And what happens when they let him in on the plan and he disagrees with it? He blows it up.

I got no problem with that.

Like I said, a nit-pick, I could harp on nit-picks all day, as I did with my initial viewing. But in doing so, I ignored everything the film did well. But I don’t care about arguing about a handful of things I like/dislike. I just wanted to share my thoughts on the characterization of Rey.

I wouldn’t advise using that term, but you didn’t really use it seriously or anything so I think it’s ok. Just don’t use it.

I thought it was pretty clear that I was mocking people who use it, just merely stating I can see their perspective. I’ll keep that in mind, thanks.

The Last Jedi: Official Review and Opinions Thread ** SPOILERS **
Time

I just got back from my second viewing of The Last Jedi. I loved it and hatted it even more with my second viewing.

disclamer
I REFUSED to see anything about the movie before my first viewing Sunday night of opening weekend, not a single youtube video speculating, not a single review, not even anything beyond the first trailer. I wanted to go into it completely open minded and was genuinely disappointed by no preconceived expectations.

I did not take issue with the film because I “hate wamen”, I did not dislike the movie because my favorite youtube cringe-lord fan theorist was wrong. I loved TFA and I will admit, I see where the crowd that shouts “Muh-Rey Suuuue” are coming from, but I felt that she was actually a good character. When Luke in SW77 was presented with his call to adventure, at first he rejected it because he cared about helping his family. When his family was killed he accepted the call and went with Ben. Rey on the other hand, rejected her call to adventure almost throughout the entirety of the film, even when multiple people told her that her parents were never coming back and she really doesn’t fully accept it. To me, that was the most compelling aspect to her character and her charismatic performance just sold it to me on repeat viewings. I LOVED TFA, and I felt Rey’s character was a clever inverse of Luke.

I stick by my critique of the Casino planet pacing issue, with how dumb it was not to let a loose cannon like Poe who openly disobeys orders in on the plan, how every tense and dramatic scene was undercut by a joke that made me groan and cringe (a la Guardians of the Galaxy), how inconsistent the tone was, how strange the pacing was at times beyond the casino planet, the weird social commentary etc. These are all nitpicks, that have varying degrees of impact on the movie. Some large, some small.

What I found the most disappointing was Rey. I loved seeing her flirting with her darker temptations and her training as well as the Heroes come from nowhere angle (until it had the subtlety of a ballistic missile in the ending shot of the film). I really would have liked to see Rey grow more as a person. Earlier, when I thought her character was a clever inverse of Luke, I thought that after training with Luke she would have accepted her parents would never come back and been a better person. Or that she would have had a moment of weakness like Luke when he was training and rushed to face Kylo, which she does. But by the end of the movie, it feels like she learned nothing. It feels like she was overtly told that Heroes come from nowhere and by extension the audience. It doesn’t feel like she GROWS.

There are a lot of things I liked and a lot of things I disliked, but that’s the one thing that’s been on my nerves since I saw the movie a second time. If you’ve made it this far, God bless if you believe in that sort of thing.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

I had to go to Wal-Mart and by the Blu-Ray collection for all three. I’ll probably never even watch those.

All I have are receipts showing that I bought a copy and sold it.
Those two receipts are my entire Star Wars collection.

I mean, I agree with everyone else that this goes against the rules, but I picked up my copy of The Complete Saga for 25$ second hand at a garage sale (which I still own). At least Lucasfilm got their cut from you. I refuse to buy the original trilogy (or the prequel trilogy) at retail price AGAIN until the original versions are presented in passable quality. They’ve got my money from the 2000 VHS copies, the 2006 DVD’s and the prequels in theaters (and the 3D re-release of The Phantom Menace).

Help: looking for... Star Wars Trilogy - 1997 Special Editions
Time

I have no idea where you would find them, maybe on Usenet but I have no idea how to use that site so I’d be of no help there. Myspleen currently isn’t allowing invites and I hardly use the site to begin with. I’d try and look around the site. If you’re in the PAL region, I know there’s some Standard Definition television rips formatted for DVD5’s. I’ve heard they’re floating around but I’ve never come across them so I have no idea if the quality is that good or not. I’d suggest looking around other threads. Sorry I’m much help when it comes to the Special Editions.

Help: looking for... Star Wars Trilogy - 1997 Special Editions
Time

Welcome to the site bro. There’s currently a project dedicated to preserving the '97 Special Editions (http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/1997-Star-Wars-Special-Edition-35mm-Project/id/56979). I’m sure that someone out there that has the VHS or Laserdisc on whatever language your looking for will add it. I don’t know of any VHS preservations but you might get lucky looking for a Laserdisc preservation. Harmy has a preservation of the '97 version of A New Hope. It might have the language you’re looking for. You can find that here (https://goo.gl/1WGHBA). And here’s the thread (http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Harmys-STAR-WARS-Respecialized-Edition-97-AVCHD-and-MKV-now-out/id/16682/page/13#1091171)

May the force be with you.

1997 Star Wars Special Edition 35mm Project (a WIP)
Time

@Puggo/ZigZig
I found mine at a Goodwill for like 15$. I was actually there to pick up a new VCR/DVD player seeing as how mine died and I stumbled across it in their pile of VHS tapes. The outer box is heavily damaged. It looks like someones kid or dog chewed it up.

@Skippy The Jedi Droid
Okay, let me dig them up. I’ll try to get them up tonight. If not tonight, I’ll do it on Sunday. I’ll PM you when I get it done.

He did? I’m gonna have to dig it up. This ought to be great.

@Oojason
In the “provide more info”, I wouldn’t even put that.
I would put something along the lines of “promoting the sale of bootleg media”.

You are free to put whatever you wish, of course 😃

If I’ve already chosen to report the listing under the ‘Copyright & Trademark’ option, then ‘Bootleg records or unauthorised media’, followed by ‘unauthorised copies of media (music, movies, television programs and books)’ sections - and then just put ‘promoting the sale of bootleg media’ it is just re-affirming what they are - and stands more chance to be ignored…

Yet if, by informing ebay, that the owner and author of the content has stated they are only to made available for free - and never to be sold… that may give the ‘ebay monitors’ a little extra push into action (they can’t later deny they weren’t informed that the owner/author didn’t want them sold for money if it that exact point has been made) - and they may well rest on the side of caution - with the content owner/author - and remove the listing.

Just my two penneth mate.

I don’t exactly watch a lot of content that needs reporting so thanks for the clear up, that’s probs what I should have done in the first place.

Personally my friends and I didn’t like the first Hobbit movie, so I’m honestly amazed the sequels got made.

I am like the lone apologist for those films.

I picked up the Extended Cut DVD’s the other day from Walmart and I just got through the first one last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. I haven’t gotten through the entire trilogy yet, but if the next two movies are as good as the first, I’ll put them on par with the LOTR Trilogy.

They aren’t as good as LOTr, I freely admit that. They have lots of problems, and there are huge chunks of them that you could cut out. But the accusation that they’re as bad as the Star Wars prequels is frankly just insane. The casting alone puts them head and shoulders above.

Yeah after getting through the trilogy and reflecting on it a bit, I agree. I’ll try the theatrical cuts next.

Yes. Most of the people involved have other things taking priority at the moment.

Okay just wondering. I’d defiantly be willing to donate what I can when this is picked back up. I can’t wait to see this film. I have the 2004 DVD but have yet to watch it because I’d like to see the Theatrical Cut first.

So someone’s selling Ady’s Empire Revisited. Just thought I’d share it here seeing as how it’s one of the first things to come up in Ebay’s VHS Tapes section.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Star-Wars-THE-EMPIRE-STRIKES-BACK-REVISITED-ADYWAN-EDIT-DVD-case-and-artwork/253311956298?hash=item3afa91b54a:g:MZwAAOSwEaBaMiDJ

Lmao his reasoning “I’m selling a case and artwork and the DVD is a bonus therefore I think I’m avoiding legal trouble”

Yeah that gave me a good chuckle. I’m just baffled as to why it was like the 3rd thing in the VHS tapes section.

I’ll check it out, thanks. Is it on the spleen?

No idea I loathe that place.

However, I believe you can find all of the Heavy edits through his vimeo channel. Some may also be on fanedit.info.

I’m not a fan of it myself but there’s a lot of great stuff there I haven’t been able to find elsewhere. I’ll hit up Vimeo tonight, thanks man.

I have this idea of turning batman begins into a star wars short film by cutting all of the film instead of the bruce training, Adding lines from TPM and ROTS, Removeing bruces name with anikin and skywalker, rotoscopeing swords as light saber, and adding OT and PT music. Maybe

I had the idea to make a Top Gun edit replacing the music with songs from Judas Priest’s Turbo album. For the 99.9% of you who don’t listen to metal and post on a Star Wars forum, that movie was supposed to use songs from that album but the band turned it down. I started to get into editing video and tried to remove the music from the audio but It was WAY too much work. And it took me 3 hours to process 20 minutes of standard definition video on my 6 year old laptop (I’m using right now.) I was going to make a thread announcing the project once I got some decent progress but It wasn’t meant to be. If you have the technical expertise I lack and decent hardware to work on, go for it.
