Escape From New York [spoRv] *BD-25 RELEASED*

Interesting point regarding the soundtracks... the original laserdisc track features the "Broadway Assault" without music underneath but the BD audio adds music all the way through this sequence.  The HDNet soundtrack has the original audio mix.  Never noticed that before.  The BD has an added line when Snake first meets Cabbie during their conversation in his cab (Snake-"That's real good").  This line is not present on the laserdisc or the HDNet broadcast.  HDNet didn't use the Special Edition 2003 audio which is the same as the new BD mix.  Interesting that the HDNet mix is 5.1 but still the original sound design... the laserdisc is original but 2-channel, naturally.  Where did HDNet get a 5.1 mix of the original audio?  Wouldn't it have been 2-channel?  That just kind of threw me because I'm wondering how HDNet ended up with a mulit-channel mix featuring the original version (no added music cues, no added dialogue, no alternate "Damn Redskins! They're savages, Mr. President.")  Anyway, BD Rebuilder worked like a charm for me.

Strange because BD Rebuilder 100% of the time works for me since I only use my AUS BD Burner to watch and burn Blu-rays.

So am I missing something about some of the LD PCM audio is different compared to the ones on DVD and USA Blu?

Conversion guide up here:

 Thanks Jonno!

I almost bought APOLLO 13 on Blu-ray for $10 USD yesterday but I passed it up for some good deals at Best Buy. Of course I pricematched. If I did see DragonHeart I would've bought that instead.

So, should this be the general HD DVD to Blu-ray disc thread for Atomik Monkey?

I did something like this, since I had both the BD and HD DVD. A -431ms delay is what you need to add to sync the DTS-HD MA to the VC-1 stream. I hope this helps.

Thanks! I'll use this when I'm compiling the Blu-ray version. Then I'll make the folders BUT I'll be uploading it as an ISO for people to mount with a virtual optical drive software and even burn it out.

Yup, this project is mostly for me but I figure I'll always share them. ISO > Folders. FAR easier to burn.

I have Apollo 13 on HD-DVD, and on AC3 and DTS laserdiscs too; but I have not found (yet) a free software to rip the HD-DVD to hard disk...

Also, I'm thinking about, as someone suggested - bigrob, IIRC - to make a variable aspect ratio version using IMAX footage...

That sounds damn great. I was just gonna rip the HD DVD video with AnyDVD HD and mess around with synching the audio from there. But I don't even have the HD DVD or the add-on, as I mentioned. More of a keep the film grain deal easy thing. Another multi-disc compilation too.

Happy someone recognized this is a good project, even if it has its compatibility problems... in a near future, I hope to solve those problems, and I'll also improve those three short shots with residual logos!

Andrea, your projects are absolutely perfect and worthy of multi-disc Blu-ray compilations of films. I'll be buying multi-disc Blu-ray cases just because of your projects, especially for THE THING and Escape from New York. Same goes for any [spoRv] BD25 projects you're doing currently and in the future. Well, as long as I'm interested in the film.

I have yet to be approached about getting the cinema DTS for this and I don't want to offer it just for personal or pet projects.  I want it to be shared for a project that everyone will benefit from.

A pm to me is only a click away.

:)

 PM sent!

EDIT: I don't want to ask for any necessary files until I'm actually working on a project but if I could get everything squared away ahead of time, even better.

You have stolen my project... (^^,)

Not for another few months! DragonHeart with film grain would be easier since I have the HD DVD for it.

Keep both audio tracks ad the BD audio was taken from the imax track

I figure main audio will be from the DTS Cinema discs, (I have to add you to my friends to receive PM) and secondary will be ripped from the USA Blu-ray disc. Which is the DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1

Would anyone happen to have the PCM 5.1 track from the LD for Interview with the Vampire? I dunno if the full bitrate DTS track from the DVD will suffice. Cause Uncompressed > Lossy.

So I’m rebuying a XBOX 360 HD DVD add-on player along with this film (including many other HD DVDs). Why? Well the Blu-ray disc has DNR applied to it unnecessarily but the HD DVD keeps the film grain. What I’m also going to do is rip bit-for-bit the DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and also English subtitles from the Blu-ray for this film grain retained project.

First post and will be updated often. Especially when I get the add-on player. I’ll also do one for U-571 and American Me.

EDIT: DragonHeart would be easiest since I still have the HD DVD.

BTW, I have AnyDVD HD and tons of other software. Just not the disc nor add-on player.
