Evangelion is one the best TV shows out there. I can’t recommend the Rebuild movies, though.
What’s up with these “if you could only pick one” threads? Single special edition change you’d keep? Single special edition change you’d remove? It’s as though you’re about to be dismembered and the executioner asks you “which limb would you like to keep?”. Impossible it is to choose a single problem to take away from the prequels and SEs, because it’s the sum of everything that makes them crap.
As for the topic in question, does it pertain to backstory that was ruined or anything you can think of? In the latter case, one could simply “win” by picking the story of some background character. I bet nobody would flip out if they discovered Dr. Evazan was IG88’s lover.
If it’s the former, however, I suppose I’d pick Palpatine since it was the charcter whose dignity was hurt the least.
But then it’s not real stereo, since the same audio would be heard in both channels.
Yeah, that’s what I was wondering. Without the stems, it’d be no easy task to incorporate the mono exclusive bits into a stereo mix.
Forgive me for asking something possibly ignorant, but what has been done for these? Does it mean you’re using the stereo tracks as a basis, while retaining the unique sound and voices from the mono mix? Or is it a more comprehensive work, using the score, the separate tracks from the dolby and editing of your own?
Evil Dead II, the most appealing visually, and where Campbell shines the most. It’s also the most nightmarish one, something that often the first film is considered. And the ending is a masterpiece on itself, while I like Army Of Darkness, ending the film on such a note is the perfect conclusion to this story.
Sometimes they’re just random words and noises playing against “music”.
Well, there are the Mawasian dubs from Ultraman and Dragon Ball.
The continuity of the sky is off, worse so in the Special edition, actually.
Subjectivity or objectivity aside, the original trilogy is better than the prequels until someone makes a reasonable argument proving the contrary. That is, one that doesn’t involve “theories” about circularity, comparisons to mythology or talk about George’s vision.
There’s no reason to change anything.
But he looks nothing like the Return version. Its inclusion implies he looked for 20 years like he did in Revenge then changed completely in 3 years.

The colors of the blu-ray are very strange, with many parts of the film having a purple tint and others (especially the Tatooine scenes) being brown and desaturated, to the point that some gradients may be gone.
And then of course, the DVD has that ugly pink tint through the entire picture. It’s almost as if Lucas could never decide how the movies should look and kept experimenting on each release, viewers be damned.
The calculator is a really nice touch, but is he supposed to be this fellow?
It’s funny how a lot of people at the time couldn’t accept that the prequels were objetively bad, yet with stuff like Wild, Wild West and the Tristar Godzilla they were like “wow, this is terrible” immediatly. With the special editions I was in denial for quite a while, with the “Wow, Star Wars with enhanced effects!” mindset. Granted many of these were telltale signs of how the prequels were going to be.
Yes, it has gotten worse. The extra cartoon aliens, the Blu’s DNR, “pretty hot”, etc. If I’m not mistaken, the colours are as messed up as the OT, too.
As for Yoda, however different Yoda looked from the OT, the special effect was still well executed. He was there with Samuel and the others, and the mannerisms were top notch.
I think both words are valid hyperboles to describe bad things, but people should avoid using them simply for the sake of being “edgy”. The usual “George Lucas raped my childhood” comes across as juvenile, and to a degree trivializes rape by comparing it to some guy making bad movies. Saying “(X) politician will rape America” is valid since bad office decisions do hurt the people in real, physical ways.
I still don’t get why Obi-1 goes to a weird library, then interrupts Yoda teaching a class; when narratively he should simply travel to Kamino after his CGI friend tells him about the planet. Well, in this regard, I don’t get why (someone) bothers erasing a planet from the maps, but leave behind a dart that leads to said planet. It’s conspiracy/mystery porn.
I’d assume the problem is not being able to separate the dialog/sfx from the music, which in the case of making a radically altered cut of a film is especially troublesome; because the changes in the score (even when helped by fades) make the editing evident, and gets in the way of enjoying a fan edit (happens far too often). To be fair, I don’t mind muting some portions of the film, it’s a perfectly acceptable technique associated with the restoration of lost scenes, the same as using stills or reverting to B&W footage; even using explainatory cards when nothing else is available. The downside is that the cut is admiting to be incomplete, but it’s better than nothing.
In my mind, for instance, such methods could apply to radical prequel edits; to present them as restorations of partially lost movies or with missing elements. Certainly doesn’t hurt to experiment in that regard.
I probably must be one of the only people who prefers ANH’ Vader, both the suit and acting by Prowse/Jones.
“You are part of a rebel alliance and a traitor! Take her away!” Love those hand gestures.
What are the other 9?
“I just assume that the force is giving them a few seconds of pre-cognition. Allowing them to know where the opponent will not be. Forcing them to do things ahead of time of fight defensively and hit the other person’s saber.”
“One of the dumbest videos ever! All fights in movies are like this. I feel sorry for you.”
“you know what else had sucky lightsaber fights? A New Hope”
The first comment is the funniest. The criticism of ANH’s duel is totally bonkers to me. Aside from that unnecessary spin Obi-Wan makes, it looks fairly realistic. So when and why did this “The first duel is so poorly choreographed” schtick began?
Hate to repeat what has been said ad nauseam, but only the original trilogy. With all the contradictions and visual discrepancies, it’s impossible for the prequels to be considered anything other than expanded universe or plain fan fiction. If Obi-Wan says him and Father Skywalker were good friends, they were. If Tarkin assumes Obi-Wan is old enough to have passed away, he is. If the Republic is said to have existed for 1000 generations, it did. If Leia remembers her mother, then she was alive during the time Leia reached the age of reason.
But most of important of all, the Old Republic is described as “a more civilized age” and that the dark times began with the Empire. This not consistent at all with a corrupt republic filled in manipulable Yes-men and heroes who behead enemies they’ve just disarmed.
I like Rose because she’s a talented actress, if underappreciated, whom manages to do well in most films she’s in (even if that isn’t enough to save them).
