Is the orange slip-case full bitrate DTS Japanese disc still available? And furthermore, does this issue have a full bitrate DTS track too?

This is so interesting, thanks for pointing that out. The dialogue in the 5.1 sounds so much clearer overall too. I wonder what the source was for the 5.1 remix?
Also, how do people find out stuff like why or how changes were done in a mix? Do the sound mixers give interviews where they reveal these secrets somewhere?

This has to be better than the current HK release, with non-original sound mixes and repeated frames at almost every cut.

Man, I hope Criterion manages to re-license The Killer and Hard Boiled. It happened with Salo, which I never thought would happen, so surely there's some hope, right? The current US releases are terrible, surely Criterion got the monopoly on superlative HD transfers for these?
why put the criterion logo on it? criterion would never touch the 5.1 upmix. if they ever would return for hard boiled, we probably would get the japanese video with proper color correction and a lossless cantonese mono audio track.
Well said :) Although, IIRC, the Criterion Blu ray template PSD that's available online has 5.1 on automatically. I guess someone didn't change it.

My worry is it just won't happen. Woo is not exactly a big player in Hollywood and the film is not all that popular. I've always loved it, and clear others do too, but I just cannot help but think that the best will happen is a US version of the unrated (European) cut. That would be something, of course, but a proper extended version would be a dream.
I used the R-rated version because later on I used the Unrated version of the leg shot to try and recreate where a hired gun is shot at the top of the stairs at about 1hr 24mins, it was never shown Van Damme shooting at him but you see the hired gun fall in the background.
You know, that was so neatly done I did not even notice! Nice one.
I do hope the footage exists from the 116m and 127m versions, so an official version closer to Woo's intentions can be seen.
Is there a reason why you chose to use the R-version of Douvee being shot in the leg and not the close-up from the International version?
