Does the PT work as a fun & fluff comic book production?
Time
Isn't the whole question of whether or not the PT would make a good comic series kind of a pointless one considering that there are multiple comic adaptions of them? All it would take to answer the question is a quick trip to the local comic shop or favorite online retailer.

Hmm...that wasn't really what I had in mind with my question, although I could see why you would think that, because my original post is all over the place and a little muddy. I apologize for that!

My question wasn't if it would make a good comic series, I meant, does the PT work better for you when you look at is as a sort of big comic book story come to life on the big screen instead of comparing it to the OT? You know, less Akira Kurosawa, more a product of the 50s and its space movies...

If that makes sense, hah!

Or does it take itself and the story too seriously to even consider it fun and fluff ( oh, and sorry if you dislike the word fluff, I kinda do too, but not enough to not use it in this case haha ;-) ) ?

Cause lately the PT has been growing on me ( and yes, I do remember making a thread here that went something like 'Revenge of the sith is the shit and the flies upon it' lol ) from a different point of view, one less attached to the OT.

Yeah, so we all know it sucks compared to the OT, but honestly, I find there's lot of good ideas and things to be found in the PT.

What says you?

Cash cow-abanga shit, another SW OT dvd repackaging for the holidays! Luca$$$
Time
Hmm..guys, this isn't a GOUT release, it's the 2004 release (special special edition? lol) put into a tin box instead of the carton one we got back then. It even has the same cover as the 2004 release...I don't think it's the best buy cover you're all talking about (I'm not american, so I'm not sure though, but I thought that tin box only came with the GOUT films).

Just check the link I provided in the original post and you'll see what I'm talking about, if you haven't already, heh.

Star Wars Trilogy: Collector’s Tin Edition - £39.99 RRP – Limited in quantity to 30,000 copies, the 4-Disc Star Wars Trilogy is packaged in a specially created and embossed tin for this release.

Sorry if this is old news or a repost. Nothing new, as usual, just the same old shitty discs from 2004 I think. Like the member bassbar on dvdtimes so perfectly put it: 'a new holiday season, a new star wars boxset................' They didn't even take the time to come up with a new cover, they just used the 04 edition and made it tin bwhahaha...pathetic.

Fuckin' cash cow-abanga shit! :/

Why the hell did the lazy Emperor even think Luke would join the dark side and become his new apprentice?!
Time
The real moron of ROTJ is Vader. In ESB, he wants Luke to join him and overthrow the Emperor. He's plotting and subversive. All of a sudden in ROTJ he doesn't want to pursue that any more. He's just going along with the motions and doing what the Emperor asks. To top it off, he knowingly delivers a replacement apprentice to the Emperor. All this because "the power of the Dark Side" compels him to obey. Um, okay.

Hah, true. I guess this is the sorta thing you get when George Lucas writes stuff halfassed, right?

Excellent response, CO. Maybe I just wanted to see little more of that 'drug' you're talking about, but now that I think about it, perhaps it's better the way it turned out, leaving us something to the imagination instead of treating the audience like dumb shit as is the case with the prequel trilogy. Actually, you've about totally convinced me of the original trilogy's brilliance again, hah!

Wish I could write some more, but I gotta go to college. Catch you guys later.

If Luke wins, the Emperor gets a shiny new apprentice.

I don't believe that one bit, actually. There's no reason to believe Luke would ever join the emperor, even if he killed his father, Darth Vader (lol), using the dark side of the force. I'd reckon Luke would rather be killed and tortured by the emperor than join him. Throughout the entire tirlogy there is no indication of Luke descending to the dark side, with perhaps the exception of the philosophic cave meeting that took place in ESB and maybe some of the anti-Obi-wan-ness. If George Lucas wanted us to believe Luke could turn to the dark side, he should have made a better case imo. Still, this is only a very, very minor flaw for me.

I thought the Emperor was pretty creepy, and it's still a great performance. He can be lazy like an old man cos he yields such great power, and his sardonic tone is fantastic IMO.

Off course. It is a great performance, but that's not the point. The point is, the emperor doesn't put any effort into turning Luke to the dark side, it's like he doesn't really care. I'm sure creepiness and sardonicism alone can't reverse somebody, if anything it should make you stay the fuck away from that path! Luke seems like a pretty normal, farmboy sorta guy, apart from having a lil bro on sis action, don't think creepiness and sardonicism are his game.

He just sits there on his throne being a smug fuck, occasionally dispensing some dumb, little threats. He could have had more luck baking Luke an especially, dark chocolate cake!

Even though the prequels are horrible, at least the emperor made more of an effort luring Anakin to the dark side. Maybe after this, he thought every Skywalker would be the highly suggestible, retarded fool.

What do you think? Am I right or wrong?

I still love Return of the jedi, don't worry. =)

Did you guys read that thread by Go-mer-tonic at the IGN SW board? Ughh!

A few great great excerpts from Gomer:

' I have just personally found that by focusing more on the positve, I smile more.

Take it or leave it.'

Must be one hell of a smile!

' You know and when these people say they love Star Wars, a lot of times they have to point out "except for the newer ones".

What's wrong with that?

'You can't force the rest of the world to agree with you that the newer SW movies suck. At some point you have to accept the fact that they just weren't -your- cup of tea and that others think they were great.

Take charge of your -own- destiny.

Happiness is in -your- hands, and yet you -choose- to wallow in negativity.

You actually go out of your way in an attempt to drag others into your own personal hell.

You have no sympathy from me on this.

Your attitude just plain sucks.'

Hahah wow

' I don't know if I'd call you guys ignorant, but you are missing out.'

misisng out on what exactly? Sex, friends, fun, the best original SW trilogy ever?

'I'm just saying that I enjoy my life more enjoying things, and I wanted to share that secret with people who I assume never got that memo. '

memo!

' But like I said before, it's just a suggestion, waste your life however you see fit.'

Oh, you mean like you? Devoting an entire life telling people we're not smiling enough, not enjoying life enough, not enjoying the prequels enough? What a great fuckin' life, Gomer

Wonder where he went? I was browsing a bit on ign, lookin for some zelda information when i came across a star wars sub forum. I recognised the man immediately haha!

http://boards.ign.com/star_wars/b5072/140133584/p1

Topic is called 'Terrible attitudes from Star Wars "Fans".

Infamous Gomer lines such as 'I'm flat out begging chronic complainers to enjoy their lives. ' are passing the revue here ! He keeps on sayinh shit like 'I'm just saying you guys would probably enjoy life more overall'. He needs to look his own life first. I sure as hell don't think he's enjoying his life at all. SW appears to be the only thing he's got going in his life or something...

Guy needs to get laid pretty badly jesus.

So...today I bought Attack of the clones just to have a complete collection

Jeez, I see my thread turned into a prequel trilogy rating fest, heh. To be honest, the prequels are all on about the same level for me. I enjoy them for what they are; extremely, somewhat enjoyable, dumb shit that could never live up to the original trilogy.

So Phantom Menace= Attack of the clones= Revenge of the sith.

Oh, and the chase scene through the city in the night at the beginnning of Attack of the clones is still really well executed i think. I find it very exciting for some reason.

I do believe Revenge of the sith is the absolute silliest and dumbest of the bunch though, for such a serious story.

This reminds me. I probably hate every city/planet/architecture conceived in the entire prequel trilogy, hah. It all looks so fake, shiny and too planned out. Just the name alone, Coruscant, makes me shudder at the mere thought of it. And the jedi temple, ugh.

It's way too big of a contrast with the original trilogy. That design was off the chart, revolutionary and yet easy to consume and accept. Black and white ,a litty dusty here and there.

I know it was Lucas' intention to have a before the empire and an after the empire galaxy, but the before is just way to fuckin' strange and shall i say NOT COOL at all...

thought about this too please?

Great responses so far, guys. Thanks for taking it seriously!

...but Attack of the Clones really is a piece of shit...

That is great, Zombie. You write a very, well, thought out piece about the matter, and then you just come out and say it straight. It's shit! hehe.

You know, I wouldn't feel so bad about the prequel trilogy if it just didn't take itself so goddamn seriously. Like it's fuckin' important or something. It doesn't help itself that it looks like a crazy cartoon while being overly serious... And the politics, the politics jeez!

Since i came across a cheap, used copy and already owning the phantom menace and Revenge of the sith it seemed like an acceptable thing to do.

What do you guys think of this second installment of the prequel trilogy?

Boyyy...some of the special effects look extremely dated and unpleasant already. I still find it weird that the original trilogy's effects almost haven't dated at all. That said, there are a few scenes here that are quite enjoyable, like the chase through the city at night, i also like the scenes with count dooku (christopher lee has a great pressence and seems to be the only one capable of making bad lines worth something, well, and maybe Ewan Mcgreggor too) and uhh...i'm sure there's more.

Sorry if this topic has been done to death, but i'd sure like to read some of your opinions about the film. =)

New Star Wars Movie...
Time
I don't think he can. He doesn't have the talent (anymore). I'm still doubting THX 1138's quality to this day (thanks for that fuckin' CGI'd director's cut btw). It's basically a reconstruction of a bunch of other, professional works, yet I somewhat like it, certainly Robert Duval's acting boosts the film for me, guy's good in everything.

And the prequels have made me doubt him a whole fuckin' lot more.
