TV Shows on DVD ruined by music replacement or cuts/edits: Restoring them back to original state (a project) (Update: The Andy Griffith Show: Season 3 DONE)
Time
Hunter had a lot of music replacements in syndication and the DVDs, including reusing season 1's opening for season 2 for no real reason (the theme was the same, the scenes changed). Most of the music changes are understandable and nothing absolutely major, except for the two-parter in season 1 where McCall becomes a singer. The edits on that one are downright painful.

Robotech: The Untold Story / The Movie (Released)
Time

Wasn't the "alternate ending" included on one of the US releases of MegaZone 23? I don't know how complete it was, but I know I have both US releases of it.

Where are you sourcing the audio? I remember there was a rumor back when the original ADV sets were coming out that they were considering including the audio of the movie on it, since they didnt't own the rights to the footage.

I've actually considered doing the same thing, so I look forward to your finished product. It's not a great movie, nor is it a great part of the series, but it's still part of the show's history and shouldn't be buried.

Awesome news on this one, can't wait to check it out!:-)

Have you thought about trying to clean up Within The Woods? That would be pretty great to see.

Another Evil Dead project I was wondering if anyone had attempted was a preservation of the early 80s Japanese LD transfer, which seems to look a lot better than any subsequent 3:4 LD or DVD releases, which going by what I can find have warmer colours, are missing a lightning strike scene, and at points are zoomed in (I only have the later transfer - have only seen screenshots of the Hologram JP LD).

Some info here:

I see this Japanese Laserdisc for sale all the time on various Japanese auction sites. I'd be willing to buy it if someone with a LD player would be willing to convert it to a digital format. My only concern in use of it for a preservation effort would be the possibility that the subtitles are embedded.

The Vaultbreakers Collection - Disney Preservations
Time
I know a friend of mine was especially dismayed in the fact the Aladdin sequels, which were direct to video and thus never screened in theaters, are matted into widescreen on the DVDs. Only the old VHS releases have the proper 1:33 aspect now. I don't think I've ever heard of giving a matte to something that never had it before and didn't run in theaters...
