Am I the only one who would like to see the RAM in the new consoles used to give us better A.I and more alive worlds then better graphics and bigger worlds?

What I mean is imagine how much you would be drawn into a world that was only the size of the one in Grand Theft Auto 3, which seems small by today standards, if instead of feeling completely scripted the NPCs went through their lives more like real people.  I mean imagine a game world where the NPCs would take sick days from work, enter into relationship, take and leave jobs, get into arguments with your character even if it was not a part of the plot, and they would respond to whatever your reputation became in the game.

I have been playing The Sims 3 with a fan made mod that does this for that game and it feels so much more alive then anything I have ever played despite the fact that I have to turn all the graphics settings down in order to run it because it using a lot of ram to keep track of that stuff.

Maybe I am alone but if someone were to put out an RPG or GTA type game like that I know I would suddenly really want an XBox One or PS4.

I want my worlds to feel more alive, not just bigger and better looking.

Hey I am back!

I guess no one missed me:)

Today is the first day in about a month when everyone in my family has not been sick as a dog.  In my dog's case that is true.  He can not stand any brand of dog food, half the time he end up throwing it up and that is how sick everyone in my house has been so I have not been around and I missed you guys.

In lighter news my birthday went really well for everyone being sick and I was able to pick up some good films with my birthday cash.

I have an audible account and I buy one book a month from them and it is a great value, there is just one problem I can't listen to them when I am away from my computer in my bedroom because I can't stream and my iPod died.  I can download them just fine but that is it.

I have tried googleing ways to remove the compy protection so I can move them onto my generic MP3 player but nothing that came up on the search seems to work.  I know this is a long shot but I was wondering if anyone here had ever had to remove the copy protection from a audible file and if so how you did it.

Thank you for your time.

Even if you have a computer good enough chances are The Sims 3 will still crash since EA out and out lied about the system specs on the back of the box and there are huge problems like memory leaks.  The only reason it has run so well for me is that I use patches made by a fan group called NRAAs, fans had to fix the game.

Still it is the last EA game I can find that doesn't require an internet connection so I was able to get it use at a thrift store.  There are not many games I can say that about these days and I am enjoying play it as Dr.Forester and TV's Frank! right now.

Hey this may seem like a stupid question coming from someone who builds his own computers and it may be a little off topic but this is the first time it has come up for me and I figured that someone here may be able to help.

Does anyone here know of a floppy drive that will work with Windows 7?  I don't care if it's internal or external, I found a box a while ago filled with old floppy disk that have some old stories I worked on back in the day and I have program to convert them so Open office will be able to read them but so far all of the USB floppy drives I have tried just will not be read by Windows 7 and that is the only computer I have at the moment.

If you know of a floppy drive that will work with W7 and could point me in it's direction I would be grateful.

Thank you for your time.

All Things Star Trek
Time

You know after seeing Interstellar and Gravity I have to say I think the next Star Trek movie will really have to step up it's game if this series is going to continue.  It's clear the viewers are out there for stories where space travel is a danger and there are no real villains but instead have good characters and intense danger and that are told in new ways and if Star Trek wants to be a mega hit franchise they have to get on board with this.

I get the feeling that people will expect more creativity in the look of alien planets and the way the films are shot.

Maybe I am way off base and the next movie will be a huge hit no matter what but I have a feeling after these two films the average movie goer will expect a little more out of the next big screen Trek film.

Who's On First

Abbott: Well Costello, I'm going to New York with you. You know Bucky Harris, the Yankee's manager gave me a job as coach for as long as you're on the team.

Costello: Look Abbott, if you're the coach, you must know all the players.

Abbott: I certainly do.

Costello: Well you know I've never meant the guys.  So you'll have to tell me their names, and then I'll know who's playing on the team.

Abbott: Oh, I'll tell you their names, but you know it seems to me they give these  ball players now-a-days very peculiar names.

Costello: You mean funny names?

Abbott: Strange names, pet names...like Dizzy Dean.

Costello: His brother Daffy.

Abbott: Daffy Dean...

Costello: And their French Cousin.

Abbott: French?

Costello: Goofè.

Abbott: Goofè Dean.  Well, let's see, we have Who's on first, What's on second, I Don't Know is on third...

Costello: That's what I want to find out.

Abbott: I say Who's on first, What's on second, I Don't Know's on third.

Costello: Are you the manager?

Abbott: Yes.

Costello: You gonna be the coach too?

Abbott: Yes.

Costello: And you don't know the fellows' names?

Abbott: Well I should.

Costello: When then who's on first?

Abbott: Yes

Costello: I mean the fellow's name.

Abbott: Who.

Costello: The guy on first.

Abbott: Who.

Costello: The first baseman.

Abbott: Who.

Costello: The guy playing...

Abbott: Who is on first!

Costello: Well what are you askin' me for?

Abbott:  I'm not asking you--I'm telling you.  Who is on first.

Costello: I'm asking YOU who's on first.

Abbott: That's the man's name.

Costello: That's who's name?

Abbott: Yes.

Costello: Well go ahead and tell me.

Abbott: That's it.

Costello: That's who?

Abbott: Yes.

Costello: Look, you gotta a first baseman?

Abbott: Certainly.

Costello: Who's playing first?

Abbott: That's right.

Costello: When you pay off the first baseman every month, who gets it?

Abbott: Every dollar of it.

Costello: All I'm trying to find out is the fellow's name on first base.

Abbott: Who.

Costello: The guy that gets...

Abbott: That's it.

Costello: Who gets the money...

Abbott: He does, every dollar.  Sometimes his wife comes down and collects it.

Costello: Who's wife?

Abbott: Yes. After all, the man earns it.

Costello: Who does?

Abbott: Absolutely.

Abbott: What's wrong with that?

Costello: Look, all I wanna know is when you sign up the first baseman, how does he sign his name?

Abbott: Who.

Costello: The guy.

Abbott: Who.

Costello: How does he sign...

Abbott: That's how he signs it.

Costello: Who?

Abbott: Yes.

Costello: All I'm trying to find out is what's the guy's name on first base?

Abbott: No, What's on second base.

Costello: I'm not asking who's on second...

Abbott: Who's on first.

Costello: One base at a time!

Abbott: Well don't change the players around.

Costello: I'm not changing nobody!

Abbott: Take it easy, buddy.

Costello: I'm only asking you who's the guy on first base?

Abbott: That's right.

Costello: Ok.

Abbott: All right.

Costello: What's the guy's name on first base?

Abbott: No. What's on second.

Costello: I'm not asking you who's on second.

Abbott: Who is on first.

Costello: I don't know.

Abbott: He's on third, we're not talking about him.

Costello: Now how did I get to third base?

Abbott: Why you mentioned his name.

Costello: If I mentioned the third baseman's name, who did I say is playing third?

Abbott: No. Who's on first.

Costello: What's on first?

Abbott: What's on second.

Costello: I don't know.

Abbott: He's on third.

Costello: There I go, back to third again!

Costello: Would you just stay on third base and don't go off it.

Abbott: All right, what do you want to know?

Costello: Now who's playing third base?

Abbott: Why do you insist putting Who on third base?

Costello: What am I putting on third.

Abbott: No. What is on second.

Costello: You don't want who on second?

Abbott: Who is on first.

Costello: I don't know.

Abbott & Costello Together: Third base!

Costello: Look, you gotta outfield?

Abbott: Sure.

Costello: The left fielder's name?

Abbott: Why.

Costello: I just thought I'd ask you.

Abbott: Well, I just thought I'd tell ya.

Costello: Then tell me who's playing left field.

Abbott: Who's playing first.

Costello: I'm not... stay out of the infield!  I want to know what's the guy's name in left field?

Abbott: No. What's on second.

Costello: I'm not asking you who's on second.

Abbott: Who's on first!

Costello: I don't know.

Abbott & Costello Together: Third base!

Costello: The left fielder's name?

Abbott: Why.

Costello: Because!

Abbott: Oh, he's centerfield.

Costello: Look, You gotta pitcher on this team?

Abbott: Sure.  Wouldn't this be a fine team without a pitcher?

Costello: The pitcher's name?

Abbott: Tomorrow.

Costello: You don't want to tell me today?

Abbott: I'm telling you now.

Costello: Then go ahead.

Abbott: Tomorrow!

Costello: What time?

Abbott: What time what?

Costello: What time tomorrow are you going to tell me who's pitching?

Abbott: Now listen, Who is not pitching.

Costello: I'll breaking your arm, you say who's on first!  I want to know what's the pitcher's name?

Abbott: What's on second.

Costello: I don't know.

Abbott & Costello together: Third base!

Costello: Got a catcher?

Abbott: Certainly.

Costello: The catcher's name?

Abbott: Today.

Costello: Today and tomorrow's pitching.

Abbott: Now you've got it.

Costello: All we got is a couple of days on the team.

Costello: You know I'm a catcher too.

Abbott: So they tell me.

Costello: I get behind home plate to do some fancy catching.  Tomorrow's pitching on my team and a heavy hitter gets up.  Now the heavy hitter bunts the ball.  When he bunts the ball, me, being a good catcher, I'm gonna throw the guy out at first base.   So I pick up the ball and throw it to who?

Abbott: Now that's the first thing you've said right.

Costello: I don't even know what I'm talking about!

Abbott: That's all you have to do.

Costello: Is throw the ball to first base.

Abbott: Yes!

Costello: Now who's got it?

Abbott: Naturally.

Costello: Look, if I throw the ball to first base, somebody's gotta get it.  Now who has it?

Abbott: Naturally.

Costello: Who?

Abbott: Naturally.

Costello: Naturally?

Abbott: Naturally.

Costello: So I pick up the ball and throw it to Naturally.

Abbott: No you don't, you throw the ball to Who.

Costello: Naturally.

Abbott: That's different.

Costello: That's what I said.

Abbott: You're not saying it...

Costello: I throw the ball to Naturally.

Abbott: You throw the ball to Who.

Costello: Naturally.

Abbott: That's it.

Costello: That's what I said!

Abbott: You ask me.

Costello: I throw the ball to who?

Abbott: Naturally.

Costello: Now you ask me.

Abbott: You throw the ball to Who?

Costello: Naturally.

Abbott: That's it.

Costello: Same as you!  Same as YOU!  I throw the ball to who.  Whoever it is drops the ball and the guy runs to second.   Who picks it up the ball and throws it to What.  What throws it to I Don't Know.  I Don't Know throws it to back to Tomorrow, Triple play.  Another guy gets up and hits a long fly ball to Because.  Why?  I Don't Know!  He's on third and I don't give a damn!

Abbott: What?

Costello: I said I don't give a damn!

Abbott: Oh, that's our shortstop.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First base: Who

Second base: What

Third base: I Don't Know

Pitcher: Tomorrow

Catcher: Today

Left fielder: Why

Center fielder: Because

Right fielder: Unknown*

*the right fielder's name is never given in the routine.  A board game based on the routine called "Who's on first?" gave the right fielder the name of Nobody.  However the word nobody is in the routine.  At one point, Costello says "I'm not changing nobody!"  If Nobody really was the name of the right fielder, I find it hard to believe Abbott would not have made reference to it at that point.  Since he doesn't, I am forced to conclude that Nobody is not the name of the right fielder.   Therefore, I hereby forthwith declare that the right fielder's name is Unknown.

Thanks for that.  I needed a laugh.

I've read that Carrie Fisher was considered for the role of Lois Lane in the '78 Superman film. I wish she had gotten the part; I can't stand Margot Kidder or her homely Keith Richards face.

I respectfully disagree! She looked darn good.

Only a year after Star Wars, audiences might not have been able to imagine Princess Leia playing Lois Lane. They cast an unknown to play Superman for  a reason.

The woman deserves a lot of respect her loyalty to Richard Donner in the Superman II debacle. Being reduced to a cameo in Superman III was the result.

Yeah and while Amy Adams my be my favorite live action Lois Lane I have to say she had great chemistry with Reeves and really sold me on the idea that she was a tough as nails reporter who had a softer side most people didn't see.  She was great.

Actresses should be cast for how well they play the part, not their looks.  To me I think the character of Lois works better when she is not the most stunning woman on the planet, because it shows that what Superman is seeing is her character not her looks.  To me it has always seemed like that would be the most important thing to Superman.

If you want actresses who are cast for nothing more then their looks because you think the only purpose woman serve in the world is to give you something to jerk off to and then it is there job to sit down and shut up until the next time you need sexual pleasure then please stick to watching porn and leave real films alone.

Gravity

When I first heard this movie's hype I figured it would turn out to be either over long and full of it's self or all special effects and no heart like Avatar.

I was pleasantly surprised to find this may be the most intense movie I have ever seen and it was made but someone who knows just how long to make a movie and not spend too long on any one scene.  It also doesn't feature any of the scenes that have become clichés of disaster in space movies since Marooned.  It all takes place from one character's POV and the camera movements are so smooth and perfect that none of the scene seem to end, the whole movie seems to be one long intense scene and yet it never feel like a gimmick it just beautiful like early cinemascope movies.  It feels like classic Hollywood and cutting edge at the same time.  Two actors are able to carry the movie and you really care about them.  Bulluck's character is done perfectly, she isn't untrained or stupid she is just in trouble and needs help some times because this is her first time in space.  I don't want to give away spoilers because one thing I love is that it was not the movie I expected and it surprised me at every turn and I don't want to wreck it for anyone who has not seen it.

I will just say that this is the only movie I have ever wished I had seen in Imax 3D because it seems like it would be even better in that format.  I also love the fact that despite the fact that in the movie space is trying to kill our heroes this movie takes time to show the beuty of space and even the danger scenes make space look amazing.  This movie is brilliant and it may be in my top twenty films of all time.  It is the best film of the best couple of decades.

Oh and is it wrong that despite not being a big Clooney fan thanks to one scene in this movie I now want to see a movie where he plays a cocky space pirate who is always in over his head but gets out of trouble any way?  I want to see him play another character in space like this guy.

15/10!

Okay I am a huge Nolan fan and I defended both The Dark Knight Rises and Man of Steel.  I also believe Person of Interest is one of the best TV shows ever made, so please remember that.

By the way, Nolan is not the reason for Man of Steel's suckage, that's a Zack Snyder film. And Person of Interest is Jonathan Nolan, not Christopher.

Yeah I know but he co-wrote this movie and I think you can tell in places.  I may not like the design of the robot but the way they are treated where people are used to dealing with them but are not sure where they count as people or not without making a huge deal about it seems to continue exploring some of the ideas from Person of Interest.  I like that part of the movie too.

I really liked Man of Steel and I think a lot of the complaints against it seem to come from people who missed the point of the film.  I think the only real problem with it is that like most movies these days about half an hour could have been cut from it and it would have been better paced.

Not much of a fan if you're only seeing it now. You didn't get the full experience unless you caught either a 35mm showing or the 70mm IMAX film performance.

Seeing this film on a full sized IMAX screen in 70mm was breathtaking.

Sorry but at the time due to medical bills and my dad being in and out of work due to the medical issues I didn't have the money to see this in theaters, my family was some times going days between eating just so we didn't end up on the streets.  When I can get the movie a few months later out of the library for free I can't really justify spending $13 to see a movie once, no matter how big a fan I am of the director.  Sorry.

Now I know there have been long movies in the past and I am not in favor of studios getting in the way, it's just it seems like all the movies I see lately run at least two and a half hours and a lot of it feels like padding to me.  I think that may be one reason I am watching more TV these days, say what you will about the 42 minute run time of most shows but it does keep the plots focused and the action scenes don't tend to drag.  I think one problem these days is that a lot of actions scenes just go on and on to the point where I get board, it seems like in the past action scenes were faster paced and got to the point faster.

I know I may be alone in this and that given some of the movies I am a fan if this may seem like a strange stance but I just think we need more 90 minute movies these days.  I feel like if the films just got to the point and didn't leave me looking at my watch and getting too tired to finish them in one sitting then I wouldn't notice half the plot holes I do and be tempted to nitpick them.

Maybe this movie was better in theaters but I feel that with just one more rewrite or two and some editing it could have been a great movie at home as well as at theaters and I wish the last act didn't take that nosedive into being complete sap.
