Star Wars Despecialized Editions - Custom Bluray Set (Released)
Time

I think I’m done working on my covers. I’ve made two cover designs for each movie so I could have reversible art. Disc art has been hastily cobbled together as well. Everything is posted on imgur, so pm me for the links, I guess. If njvc wants to throw my art in his so I don’t get pm’ed, that’s okay too.

Forum member vexedmedia pushed me to improve my designs. Lazy as I am, I pushed back, but I’m thankful that he took an interest in my work, or rather in my fun. He shared this poster art with me for Jedi, which I totally stole from him for the below and I’m thankful for that too. Hopefully he’ll share some of his other ideas.

Again, these are for 14mm, Criterion-style cases, which I bought from Casetopia. They also sell a 17mm case, which I chose not to use at around 3am one morning and can’t remember why.

Please let’s keep this thread on topic and not derail it with heaps of praise.

Thanks a fuckin’ lot, Vexed.

(excuse my language)

Thank you for the kind words, Vexed.

The goal was always to make something that could sit undetected next to the other Criterions. I’m CLOSE. Obviously, I could use the Criterion logo and such, but this is more fun.

The cases that I ordered should arrive this week. In a perfect world, everything fits and looks nice when printed and inserted. If not, I’ll fix stuff. Also, I just started some disc art. Also, every time I look at the images, I adjust something, so I’ll need to stop fussing. Maybe I’ll have something final within the next week or two? I can’t assign a deadline to a hobby (I just can’t), but I also really want to see them on my shelf.

Thanks again.

No, no. There is a modicum of stupidity involved. There have been so many unfinished Criterion-esque covers that I thought I’d create some unfinished ones of my own. I’m still tweaking them, plus I won’t consider them final until the cases arrive and the test prints look correct. Because the two-disc Criterion cases were sold out on Casetopia, I opted for three-disc sets as well. But unlike njvc, my third disc is the grindhouse version of each. At the moment, I have two designs of each because I like reversible covers, though for Jedi, I may replace the droids cover with non-reversible Ewoks that are revealed when discs are removed (TBD when the cases arrive). Of course, someone can use just one cover and use whatever interior artwork they fancy.

These aren’t done yet in my eyes. I’m open to friendly, supportive, nurturing opinions (and proofreading!) because I just do this for fun. Please don’t ruin my fun.

Also, I initially started out making the discs thematically the same as if they all came as a set, but I got bored of that rather quickly. Instead, each disc is meant to stand on its own.

Song Of The South - many projects, much info & discussion thread (Released)

Here is a link to what the Disney Treasures covers look like. As you can see, it's sparse, but it matches about 15 other DVD's on my shelf. I'll make some changes for fttes when I get a chance, but this cover is designed for those people who want a Walt Disney Treasures cover.

If I can find my PAL UK video cover (it's somewhere, I know it), I can make a more traditional cover outta that.

Okay, so here's the story with the cover. I made it about two years ago, and I lost the files one year ago with a hard drive crash. Maybe I have it backed up somewhere, but I don't think I do. What you're looking at is a scan of MY cover that I cleaned up in Photoshop so it doesn't look like a scan. Or, at least, not too much like a scan.

So, I can make changes, but not too many. For example, I forgot the fonts that I used (I'm sloppy, I apologize), so I can't make too many changes to the text. That being said, I think the bit about Br'er Bear and Rabbit came directly from the PAL video release. So, even if it's wrong, it's true disney propaganda. And I rounded the runtime up to "Approx. 95 minutes" because all the Treasures releases have very vague runtimes. I tried to ape the Treasures cases as much as possible in design and content.

Now, the Treasures cases don't list featurettes, which is why I list none on this case. But I should probably remove the bit about "The product being authorized" anyway. Would that be enough room? The Maltin and Disney signatures should also probably go. I know I wouldn't want my John Hancock on something I didn't approve. BUT I LIKE having the signatures there. Shame on me.

I'll try to adjust to everyone's needs, but it's a lot harder to do with a scan than the actual file. I don't really have time to recreate it. But hopefully enough people out there like it. That being said, I did a similar Treasures cover for Captain EO. Which I also lost. But could rescan.

JM (who is gonna start backing stuff up now)

Info & Help: looking for... other ld-rips to dvd movies ex. blade runner int cut, songs of the south, frighteners dir cut - and much much more...

I am taking my time with, and might even eventually finish transferring my Criterion laser disc of The Fisher King. Not so much a transfer, but trying to append the director's comm to the released DVD, as well as the deleted scenes, costume tests, scene analysis and trailers, none of which made the jump to DVD. Has anyone else done it? Is anyone interested?

Has anyone burned this to DVD and watched it on the TV yet? It's possible that the white line on the right side of our computer monitors won't show up on the TV. Just a thought. I'll be burning it in the next day or so, or perhaps I can even hook the laptop up to the TV and check.

Personally, I think this one is a keeper. I've never had much use for isolated scores on DVD, but this one sucked me right in. It makes the movie feel like a very elaborate silent film or a ballet, or at the very least, a movie with no dialogue. I've seen Star Wars a heck of a lot, so this variation on a theme is welcome. I look forward to the remainder of the trilogy, and possibly one or two DVD's in which the soundtrack is replaced by Dark Side of the Moon.
