I actually feel the opposite. I think the barge sequence is decent, but it isn’t something that justifies watching the rest of the movie for me. I’m actually not a fan of the Rancor fight, so it ends up feeling like filler. The only reason I’d ever have to sit down and watch the whole movie, is just to see the throneroom scenes at the end. With Rogue One, there are scenes throughout that I enjoy. I enjoy pretty much the entirety of the Jedha sequence, for example.

The Jabba segment, some banter in the 2nd act along with the speeder bike scene and the Luke v Vader/Space Battle above Endor is why I see watching ROTJ to be a mostly enjoyable experience. Not saying that Rogue One didn’t good scenes in the first two acts though; just wish there were more. Admittedly, if I had cared about Jyn more this probably wouldn’t have mattered as much as my investment in her would have made those first two acts more enjoyable. Especially considering that she gets all of her characterization in these first two acts.

ROTJ is a disappointment so many levels that I have no problem putting R1 (and even TFA, in my opinion) above it. Not sure if I agree with ROTS though.

It has a multitude of problems but it also has some of the greater moments in the Saga. And I’m talking about character shit, not spectacles like Vader butchering Rebels with his lightsaber. In general ROTJ had more substance and for that reason alone I can deal with the Ewoks because I care about the Galaxy and the characters trying to liberate it.

The excruciating 40 minutes at Jabba’s palace alone is enough to make me want to watch something else. The Luke and Vader scenes are great, but they still can’t justify me wasting my time with the parts that I don’t enjoy.

The Rancor scene, the banter between the trio and a decent percentage of the sail barge fight trumps the first two acts of Rogue One for me. While the hologram scene with Galen is great that is only one scene and the only other scene of real note is when Cassian murders that guy in the alley. The only reason I’m even mentioning this is because I’m glad Gareth at least attempted to have some moral ambiguity even though it’s implementation in the film was half assed.

The parts of ROTJ that I enjoy are spread out across the film and that makes for a far better viewing experience imo whereas R1’s are mostly in the last act. A lot of the enjoyment I get out of it doesn’t come in the form of good character moments or anything like that but from nice explosions and the screams of the Rebel Soldiers. That’s something I can’t say about ROTJ’s final act.

RE: soundtracks, TFA introduced no fewer than four memorable and eminently hummable themes (Rey’s, Kylo’s, March of the Resistance, and Jedi Steps). None of the prequels had more than two. R1 was indeed comparatively weak (apart from the Whills theme), but you can’t expect much else without Williams on board.

TPM:

  • The High Council Meeting and Qui-Gon’s Funeral
  • Duel of the Fates
  • The Sith Spacecraft and The Droid Battle
  • Anakin’s Theme

and there are probably a couple of songs I’m forgetting

Revenge of The Sith:

  • Anakin’s Dream
  • Battle of the Heroes
  • Anakin’s Betrayal
  • Padmé’s Ruminations
  • Anakin vs. Obi-Wan
  • Anakin’s Dark Deeds
  • The Immolation Scene

TFA doesn’t even enough tracks to fuck with ROTS’ Soundtrack and doesn’t reach the heights of TPM’s Soundtrack in my opinion. You got me on AOTC though.

Rehash all the things lol

If there was any standalone that was an acceptable use for established characters, this would be it - it’s what everyone wanted since the whole standalone concept was announced.

Everyone?

Alderaan doesn’t like fun.

I keep forgetting that some people recoil at the kiss of sunlight or the laughter of a child.

It’s sad that billions never got the chance to live but people like impscum use their time wallowing in a self imposed prison. Nothing but living corpses.

He should be ashamed of all his posts regardless of how long it takes him to construct them.

So he should have neutral feelings when he bigs up the OT.

Obi-Wan Kenobi? Now there’s a movie I’ve wanted to see for a long time… A long time.

Seriously this is the only rumored anthology movie concept I genuinely wanted to happen. If they use Ewan and go for a kind of Western vibe, as some have suggested, it could be great. Why? Because even though the character is familiar, the concept is different for a Star Wars movie. A smaller-scale, character-driven movie that’s about more relatable struggles and not about saving the universe or giving us answers to questions we never asked? That would be refreshing. See: Logan. In fact I can see this having a lot of parallels with Logan.

THIIIIIIS

Also I hope they make Cad Bane the main antagonist.

Only if he keeps that shitkicker hat at home.

:]

I’d love an Old Republic movie showing the final battle between the Jedi and the Sith and the rise of Darth Bane.

I would only want to see that if Drew was involved in the writing process.

I like the change of pace due to the fact that things like the meeting between Jon and Danny would have been pushed towards the middle of the Season. Secondly, Game of Thrones has always needed some trimming and for the story George is telling it seems sufficient to remove a few episodes to have the plot progress faster. Also the fact that this war with the Lannisters has to end soon for victory in the Great War to be viable makes me okay with the change.
