STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW

Ady, you said you convert to Lagarith... I've found that Lagarith gives me weird glitches. You don't have this problem? Or have you learned how to remedy it? It always gives me a frame here and there that wigs out. So I often stick with HuffyUV.

I get the same problem, but only in Windows 7 64bit. I also found both HuffyuV and Lagarith a real %*$£"£! to install in 64bit.

Ady, you must have stacks of hdd's to do your work with lossless avi editing, which must be a real annoyance to work with. I speak from my own experience of course.

I'm curious what's the source on this DTS-MA news?

I just pulled it out of my ass. It was starting to get a bit dead in here so i thought i would liven things up a bit. It was all just for fun and no disrespect was meant towards anyone, including JT34

When you're on as many painkillers as i am at the moment it screws with your head a bit and my mischievous side comes out to play. ;)

Ah ok. I thought there was something mischievous going on but I couldn't put my finger on it.

If you are referring to tramadol, then I know EXACTLY what you mean. That stuff plays crazy games with your head. Well it did for me anyway. :-P

Star Wars 1977 70mm sound mix recreation [stereo and 5.1 versions now available] (Released)

Not exactly 70mm because we can't know what audio differences were present, but my versions capture the general feel of what they would have been like, if not the specifics. The RotJ mix I refer to above is the one present on dark_jedi's previous encodes. Sorry for causing confusion about different versions; it comes from the fact that successfully recreating a theatrical mix will automatically garner more interest on this board than something that is a fan-made hybrid, which is what my other mixes are.

Anyway--I just started a new job, and so haven't yet been able to send the ESB files to Satanika as I had planned, but I will be doing that as soon as I can.

Hey no problem hairy_hen, I just got a bit excited that's all! hehe.

I love your work on the '77 5.1 mix from the little sample dark_jedi of his V3 GOUT. To me it sounds so fresh and dynamic. Can't wait to hear it in it's entirety when dark_jedi's v3 release of his GOUT project is out.

Are there any plans for further changes in the ESB and ROTJ mixes in the future or are you too busy to even begin thinking about those? :-P

(sorry if these questions are in the wrong thread - I didn't see another one for your previous ESB and ROTJ mixes)

RotJ was done fairly quickly last year, and I didn't spend as much time perfecting it as I have for these more recent versions. Hardly any adjustment was made to the LFE beyond synchronising it to the original film edit. For the most part it sounds fine, but I recently realised that there are some places where the bass does again get too loud. So I am considering going back to correct them, though it wouldn't be anything particularly drastic.

So wait, is there a 5.1 70mm sound mix recreation or similar for ESB and ROTJ then?

Even the Reivax and Flunk versions seem quite dark in general so I guess that is just the way they are.

LeeThorogood, let me be the first to say that the rest of those ROTJ '97SE images literally made my jaw drop to the ground. They look so damn good. Laserdisc still continues to surprise and impress me. Can't believe I missed the whole experience of it back in its day.

Hey LeeThorogood,

Those pics of the '97 SE ROTJ look fantastic! The more projects preserving Star Wars stuff the better I think.

I was actually surprised by how blue/purple ROTJ looks in the 1997 SE like the 2004 SE DVD. I thought it wouldn't have the same colour timing (it's been a while since I saw the '97SE) but it looks like it's very close. Still, one thing I know for sure with ROTJ '97 SE is that the lightsaber colours are definitely great unlike 2004 SE :-P

I will definitely be following your work.

Nice work!

by the way, the pics were a little slow to load, for me anyway.

THX WOW Laserdisc Star Wars
Time

Heh, it's alright guys.

I was just a little curious about why it looks so good that's all. I didn't mean to kinda stir the confusion by referencing the 1997 SE/anamorphic.

The reason I am curious is because it just seems odd to me that this THX WOW demo would be demonstrating various clips and none of them actually ever be released into laserdisc releases. Surely they must be in reference/promotion of certain laserdiscs, that's what I am saying. If not, then I wouldn't at all be that surprised :-(

Yeah I saw that too when I was browsing the Star Wars usenet group. Seems like that guy has a grudge against Ady for some reason. Pretty sad that he can't be man enough to properly discuss whatever the issue he has with Ady like an adult.

Don't let him get to you Ady, this person has just made themselves look really kind of sad and pathetic by going to such lengths.

Harmy's STAR WARS TRILOGY "Partly Despecialized Edition" HD. !!! These version are now obsolete - Look for Despecialized Editions instead!!!

RETURN OF THE JEDI - PARTLY DESPECIALIZED EDITION REVIEW

Following the template of Adywan's great work, Harmy's proposals of de-specializing the Star Wars movies using the best elements from both theatrical and SE versions really interested me. From the start he never said he never wanted to take credit for anything Adywan had done, but only use what he had done for inspiration and use as a template for the basis of his edit.

I've always been annoyed with the 2004 special edition of ROTJ, with the various colour problems throughout and the screwing up of the lightsaber colours. ROTJ for me, when I was growing up, was a very special movie to me, much more than the Empire Strikes Back but on par with the original Star Wars. So when ROTJ finally came on DVD format and it wasn't the version I remembered, I felt like my favourite movie had been ruined.

For years I have desperately been searching for fanedits of ROTJ that might address the problems of the 2004 SE but most were edits concentrating on removing the Ewoks or various things like that. The only version that I could obtain closest to my childhood memory was the GOUT, which many Star Wars fans will know, isn't exactly the best version to watch either. So I was left with very few options and since discovering Adywan's work and realising he wasn't anywhere near a ROTJ:Revisited, I didn't want to resort to watching a VHS tape or laserdisc player at the time to be able to watch the version I remembered. So I tried to fix some of the problems that annoyed me by editing it myself, however I didn't have the software or the hardware capabilities to edit the movie or get the best quality results, and so for ages I scrapped the project and just didn't watch ROTJ for years.

After Adywan's work on recreating the ESB theatrical version using the foundation of the 2004 SE with GOUT effects re-inserted, it really opened the door up for Harmy. He wanted to bring a similar kind of edit but in HD. When he started with ANH I was interested but when I heard he was doing ROTJ it became like an obsession.

What's amazing about Harmy's de-specializing of ROTJ is that he has done it with very limited resources in terms of putting it all together. Unlike ANH and ESB which he stated he would be using Adywan's AVCHD versions as a template, with ROTJ he had to do everything from scratch - colour correcting and all. I was a bit sceptical at first, with someone attempting to colour correct a whole movie with limited resources but when I saw his clips and screenshots I quickly changed my mind.

Upon inspection of the movie, there is an obvious sound level issue which is very easily fixed with his audio fix that he has made recently available. This fix fully restored for me the sound to more appropriate levels.

What really surprised me about this edit, is the crisp detail and colours. Most HD versions I have seen of ROTJ have issues with video artefacts where the render and export of the video has been done poorly. This looks very clean and the colours look very, very close to the theatrical version. In fact, where the GOUT parts had been used, I could barely even tell the difference unless I really looked for it. Brilliantly blended together. Amongst these good parts, the brightness and contrast seems to have been addressed, which I always felt looked too dark in the 2004 SE, I can now see things that I couldn't even see before. For example, when Vader brings Luke to the Emperor, I can actually see more detail in the throne room, which I couldn't see before. But my favourite parts of all is the fixed lightsabers and Lapti Nek dance in Jabba's palace. The 2004 SE lightsabers and Lapti Nek scene in the SE always bugged the hell out of me. A pink lightsaber for Vader? and a cartoony CGI dance scene insertion at Jabba's place WTF!? it just does not look right to me at all. But rest assured, Vader's lightsaber now has a nice vibrant red and a white core, which before was a pink blended mess with the 2004 SE and the original Lapti Nek scene has been re-inserted. Harmy has also removed Hayden's ghost from the ending and replaced it with the original Anakin Skywalker ghost, which is another bonus, yay!

The only minor problem I noticed in Harmy's edit, is that in some frames there is a noticeable difference in brightness compared to some of the prior frames. I noticed this mostly in one of the dark scenes where Luke is fighting Vader near the stairs in the throne room. I barely noticed it on my setup but for some people it might be more noticeable, I don't know. Just wanted to mention it in case Harmy wants to make a fix for it.

Overall I can now definitely say that this edit sits in my collection as my favourite version of ROTJ.

Thank you Harmy.

I put it together for fun, the technical execution isn't great but it is the idea that counts ;-)

Hey that's pretty good Harmy.

Not sure if it's a problem at my end or not but some of the sounds in your trailer seem a bit out of sync with the video.

THX WOW Laserdisc Star Wars
Time

I have recently discovered the THX WOW demo which is made up of several clips featuring Indiana Jones, Willow and Star Wars, all apparently ripped from laserdisc. What surprised me was the sheer beauty of the Star Wars clips - which to me, looked as it should, and as I remember it.

I am curious to know, if anyone knows what Star Wars laserdisc this footage was taken from? It doesn't look the same as the GOUT source and it doesn't look like any other laserdisc rip I have seen.

Here is the THX WOW demo from someone else on youtube, but I should probably warn you that because of youtube this video is a lot more compressed than the mpeg2 version I have:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7so8AL4mai4

Here are some screenshots of the Star Wars footage:

The colour and detail at times from this demo puts the 2004 DVD to shame, where detail is lost in the alteration of the colour timing and contrast.

I'd like to hear some of your thoughts about this.

I doubt ESB is anywhere or it would have been uploaded as well I am guessing, but I could be wrong, actually I hope I am wrong and it does surface, the Flunk ANH looks very nice as NTSC.

msycamore you have a PM.

I am wondering where ESB is too. According to the nfo file for Flunk ANH it says that they have Episode V but not VI. So I am assuming it must be somewhere but simply hasn't found it's way to certain places yet (maybe).

Been waiting for the ROTJ 1997 SE

Want an AVI ?
It's ~1.4GiB with 5.1 AC3, presumed to be an upmix...

Just wanted to say a big thanks for uploading this. My VHS tape was worn out and this is probably the closest thing to that so I am very grateful.

Does anyone know if there are any high quality copies of the ESB 1997 SE floating around anywhere? I was so impressed by the Reivax quality and also hearing about the Flunk editions that it made me wonder if ESB 1997 SE is out there, somewhere.

Again, thank you for doing that Darth Mallwalker. :-)
