Let's say I wanted to create my own space opera. (A PT re-write)

I want the villain whose true identity is unknown to most, his past as masked as his face, and who evokes fear in his enemies and ally subordinates alike. The main differences between my idea and the character of Darth Vader, are that he can survive without his suit, there's no relation to the hero, nor ever any redeemable factor to him, and I'm not going to give him any magical powers.

Then I still have the hero, the princess, and the rogue. Thinking about combining the hero with the rogue to create something of an anti-hero (cross between Luke and Han... if you can imagine that).

For the villain, maybe a cross between Darth Vader and Dr. Doom (the comics version, not the horrific movie version).

For the hero, sounds like Sawyer from Lost.

Best,

Kevin

focuspuller,

Are you aware of a piano-only version of Memories of Green (without the beeps and synth)? I recently heard this playing with some other "muzak" at a Chinese restaurant. It was a very surreal experience.

Sorry for not answering sooner. No I was not aware. I think it's very safe to assume that what you heard was not from Vangelis, probably a cover from someone. In anycase interesting exerience. :)

Hi,

This piano version without the electronic background/clicks you probably heard was the Memories of Green taken from the infamous soundtrack, "Blade Runner: Orchestral Adaptation Of Music Composed For The Motion Picture By Vangelis ", performed by The New American Orchestra. Also, this version of Memories of Green was also used in the movie, "Someone To Watch Over Me".

Vangelis' original track, Memories Of Green, originated in Vangelis' 1980 album, "See You Later". Ridley Scott heard this track from the album and later, with Vangelis' permission, included the same track for Blade Runner.

For more information about Vangelis and his music, I recommend perusing these most excellent sites:

http://elsew.com

http://vangeliscollector.com/

Enjoy! And best of wishes on this project.

P.S. Beware. Once you've completed this, there will be bootleggers that will take your work and attempt to sell this for their own profit. Vangelis fanatics and diehards have been known to pay high dollar for rarities where bootleggers take full advantage of; this fanedit of the Blade Runner soundtrack would certainly fall under this category.

Peter Jackson the new Luca$???
Time
PJ / New Line Cinema have consistently delivered quality products and have given the customers the choice of purchasing the desired end product (i.e. Theatrical Version(s), EEs).

GL / LFL, is the opposite and has been very rigid to its customerbase offering limited choices. For LFL, which established the THX quality standard (is this an ISO:9000 standard?) which LFL proudly acknowledges, to offer and release the O-OT on DVD at poor to sub-standard quality back to its customerbase is shameful on their part. GL accepting awards, recognition and billions ($$) from his fanbase for his work on the O-OT and stating after the fact that the end results were really incomplete is negligence. It certainly worked to his advantage back then, and it's only right that GL appropriately reciprocates the favor in return to many of the O-OT fanbase.

I can hardly wait until the Ultimate Blade Runner package is released...

In the commentary, Rob Reiner mentioned he was leaving a dinner. A wiseguy from the Mafia ominously approached Rob, looked him in the eye and said:

"You killed my father. Prepare to die."

Lord of the Rings Extended versions

Listening to PJ, FW and PB on the commentary tracks of the EE's, PJ mentioned a couple of items which may be taken literally or with a grain of salt:

1. PJ mentioned that he may possibly re-release a 25th anniversary version
2. For the possible 25th anniversary version, PJ would like to tighten up the CGI of Gollum in FOTR and the wargs in TTT.
3. There are additional scenes that did not make the cut for the EE's. Whether PJ chooses to integrate these into the EE's or to just have an area for Deleted Scenes is anyone's guess.

And I own both the widescreen theatrical and EE versions My preference is the EE's. The commentary provided by PJ and the commentary with the actors are good, that is if you can sit long enough through these.

Did you see starwars.com on April Fools a few years ago?? They went retro. Everything was shades of green (to go with the computer screens of the age), they were reviewing one of the Han Solo books, a teaser picture of "a general observing a battle" (Dodonna watching the Battle of Yavin), and there was a poll:
Who should Leia end up with? Luke or Han.

I actually went to every page, and downloaded the entire retro site. Ive got it on my PC at home.

I'm surprised that GL even allowed that poll. You know, George always planned that Luke and Leia were twins from the very beginning.

Galaxy Far Far Away.

Hey back in 1980, I was rooting for Luke and Leia to end up together. That is, until Lucas threw out this bombshell. You know what bugs me? In the end I didn't mind that Leia ended up with Han. Just having GL make the last minute decision with the brother and sister revelation, to me is just poor execution.

Welcome Darth Vader; so long Anakin Skywalker, for now
Time
So the prophecy of Anakin, being the virgin born midichlorian chosen one who brings balance to the force, becomes ultimately responsible for nearly exterminating all the jedi (save two) and the deaths of billions across the galaxy? Qui-Gon, and all the jedi (save maybe Yoda) obviously misinterpreted this prophecy of bringing balance to the force as a positive thing for jedi. But in reality, Anakin fulfilling the prophecy, becomes the great tribulation and apocalypse of the jedi. Had Qui-Gon truly understood the ramifications, he and all the jedi probably would have done everything possible to prevent this from occuring, rather than allowing this to be fulfilled. Sure the end result ended in the death of the sith lord Palpatine, but truly the end results causing the near extinguishment of jedi and billions across the galaxy, was it really worth it in the end? The end does not justify the means. Qui-Gon should have left Annie on Tatooine where he found him. I tell you, it's madness. Madness I say!
