Speaking of other terrans, the door is wide open for the Starjammers to show up, if the rights aren't tied up with the X-Men at Fox.

Current evidence points toward the Inhumans being the next celestial group up.

Not only did I really enjoy the film & got that 1977 feeling, what also made me very happy was knowing that this film came from the same studio that Ep7 is coming from,.....now I know that they understand what kind of film EVERYONE is waiting for.....I just hope I'm right

Except it's not the same studio. They're both owned by the same parent company but Lucasfilm and Marvel Studios are two separate entities with two completely different company cultures.

Now I would say that Lucasfilm as headed by Kathleen Kennedy has a lot of potential. But they've yet to prove themselves and Marvel hitting a home run is no indicator as to what Lucasfilm is capable of.

I knew someone would try & burst my bubble :)

...but still that parent company seems to be showing Lucasfilm what direction it should be going

STAR WARS: REBELS (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread
Time

I liked the preview, I think they have changed their direction of storytelling, I tried quite a few times on the recommendation of different forums The Clone Wars cartoon, but I couldn't get into it, I found it uninteresting and dull,....It couldn't hold my attention,.....but the clip of the Rebels toon had me hooked....and I'm looking forward to how it plays out

Dave Filoni tells us how it's different working with Kathy & Disney:

"It’s different than it was before in that when we worked with George, we were all at Skywalker Ranch. The animation division was almost separate within Lucasfilm. But Kathy [Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm] has brought us down to the Presidio now, so we work right where ILM is and we’re right where all the Star Wars films are gonna be made. We’re all on the same floor. And, you know, I think that gives a better community now. You know, it’s kind of like without George, we’re all banding together. Lucasfilm Story Group, Kathy Kennedy, the directors of all the new films, we all get together and talk about Star Wars and what’s gonna be best for it. So I’m very proud and I feel the responsibility of being this first thing out.

And in a lot of ways that’s why this show is kind of just so unapologetically classic in a Star Wars sense ’cause we all want the fans to feel that this going to be off on the right foot. You’re gonna recognize the music. You’re gonna recognize the look of things. I think there’s gonna be plenty of time in the future to get more aggressively different and exciting and develop new things in Star Wars you’ve never seen. But now is the time of just saying like “Hey guys, this is gonna be a great era for you, just buckle up and get ready.” And that’s what I want."

Amazing Spider-man 2.

Nothing Amazing about it.

Joyless and even more mediocre than the last entry.

Jamie Foxx a good actor hammy and criminally underused, Emma Stone is barely in it.

Not so special special effects, bad gimmicky 3-D web swinging. Incompetent to barely there script and direction.

Even the cinematography which thankfully was shot on film is just okay and not really mind blowing. Expected more from Mindel.

The score or almost lack of one, very little to no orchestral score, was not very good, what little there was like the opening was adequate.

No real theme under scoring the hero or the villains. Other than for rhino and that was pretty pathetic.

Worst part was the ending and the way they handled a pivotal moment in the comics and totally botched it.

Such a wasted opportunity if they only spent half the time and energy developing the story as they had the advertising.

2.5 stars.

I agree totally, I've never felt so uncomfortable watching a movie, it was the worst superhero movie I've ever seen (next to Batman & Robin)

What single (Non-SW) movie from the last 30 odd years has come closest to the spirit of Star Wars?... and why?

A new contender for this thread...

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

All kinds of Star Wars fun to be had including Chris Pratt pulling off that Han Solo-esque charming scoundrel who secretly has a heart thing.

Hell yeah!!

NOT in the same league......but top of the second league;)

If the prequels were as fun as this movie I'd forgive them for their flaws

So millionaire Navy Vet Jesse Ventura won his libel case against millionaire Navy Vet Chris Kyle. Kyle wrote in his book that he beat up 60 year old Ventura for being unAmerican. Ventura claims it was a lie.

The narrative formed by the media is really interesting. Both men are Navy Vets, but Kyle is an American hero (apparently because he killed more people than Ventura), he's also a "fallen warrior" although he didn't die in combat. Ventura, a former mayor and governor is scum, apparently because he didn't kill enough people, or they didn't like "Predator."

Ventura sued Kyle when Kyle was alive, then Kyle became not alive and his literary estate, managed by his millionaire wife (the book made over $6 million and the movie is coming out soon) was still being sued.

Ventura basically was vindicated by the court and recovered his legal fees, but somehow he's a bad guy? The wife is still a millionaire with more coming.

Is it an American thing that we worship soldiers so much, when two are in conflict we need to make up elaborate moral judgements so one is still a superhuman? I don't know.

Wow those guys get some pay!! and all for looking after Navy animals

I always wanted to be a vet you know

Here's my best guess at what's going on:

This rumored digital release in November will probably be the 2011 versions of the movies and nothing more. The big deal about it that LFL/Disney will probably make in the advertising is that this is the first time these movies have been made available to buy/rent as a digital download (which, to my knowledge, would be true). Maybe they'll throw in some itunes extras as an added bonus. We already heard Roger Christian say that his movie (forgot the name of it) might be included in said digital extras.

Meanwhile, we know pretty much for a fact that Reliance MediaWorks has done a 4k remaster of the OT. The comparison of the Obi-Wan/Vader duel with other transfers of the movie seems to indicate these are not the unaltered sabers. Since the sabers were still unaltered in the '97 version, this would suggest that at least some of the '04/'11 changes are in fact being redone. My best guess is that this was to be (and might still be) for the 3D conversion and theatrical re-release of the revised OT, an "SE 2.0" if you will.

Fang Zei replies "Search your feelings guys, you know it'll likely be true"

Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *

The question of "Is it Star Wars without Darth Vader or Luke" is a great one when it comes to the Episodic movies. The first six movies have in some way been about Vader. That may be Lucas retconning (it was always about Vader) but the truth is the Skywalker and Vader characters have always been a part of those movies.

If we watch all six films together, it sort of makes sense that its the rise and fall of Darth Vader because that's how Lucas structured them in the end. The OT by itself is about Luke and Vader with the others as side characters. With ep. 7, where does the series go? Isn't the main character (according to Lucas) now gone? Why even have an ep. 7 if the story is done? Both of the main bad guys are done. If you're supposed to watch all the episodes together, won't 7-9 seemed tacked on without one of the villains from ep. 1-6 showing up?

The one thing I think that's missing from Ep. 1 is Vader. I like that film but there is a definite absence there that I think caused people to not think of it as a Star Wars film and I don't think it has to do with Han or Luke missing either. In ep. 2 Vader starts to show up in subtle ways and then in ep. 3 makes his full appearance. I believe the reason people liked ep. 3 the most out of the prequels (meaning casual audiences) is because of Vader. He's that huge of a character. Think of it this way. You can make a good Star Wars story without Vader (KOTR, some EU) but they will always pale to the ones that have Vader in them since he is so crucial to Star Wars itself.

Well I'd hope they'll tie it together with the next generation of Skywalker,...the OT did have a subtitle back then of 'From the adventures of Luke Skywalker'

Each trilogy will have a Skywalker to bridge the next hopefully

The things missing from 'The adventures of Anakin Skywalker' were interesting normal characters (no Han Solo or Lando Calrissian type characters), an interesting story (trade blockades are pretty dull), a blossoming romance (well for characters we cared about) and of course The Millennium Falcon

For older fans. Getting made fun of for liking Star Wars in the 70s/80s.
Time

In Northern Ireland when Star Wars came out I remember all kids in my year were into Star Wars, the same as Jaws etc,....even the hard kids used to collect the Topps cards.....skinheads etc,....Star Wars wasnt nerdy,......nothing too technical.....just shoot em up & explosions

I remember in the queue at the cinema for SW & Empire, all ages in line... adults & kids, elderly & couples.....I remember seeing my Minister & his 2 daughters

Nerds liked Star Trek & Doctor Who,.....you wouldn't admit to liking them or you'd get the piss taken out of you

ROTJ seamed different,.....well I was 15 by then,.....but I dont think it was as cool to like it

.......but now,....right now,...In my workplace, I wouldn't mention Star Wars,...I would get looked at strange, like c'mon....an adult liking a childs film?

The Prequels & the EU (well all the unecessary technical over explaining stuff) have turned Star Wars into Star Trek

....but I'm happy with the bits that Disney has tweaked since buying the franchise

It's pretty sad to see Star Wars come to this, but it's the only way the prequels will get their fair appreciation. Disney represents EXACTLY what most people want. And when they get it, they will finally appreciate the prequels for what they are, which is something less populist, but more intelligent.

Whattttt!!!!!....you really have no idea what you are talking about......get to the end of the que!!!!!!:)

What did you think the Clone Wars were before you saw Episode II?
Time

DuracellEnergizer said:

Basically, as a kid I thought the Clone Wars was a conflict between the Republic/Jedi and an army of evil/mindless clones who looked a lot like snowtroopers with open-face helmets. Also, I had read a book at the time which mentioned that the Jedi had wiped the Mandalorians out during the Clone Wars, so I figured they played a part in the wars, too.

Yep, I don't know where I got something like that from also,...the Jedi fighting with normal good guys against an unstoppable endless army of genetically enhanced clones

A lot of blood,....barbaric.....instead we got.........you know what we got

I don't know...the new cartoon just doesn't feel like Star Wars to me,...it still has that Prequel Clone Wars style,....I hope im wrong, but I ll probably pass on it & leave it for the kids

.......but on the other hand.....I'm getting a '77 Star Wars excitement feeling from this.......maybe this is the direction the cartoon should be going

The only thing this Atlanta screening might've been the "first" of is a dcp made from the 2011 version, which in any event is still based off the 2004 Lowry master.

I agree that the RMW job was probably in preparation for the 3D conversion of the OT, which I would bet Disney is still gonna do.

It costs about $10 million to convert a two-hour movie to 3D. Each of the OT movies would at least do the same box office as TPM 3D, so I don't see Disney passing up that opportunity.

Don't forget it was Disney that pulled the plug on the 3D re-releases

.....hopefully they have better plans for the new scans
