What's the Weather Like Where You Live?
Time

The weather is starting to get really warm where I live, and tomorrow it's supposed to reach 26 °C.

Suffice it to say, I'm not happy about this at all; it only reminds me that the sweltering hell known as late Spring/Summer is coming -- along with their temperatures reaching into the mid-high 30s -- which I can't stand in the least, as I don't have the luxury of living in an adequately air-conditioned house.

God, how I wish I lived in an area that never gets too hot or too cold.

You gotta wonder if there's gonna be a huge backlash to all of this. As noted earlier in the thread, a lot of fans on fb, tfn and elsewhere are pretty pissed about this already. I can't say I blame them.

Where was this backlash when Lucas blatantly contradicted the EU with the PT? Why does Abrams and the ST receive so much scorn when Lucas gets off scot-free without so much as a slap on the wrist?

These fans are all double-standardizing, cognitive dissonant @$$#%!&$, and they deserve to have their insular bubble burst.

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986)

It may not work well as the conclusion to the storyline of TWOK & TSFS -- and the whole "sound travelling through space" thing may really bug me -- but I just can't find it in me to dislike this movie.

8/10

Ok, how about this: the Gay Probe isn't sending sound through space because sound wouldn't affect all ship systems like it does. It's an energy pulse that travels through space that can disable ships, but once it hit's earth's oceans is creates vibrations to make a sound like certain mammals.

Alright, I can buy that. That doesn't really explain how the probe was able to pick up the whales' replies, though.

They wanted to kill Luke, but Lucas wouldn't let them.

Which is exactly why it would be total BS to just throw out the EU now. The big three are still alive in the books. Why else would Lucas be saving them if not to give at least one of them a dramatic death in the ST?

Because the children in the ST are going to be completely different from the children depicted in the EU. There will be no Jaina, Jacen or Anakin. Some of the new characters might be similar but they are not the same characters and there's no way they can retcon something that huge.

You don't know the power of the fandumb.

It's not so much about stuff fitting together as it is about acknowledging "yes, this stuff you loved still happened."

Except none of it ever really happened, because it's fiction, all of it. Labelling it "official" or "canon" doesn't make it anymore real than some fanfic a semi-literate schmuck posted on the Internet.

Sorry, I didn't realize you valued the Holiday Special as official continuity. I figured that most people would be glad that that monstrosity isn't canon anymore. I'll show more respect for it in the future, I promise. ;)

I consider it semi-canon for the sheer fact that I love the idea that something so bizarre could exist within the SW Universe.
