have my other sensibilities about the rest of the movie, just not driven by those two ideas.
I would welcome a conservative take on EpIII with your changes, like what you did with EpI&II v6. I agree that adding back too much of what you removed would counter balance what you achieved with LoE (which is in fact a “restructured” cut, à la TFA:Restructured). It really depends on how much work it would be for you to put together two cuts.
I however still think that the balcony scene is important to emphasize Anakin and Padmé hapiness before the storm of events strike them. I can’t really picture how anti climatic it would be to keep it in the order you mentioned. Maybe you could move it elsewhere in the movie, after Anakin got appointed by Palpatine and before the 2000 petition.
I always thought he was late for the briefing due to his meeting with Yoda about the nightmare he had the previous night.
It looks like a very good scene order. I’m in favor of keeping the balcony scene, so I would be fine with any little adjustment to leave it somewhere. And that way you can keep most of the theatrical transitions.
(I hope with another break you’ll even find a way to keep the apartment scene “Not the Jedi I should be” 😄)
I do think there’s plenty of room for a second film with Han & Lando crossing paths again.
Not that that’ll ever get made. But the story leaves room.
Yeah but I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be as a tv series.
(and having finished the Dark Crystal tv series, I know it’s possible to make a very good prequel to a Gary Kurtz work through tv series)
