Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring - Extended Edition - 4K Dremastered
Time

I read the whole thread but no one answered that yet: anyone knows if you can just remux the audio from the 4K releases (Atmos) into those?

Because the audio is justā€¦ better in those releases.

However the image is NOT. This is godly. But yeah, it needs better audio. Some parts in the extended blu-ray are so bad, even in the DTS mix, that they go out of audio bounds (the sound distorts). Listen to Galadriel intro in audio software, youā€™ll see. Bad mix.

Thanks so much for doing this and I will be eagerly waiting more releases.

Time

oh wow what a great timing to hear of this with the reunion and all.

I would love to get a link for this OP if you donā€™t mind, I know you must be swarmed with requests right now but hey this sounds absolutely amazing, thank you so much for taking the time to do this. Hopefully one day Warner release the extended cut in HD but for now this is it.

Thanks a lot in advance!

If you donā€™t feel like learning After Effects someone else (like me perhaps) will do that scene eventually. But you could try anyway, I think I have an idea of how to do it so I can give some tips if youā€™d like.

Tips would be highly appreciated! I want to learn After Effects.

It would be funny if I finished Firestorm and the credits went:

Not a big deal. Itā€™s pretty much what happened with Hal9000ā€™s TFA Restructured and weā€™re all very grateful for the work everyone put in it!

Sadly I have to partially agree here.

The movie completely forgets about its main protagonist in the climax. But in a way, it was to make room for Luke and Kylo to finish their arcs, who are both strongly related to Rey in terms of character development.

Watch the ā€œLessons from a Screenplayā€ video on hollywood structure ā€“ basically, The Last Jedi is a 4-Act movie in a world where 98% of blockbusters are 3-Act or 5-Act movies (3-act and 5-act is essentially the same thing). Thatā€™s why it feels weird. Reyā€™s arc happens in the 1st 3 acts of the movie, while the 4 act is there to conclude the other charactersā€™ arcs.

Rey is a bit like a spectator in this story, but she still has an arc, and they have interesting places to go forward with her story in IX, which is what matters.

In fact, if Reyā€™s so unimportantā€¦ why does everyone agree on here that her scenes with Kylo are the heart of the movie and need to stay in? Sheā€™s vital to the story.

On the subject of there being many differing edit ideas that donā€™t converge ā€“

Well, thatā€™s the thing with character-driven movies (TLJ) instead of plot-driven ones (TFA)

Itā€™s much harder to pinpoint exactly whatā€™s ā€œimportantā€ to the story becauseā€¦ the story is driven by the characters going through an evolution. Not much has changed after TLJ really, which is why so many people disliked it. It felt like a TV Series episode instead of a saga movie (they did hire a TV director to do it)

So what to cut, what stays? Gotta be careful with that because every characterā€™s going through an arc in TLJ, and cutting parts can mess up their arcs. And without meaningful character arcs, this movie is mostly empty because the plot is sooooo thin, itā€™s barely existant in fact! But at the same time, we have to cut stuff because itā€™s bloated, so really it becomes a game of who to prioritize?

I think most people here can agree on which characters need to be prioritized and which can have their arcs, letā€™s say, ā€œminimizedā€.

[Handman] You can cut pretty much all but one scene from Canto Bight, where DJā€™s character is first introduced.

Or you just have them leave for Canto Bight, and we see them next on the way back already with the codebreaker when Poe calls. No need to see anything of Canto Bight.

Is that what you guys are planning to do? Cut Canto Bight but keep the codebreaker? Are you going to have the scene where DJ is telling Finn about arms dealers or will you cut right to Snokeā€™s Star Destroyer?

I was thinking about keeping the initial visit to Canto Bight where they look around a bit, they see the real codebreaker, and then get arrested. No preaching about animal cruelty and bad rich people. Iā€™m debating whether or not to cut the scene after DJ picks the lock and then they go right to the escape ship.

Thatā€™s a good proposition. Keeps Canto Bight, but to a strict minimum.

Suggestion: when they escape prison, cut straight to DJā€™s ship. No chase, no shenenigans.

The quote would be too big but I agree with you DominicCobb

Now that you say it, the Rey-Luke scene is about understanding what the Force is, and with that concept in mind, the tickling is important to show that itā€™s not just about, like you said, extending your hand and there! Force!

Itā€™s about whatā€™s inside.

Anyway, I think Iā€™m repeating myself a bit here but I think that cutting ANY scene, or part of a scene, involving Rey, Luke, and Kylo should be done with great care. Itā€™s the heart of the movie.

Not to say nothing can be cut, but think long and hard about it before cutting.

Personally I think I wouldnā€™t cut anything from them, but Iā€™d need to watch it again to be sure. Basically all the movie I was sitting thinking ā€œI wanna see REY, LUKE, and KYLO (and Snoke) stop showing me crap that I donā€™t care about!ā€

It doesnā€™t help that the rest of the movie not only feels like filler, but is actually filler since nothing comes of it in terms of plot. (BUT there is character development, which may or may not be relevant once IX rolls out)

Depends what JJ does.

That is also why I think that a final cut of TFA and TLJ cannot be truly achieved before IX comes out. Before we know what ultimately matters and what doesnā€™t.

The problem with that is that every faneditor will remove different jokes.

Less is more in this case. Cut only the jokes you are absolutely certain that are ruining the flow of the story at that point.

The your mom joke comes to mind here, this scene is supposed to be TENSE, but itā€¦ isnā€™t, mostly because of that terrible joke. It even manages to lessen the stakes of Roseā€™s sisterā€™s sacrifice right after.

But you know, fanediting a movie is about making it what you believe it should be like, so yeahā€¦ ultimately, the choice is everyoneā€™s šŸ˜ƒ

Btw, hereā€™s something I said on fanedit.org but I think is worth mentionning here also:

Why is everyone feeling the need to open the Rey+Luke sequence exactly where TFA left off?

We donā€™t need to see Luke toss the saber.

We donā€™t even need to see the immediate results of Rey meeting Luke in TFA.

The first time we see Rey and Luke since the end of TFA can beā€¦ well any scene really. It can be inside the falcon. It can be at the hut. It can be anywhere. Weā€™re not forced to show what happened when Rey gave Luke the lightsaber, it can definitely happen offscreen.

Rey gives Luke his saber, we already know that from watching TFA. Now whatā€™s next? We can open anytime we want. If the Luke lightsaber toss bothers youā€¦ donā€™t show it! And donā€™t even show any shot from that scene, period! Just Skip it!

Leia spacewalk untouched? : (

Not so much the actual sequence but the editing is horrendous.

What about the editing? I donā€™t have any ideas about changing it but if anyone comes up with something I would try.

When Leia is in space we cut to some First Order things for wayyyyy too long before it comes back to her doing the spacewalk.

At the very least Iā€™d re-arrange the scenes for this to be more smooth.

(Personally Iā€™d remove the spacewalk entirely but yeahā€¦) šŸ˜›
