I just wish “a star wars story” was properly translated for the other languages, but no: it’s always “a star wars story” no matter where you are, like it’s a brand. Whatever, Disney… :\

Isn’t it a little weird how in the first movie, Han says that he’s never heard of the Jedi or the Force, but the Jedi only went extinct twenty years earlier?
He just said he didn’t believe in this stuff. This is also consistent with what he said in TFA.

Kid, I’ve flown from one side of this galaxy to the other. I’ve seen a lot of strange stuff, but I’ve never seen anything to make me believe there’s one all-powerful force controlling everything. There’s no mystical energy field that controls my destiny. It’s all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense.
In any case, I think Lucas originally wanted the Jedi to be extinct for much more years for the original movie, but this later changed with the next two.
Maybe “The Good, the Bad and the Wookiee”? 😄
To people like me, whom (I think I’m using whom right, I never mastered that) TFA and R1 failed to even moderately entertain, saying ROTS is better isn’t saying very much. Not sure if that’s part of John Doom’s reasoning. TFA and R1 are above the prequels in my ranking, but not by much.
It’s hard to explain my reasons in just a few words. I do think ROTS is a more entertaining movie than R1 and TFA, but not in a “full action packed blockbuster” way, but mostly because it seems to care more about its characters, its plot and subtexts. Despite Lucas’s well-known cold writing, ROTS has some of the most moving scenes of the whole saga. It works to me because, even though not everything was well executed, it was done for a purpose and under one vision: Anakin becames slowly aware of being corrupted, until he loses his very own identity.
In comparison, I think R1 and especially TFA lack proper visions and subtexts: in these movies, it’s all about the scenes, but most of them feel somehow formulaic and disjointed from the others, seem to lack a coherent purpose, which makes them look less interesting to me, emotionless, even boring in some cases. I’d like to tell more about this topic, but I’d need to write a very long wall of text 😄 I would if asked, though.
Of course there are a lot of things I dislike in ROTS as a Star Wars movie, like all those continuity issues and Palpatine used as a comic relief in some scenes, but I do think it is, overall, still a better movie on its own than both R1 and TFA, though not by much. It’s not a masterpiece, in any case 😄 , but it’s the one I keep watching occasionally, while I just can’t watch again TFA (R1 I can’t say, since I just saw it yesterday 😄 ).
One last thing: I’m definitely not a fan of CG, but when comparing the PT to the new Disney movies, I think it’s useless to bring up the CGI issue, because they all used quite a lot of digital effects (despite the marketing saying otherwise) and they both look CG, no matter what. The only difference is that the PT’s CG is older.

I don’t know how anyone could rate any of the PT movies above any of the other SW or “A SW Story” movies.
😃 well, despite being plagued by a few pretty questionable choices, I feel ROTS has still a more interesting story and a bigger emotional impact than both R1 and TFA, closer to ROTJ in this regard. Keep in mind that the version I’m familiar with is dubbed, by very talented voice actors too, so no bad acting.
I still think R1 is a good movie, though, especially in its first half.

Spoke to the projectionist at #SWCO and confirmed that these are the same 2K DCPs used for the OT Blu-rays. No 4K (except for Rogue One).
Do they even have 4K masters of the OT blu-rays? If not, I guess they’re going to go back to the negatives, but those are conformed to the SE, right? Which means, they either try to restore the OOT or they do a new SE based on the old SE: a Special Special Edition or something? 😄

Well, I still wouldn’t completely rule out a release happening this year (The GOUT was announced in early/mid May for a September release, and the bd has been reissued every two years since 2011 which means we’re potentially due for another release of some kind this year). Hell, even after hearing that George was showing up I still didn’t rule out an announcement with him in the room! We’ve known for three whole years now that there’s been a 4k remaster of his preferred version, which to me means he literally has no reason to care anymore. John Landis’ story would seem to support this.
The only reasons I can think of are, as stated:
-apathy
-misplaced sense of loyalty to George from Kennedy and the people at Fox… even though George doesn’t care anymore
-Disney wanting to maximize their profits by waiting until 2020That is simply how I see it. After 2020 they are out of excuses.
Also, releasing the OOT might first involve some kind of restoration, which may cost them too much compared to how many copies they expect it would sell.

At this point, haven’t we been patient enough? It’s the freaking 40th anniversary. If they can’t make a simple direct statement on the matter…
I agree. I myself have much better things to do then just getting older while waiting for them to release the OOT :\ I’ll stick with the DE.

Do you think we’re going to see plot similarities with TESB (like TFA with ANH) or are they just going to be minor things, mostly visual (if any)?
At this point I don’t even care anymore. I’ve resigned myself to the fact that we probably aren’t going to see anything until George kicks the bucket. And as annoyed with him as I am for what he did to this franchise, I don’t wish that on him. I’ll probably have kids of my own old enough to watch the series by the time the OUT comes out, and by then it will probably be some holographic 8K virtual whatever, forget about Blu-ray. That’s fine. I’m just glad this site exists so I’m not stuck with laserdisc transfers in the meantime.
I also can’t shake the feeling George has something to do with it. Even if the movies no longer legally belong to him, Disney and Fox are probably sticking to his vision out of some misplaced sense of loyalty, just because.

Dunno why some people expected an OOT release. The vast majority of people I speak to don’t even know there’s different versions, and releasing them around the same time as TLJ would be sort of pointless.

They don’t need to announce the OOT without Lucas: if they’re going to announce it, he and the others probably already know it.
I think they’re talking about the Saga as a whole: OT, PT and then they’re going to talk about the ST for sure. I don’t think this is indicative that they’re not going to talk about the OUT, though I still have little hope they will.
