Harry Potter Extended Editions (Released)

That is some pretty awesome work! I’m planning on getting one of the new Mac Mini M1’s soon to do rendering. I’ve considered trying my hand at doing deepfakes, but knew I didn’t have the processing power for it. With a new machine, that may change. If I could get it to work, I would also consider changing Dumbledore in movies 1 and 2 to look more like Michael Gambon. Nothing against Richard Harris at all. I would just like Dumbledore to look consistent throughout the 8 films. It would also mean I could possibly release by versions of movies 1 and 2 since there would be a significant change from the officially released versions. That is well off in the future though.

Thanks for posting that video.

I came across a YouTube video this morning on the HP deleted scenes and did a double-take with one of them in particular. The group that made the video must have seen my edits because they used them in the making of their video. No mention was made of them, but it is clear they used them. The reason I know is because they showed the scene from PoA after Hogsmeade. In my edit, when Harry eats the candy, his face turns pink/red. That isn’t in the original deleted scene. That is an effect I added. But it is in this YT video. I looked at others they mentioned and they also show the zoomed in Dudley’s Redemption scene that I’ve been working on for a while. Was pretty cool to see.

It is what it is. I don’t see the video clips as spoilers. First, for fanedits, those that download them are supposed to own the source material. So those that get the edits should already own the movies. Without context, those clips should mean absolutely nothing to anyone that is watching the movies for the first time. I assume that no one watches trailers for movies then since those include spoilers. To me, that isn’t a valid argument.

But I’m not going to tick anyone off by ruining their experience of the movies. I’ll just leave the old intros on and be done with it. I wanted something special for the new releases, but that just isn’t what is wanted.

Since what I had planned on being a v1.7 release was ruined by someone else, I have taken time away from the community for a while. Recently I found the spark to start editing again and have decided to work toward a v2.0 release at some point in the future. I don’t know when that will be exactly, so don’t get too overly excited or ask me for previous versions. I will make my edits available again once I have completed the edits that I want to make and have found a new way to release them.

As a teaser, I have completed new intros for my releases. In my playlist, I also include intros for Philosopher’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets. Those will not be released publicly. While I made my own edits of those films, they are different enough from the officially released extended editions.

Finally, the HP Extended Editions shields are being retired and are now replaced with WW Extended Editions shields for “Wizarding World”.

It has come to my attention that the user that did this is now sending PM’s to people who have posted here with the torrent to the edit that he did. He has also threatened to upload the remainder of the edits to a torrent site as well. It is up to you whether you download these or not. I can’t stop you any more than I can stop him from doing this. It is not what I want with the edits I did. I have never uploaded my edits to a torrent site, so if you see one that way it was not uploaded by me and was uploaded without my permission to do so. Again, nothing I can do about that since they were made available to others.

As much as I thought things might die down some, it is becoming clear this user is determined to push me completely out of the fan editing community through his actions. Thanks for everyone who has let me know what is going on. I appreciate your friendships. They are what made doing the edits worthwhile.

I have a lot of thinking to do before I ever consider releasing publicly again. I know one thing that will absolutely never return and that is advance clips of my work. That is what caused this problem. I made the mistake of trying to get people excited about any upcoming releases and I got burned by it.

I tried to get the torrent taken down, but was told it couldn’t be taken down. I asked for my name to be taken off of it because it isn’t my work. I was told that of course it was my work and all he did was paste the upscaled clips into the video (of course removing my intro in the process). I could not convince him that what was released was not my work. While I made the clips, I didn’t upscale the content (nor would I have done that with low res clips), mine would have had an intro, and my clips would have been FINISHED! What I posted were sample clips. I haven’t even finished color correction on them yet. It completely ruined a real v1.7 release of my edits because there is this rogue version out there that has my name on it. I gave up arguing and just resigned myself to that version being out there.

If (and this is a big IF) I ever decide to release again, I can guarantee I’ll be a lot more stringent on who I give links to. Most of the people that asked never bothered to come here to be part of the community, to give feedback, or to even say thank you. To me, it is just common courtesy to do something like that. Maybe it isn’t as common as it should be. I really appreciate all of the sentiments, but things are still pretty raw right now. I want to enjoy doing this and making people happy with the end result. It is going to take time for me. Never say never, but right now I’ve lost a lot of joy in the project due to this.

It does suck. I did my edits for myself and felt that sharing them with others was a good thing. I guess I didn’t work fast enough for this user and made the mistake of posting teaser videos in advance of my completed work. I’m really broken right now as an editor. He has already said that he will make sure others get my edits, even though I have pulled them. It all makes me sad.

My edits are no longer available. I had a user this week on this site request high definition versions of clips that I have not released yet. When I denied him this it created an argument and he has now taken one of my edits, removed my intro, added in clips that he ripped from Vimeo, and uploaded his version to a torrent site as his own. As a result, I will be taking down all of my edits and my Vimeo channel. My edits will no longer be available as a result. I hate that one spoiled user has caused this result, but they have.

It has been my pleasure to be a part of the editing community, but I do not want my work to be stolen.

I’ve got 2 updated PoA scenes for everyone today. #1 is the updated Knight Bus scene. This was done to more closely match the original bus scenes better. #2 is the updated After Hogsmeade scene. I’ve added music background music, adjusted coloring, tweaked Harry’s face turning red, made one addition there, and removed the duplicated dialogue from the moving staircase scene that follows.

It is definitely an interesting time we are living in, that is for sure.

I will throw a little nugget of news out there for everyone. I got to playing around with After Effects the other day, testing some keying effects. I have never been happy with how the bus scene came out in PoA due to the way I removed the blue screen and how it changed the color palette. In some of my testing this week, I may have found a way to remove the blue very easily without damaging the color palette. This is a positive for several reasons. First, it means I can go back to PoA, fix that scene and possibly one other and have that film 100% the way I want it. It also means I may be able to use the same method for some of the green screen scenes to make those edits easier. I have been struggling with the Dudley Demented scene for quite a while now due to the green screen. If this eliminates those issues, I’ll be able to add at least 2 additional scenes back into the Deathly Hallows movies.

So, it has be a positive test week. Hopefully once we get moved in a couple of weeks and I get my new home office set up, I will be able to spend the rest of the quarantine time doing some editing for relaxation.

I’m glad you are enjoying the edits. I have a hard time watching the “official” ones now because I know where all of the deleted material goes. The originals don’t feel complete. I appreciate the kind words.

In all honesty, I haven’t worked on the edits in a while. I had a death in our family back in August which has knocked the wind out of my sails for a bit. I am getting the itch again to get back into editing to get my mind off of things. I have a small portion of the Dudley Redemption completed (the first few seconds with the wide shot of Vernon talking to Harry, saying this is farewell). In that part I have the green screen completely removed and it looks good. The next part is a bit more complicated since there are a couple of green screen areas along with camera movement. Once I get those set up, I should be able to complete that scene, which is the one scene I feel should have never been cut.

Keep an eye on the topic thread for updates.
