I genuinely want to know your beef with the film.

My beef with all the Nolan films is the fact that Batman is a comic book superhero, but they tried desperately to make it overly-realistic and overly-modern, and that makes them fail as Batman films, and they also failed at the realism they were apparently trying to achieve. The films don’t capture Batman. They capture Dude uses existing military equipment to become a vigilante.

Yeah, you make a fair point, but I don’t read comics, and I judge them as films, and in that regard, The Dark Knight is great, at least in my opinion.

Man, this week I have watched so many films (compared to usual). Thank god for school holidays!

The Revenant: B+

I really enjoyed it, probably the best film I saw that came out last year. The acting was all great, as was the cinematography and direction, which was astounding. The only problems I have with it are that a couple of plotlines were left unresolved by the end of the film, and various parts seemed like the director was trying too hard.

Kill Bill Vol 1: A+

This is probably my favourite film of all time, tied with Pulp Fiction, also directed by Tarantino. The style is just so rich, and the characters are really good. Soundtrack is stellar too.

Chappie: D

Thoughts listed above.

GoldenEye: B

The first Bond film I have seen, not counting half of Dr No, and I liked it much more than I thought I would. Bond was such a suave and soothing character, whom I always rooted for. Villain was also very good. Sadly, a lot of the characters felt underdeveloped and disposable, which brings the film down.

Tomorrow Never Dies: C-

Sadly, my second adventure with Bond proved to be a lackluster experience, with an awfully convoluted story, and a terrible villain with horrendous motivations. I did like Bond’s endless quips though, but they don’t save the film.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice: C

Scott Pilgrim vs The World: A-

I watched this film a while back when I was eight, and really liked it, and I was afraid that on further viewing it would be disappointing, but that was not the case. I pretty much loved every minute, the characters are charming, the direction is astounding, and the style is just fantastic. Really sad that this bombed at the box office.

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol: B-

Probably my favourite of the Mission: Impossible series, with great stunts and likable characters, but unfortunately the film is let down by a convoluted story and a pathetic villain. It’s definitely watchable, but far from perfect.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes: C+

I really liked Caesar, and the rest of the apes for that matter, but the human characters were all extremely clichéd and boring, particularly James Franco as the lead (can’t even remember his name). Pretty much every scene with just apes is perfect, but everything else falls short.

Did everyone else watch a different cut of Batman Returns than I did? The one I saw had medocre acting, a poor story, overly campy moments that don’t mesh well with the gothic tone, and about ten minutes of actual Batman. The Penguin was also very cringeworthy.

I’m not convinced.

I don’t try to convince people who are wrong, I just kick 'em out.

Can you try to convice me? I want to be an awesome hipster.

EDIT: I wasn’t heing sarcastic. I genuinely want to know your beef with the film.

The sun dipped low in the sky, tinting the sands of the desert a hot coral hue as it partially disappeared over the horizon. That is when the young man clad in a sharp black tuxedo appeared in the distant. Tall and lanky, he was still quite a handsome youth, with a strong chin, aquiline nose, piercing emerald green eyes, and short red hair combed back in a duck’s tail.

Walking slowly, at ease with the world and himself, he approached the young woman in the diaphanous white gown. This young woman was breathtakingly beautiful, with voluminous, wavy black hair, sultry blue eyes, a long, slender nose, full lips, and a delicate chin.

As the man spotted the woman and she him, they both froze. Taking each other in with their eyes, they seemed as if to slip into a limbo of sorts, a realm where time held no sway.

His mouth dropping slightly agape, the man raised his left arm, reaching out to the living vision before him.

“I see your true colours shining through. I see your true colours, and that’s why I love you.”

The woman smiled, the corners of her lips turning upward ever so slightly.

“So don’t be afraid to let it show,” he continued on. “Your true colours … your true colours … are beautiful …”

Raising her right hand, the woman took his wrist into her grasp. Tightening her hold ever so delicately, she gently tugged his arm towards her.

That is when she flicked out the stiletto blade she had been concealing in her other hand.

“I remember bridges!” she hissed, her facade of bliss discarded and replaced with the venomous countenance of a demoness. “I burn them to the ground!”

She then struck, driving the blade of the knife straight through his palm. Blood jetted forth from the wound in varicoloured shades and tints.

“My God!” he cried. “It’s full of rainbows!”

Truly beautiful.

Ranking the Star Wars films

My controversial list:

  1. Revenge of the Sith

The way it neatly ties up the whole saga with a little bow just slightly edges it into first place. The final confrontation between Anakin and Obi-Wan is what the whole prequel trilogy has been leading to, and George Lucas did not disappoint, especially when it is finished and Obi-Wan is on the verge of tears. Just a really good, underrated movie. A-

  1. The Empire Strikes Back

What more is there to say that hasn’t been said already? The pacing is great, the direction is great, the acting is great. A couple of bumps along the way, but as a whole, this movie is really great. A-

  1. Attack of the Clones

Yes, Attack of the Clones, the really bad one, at number three. That’s because of the whole Kamino sideplot, which really just hearkens back to old mystery and detective novels. The whole Kamino plot is just facinating and always keeps my attention. It also helps that it puts my favourite Star Wars character in the spotlight, Obi-Wan. Sure, the romance is very weak and awkward, as are the characters of Anakin and Padme, but the rest of the film more than makes up for this. B+

  1. Return of the Jedi

This movie is pretty good all around, but the laziness of the plot really doesn’t help. A second Death Star, really? The tone of the movie is also all over the place, cutting from dark moments back to lighthearted silly moments with the Ewoks. A good movie, with some major flaws. B

  1. The Force Awakens

This movie is also a good film, with its major problem being a lack of originality. The idea of Starkiller Base is just really stale, and when it blows up, I didn’t feel anything. The character of Poe is who we’re supposed to root for during those scenes, but he was barely even in the film, so I couldn’t form a connection to him. The characters of Rey and Finn fare much better, and Kylo Ren is a really interesting character, who I can’t wait to see in later episodes. B

  1. A New Hope

I am in the minority here, but I don’t think this movie is all that great. It has some really great moments, sure, but the overall story is very generic and boring. Darth Vader in this film is a generic bad guy, as is Tarkin, and neither of which ever interact with the protagonist, Luke. Ben Kenobi is just made to spout off exposition about the force the whole time, and when he dies, I don’t care. The lightsaber fight between him and Darth is also laughably bad, as not only is it visually boring, but I don’t care about either of the characters. It’s good, but very overrated. B-

  1. The Phantom Menace

This film is not only bad, but is extremely boring as well. All of the characters are boring, and my favourite, Obi-Wan gets nothing to do. Both Anakin and Jar Jar annoy me to hell, and they are the best characters in the movie. The story is also bogged down in politics and trade debates, which is not what a Star Wars film should be. C-

Ha ha ha! What a story Mick!
