So any suggestions on the latest sample? need some help.

I like what I see...I say its beautiful, time to burn! :)

But judging by the comments I'm not the only one who like it.

I played your latest sample on the big screen and my wife and kids both said that its the best sample yet. yes, they've seen the previous two samples.

Just got done watching your latest sample...

What can I say but I want it and I need it. :)  You seem to have kept most if not all of the grain and/or detail. People aren't plastic looking. Case in point, Uncle owen's face still has stubble and folds in his skin. Before you couldn't see that. But at the same time Tatooine's sky looks better as well.

And the color is very nice as well. People's complexions and overall color just looks nice to me. Sorry I am not technically trained to judge but to me it looks very good.

This is exciting work D_J. You should be proud of what you've been able to accomplish with George's scraps. very nice.

Sorry D_J for being somewhat of a spaz during the last 24 hours but crap dude, look at how good your 720p GOUT looks like. Its hard not to be passionate about that.

I got to relax and know that its in good hands. But let me cast my vote one more time for the grain that's there to be left in...it looks so good on my big screen.

This is a sample I whipped up to show you the problems I am having, look at where the sky meets the ground, watch when Luke runs over to Beru, look over Owens shoulder, and when Owen calls Luke over with him and 3PO, this is a very small clip with no audio.

I still have other setting to try but this is my problem.

Whoa!  I see it plain as day even on my computer monitor.  In the first shot that shows the entire sky, blocks are dancing around like a "spectrum analyzer".  When Luke is running to Beru it kind of looks like he's in a sandstorm, and when he's looking down speaking to her it looks like plagues of locusts are flying around, but seem to fly up and out of the shot.  Very weird.  I wish I knew what to tell you :-(  Adywan's explanation of why the grain is so heavy in these shots makes perfect sense, but what I'm seeing is definitely not normal film grain, or even "heavy" film grain. I would think that it is possible that the heavy handed noise reduction originally used in the GOUT mastering made the "heavy" grain look blocky and upsampling to a higher resolution only makes it more apparent.  But it also looks like something going crazy during the encoding.

I don't see that at all. Either on my 24" wide screen monitor or my 58" tv.

It is hard to explain, it is not like it is to grainy, you need to look at the samples on a big screen HDTV, it's like it all breaks apart, and the smoke looks like shit, like I said it is hard to explain, it just looks like pure shit, to me anyways.

The very strange thing though, I do not see any of this on the lossless avi file, it is only after encoding and making a sample Blu file and I watch on my HDTV, on the PC it looks fine, totally stumped.

But as you said, blinking Stormtroopers I can easily deal with, because at least they still look good, the sky, smoke, outlines of buildings, SHIT.

You mean it looks blocky or something? Sorry D_J but I just dont see what you're seeing on my big samsung.

maybe its just different sets and different players that's part of the reason it looks different to each of us.

It sounds like your TV has an extremely detailed picture to it. My Samsung is a DLP....are you watching on a plasma or LCD? maybe the pixel detail is much more pronounced on your set so you're seeing things I just cant see?

Dark_Jedi,

When I look at the 720p sample the only blemish I can spot is when C3PO and R2D2 have their close up shot on the ship you can see the jaggies really bad on both droids... I don't know if it was there all the time or if its something that has been introduced by whatever filters or processes that you are doing to the film but if there is anyway you could improve that shot that would be great...

I think it is there all the time, even on the V3 and the retail GOUT, some of those flaws are going to carry over no matter what is done, unless taking the scene from something else, look at the Stormtroopers bringing Leia to see Vader, they look like they are blinking LOL, but that is a GOUT flaw, just like the 4 eye Stormtrooper, some flaws are just going to have to stay.

Ah that's cool...never mind then. The video quality is still beyond what any of us thought would be possible....it looks amazing.

Dark Jedi has requested that I share my thoughts on sets he sent me.

GOUT V3

97 Se v2

JSC Laserdisc rip

ESB IE

All were very nice in their own respective ways. V3 is the best I have ever seen the GOUT look. The 97 SE looks great as well, my VHS tapes of the SE never looked that good even when new.

I could go on but the one thing I get now that I have everything Dark Jedi was working on is the the amount of time and energy is must have taken to complete of all these sets...

And now that I see the 720p rips of the GOUT, which makes the V3 dvd look like crap....here's hoping Dark Jedi doesn't stop until that project is done as well...:)

See you all in 7-8 months!

Hey we can hope right? If only.

Here's hoping that Adywan's health is good, taking care of your parents, doing edits, plus everything else, I can see the stress that must take its tole.

Take it easy from time to time Adywan. We need you. You are our last hope.
