I'm not saying it is, im just saying that if that truely is the plot then i dont have high hopes.

those old 40's war propoganda comics arent relavent to the topic at hand (imho). Something like that would never be published today as its a different time, but its still likely that a comic with superman holding the american flag on the cover would be.

but im not arguing either way, i just wanted to post these pics

I agree except the last part. Topher Grace is playing Eddie Brock. Im sure Venom will be mostly CGI, definatly the fights, so dont have to worry about any actor performance there, just need to worry about the special effects guy. (but read my comments in the new spidey 3 thread to see my full feelings on the plot)

also, not to be nit picking, but its Daylight Saving Time, no s at the end of Saving. I only mention this because I recently read it while looking up info on the change in 2007 (they expand it by a month or something, its part of a enviornmental conservation bill) on the plus side though, apparently its part of a study (think it ends in 2015) where they will determine if it actually does anything and if not its use might get stopped. So it really doesnt save anything, it just shifts the daylight.

Whats worse is not all of the US uses it (Arizona and parts of Indiana (i think indiana) dont use it). Furthermore, it was supposedly (from what ive heard) put in for farmers, but they dont use it as it f's with the animals.

guess a 2 second search to bring up this thread spider-man 3 would have been too much work.

Anyway, onto topic. Just read the plotsummary...I dunno about that. while elements of it are true to the comic for the most part its not. I realize that the movies so far havent been true, but if their gonna introduce Gwen Stacey they should have done so before MJ unless they are gonna make her a minor role and ultimatly not get in between Peter and MJ. There's way too much history between Peter and Gwen and character development between the two that has been tossed aside that to introduce her now doesnt do her character justice.

fans of the movie aren't gonna like her because they want Peter and MJ to be together. Comic book spidey fans will go either way since Gwen was Peters first love, but he ended up with MJ so thats gonna loose some people. They're gonna kill someone close to him. ok 3 choices here. Aunt May (seriously doubt it), Harry (maybe), one of his love interests (MJ or Gwen, could go either way, but above comments make it hard to say. if they go with MJ it will piss of lots of people and would be week to have Parker fall for Gwen that quickly, if they kill off Gwen its not gonna have an impact unless Peter falls for her, same dilema as before the other senerio)

If they wanted Gwen in they should have a) used her first b) introduced her earlier

Im starting to worry about this movie and dont know how good it will be, im seriously starting to doubt it will live up to 1 or 2 because there is just too much going on...especially since (unless arangements have been made) last i heard everyone only signed on for 3 movies so they have to wrap this up in this movie. Either way, there is way too much going on in this movie and they are ignoring way to many plot points that have already been introduced.

After starting to actually read the comics and learn the real story (besides some biases from what i thought i knew) they are at least 10 times better than the movies. the emotion and depth to the characters, especially Peter and the stuff he has to deal with living with a secret identity is just make it such a great read.

Of course there is a Deluxe Ultimate Collector's Special Edition but you have to pay $5-10 more for that.

THE MOVIE STUDIOS ARE DOING THAT ON PUPOSE. THEY'RE DOING A STUDY TO SEE WHAT THE CUNSUMER WANTS. DO WE WANT A BARE BONES DISC OR DO WE WANT SPECIAL FEATURES WITH OUR MOVIES ??? I SHOULD KNOW AS I WORK IN THE BUSINESS.

Pretty shitty study if you ask me. Most people dont realize that there are two versions of the DVD so they just grab whats on the shelf. Im sure a lot of people dont even make sure the disc is widescreen before they buy it. When I got Batman Begins I had to go to 4 or 5 stores to find one that was carrying the 2 disk set with the comic, and this was only a week or two after its release. The guy at best buy even told me that it was discontinued when i asked, I thanked him, walked out, and proceeded to cal him a moron to my brother because the movie was only out for a week and I seriously doubt the studio would discontinue it that soon, as even if they did there would still be shipments on the way or they would have had to discontinue it after the first shipment.

so yeah, its not gonna give them accurate results if a) people dont know what they are buyin (or not buying) and b) stores dont carry both versions so people dont have a choice.

THE FAN EDIT CONTEST HAS A WINNER !!! REVIEWS IN OFF TOPIC FORUM
Time
Not trying to throw gas on the fire or anything like that, but the first contest is over. A winner was announced, the contest has ended, thats that.

I didn't know it was a typical part of a contest for the judges to post their detailed score cards. I thought that stuff is typically not disclosed. do the voters for the oscars and other movie awards tell the world how they vote? nope, in fact arent the identities of the voters not even publicly known? You just find out the winner, individual judges dont need to give the details behind their votes. If they want to share it in a contest like this i guess its fine because obviously the critisism can be used to better the fan edits in the future so its more of a review. But as was shown here, when individual score cards from judges are posted you're only gonna get hard feelings by someone.

So to repeat, the first contest has been finished. Some people brought up complaints, nothing can be done about those for the first contest so things are being discussed to address them in the second contest because all we can do is move forward and learn from our mistakes.

I think DAYV did a pretty good job with the contest when obviously there were issues that came up throughout that made things tough, and I think he realizes this (probably more so than those that werent involved directly) and is obviously working to smoothing things out for the next contest.

best way to burn DVD's with DVD-Rom folder
Time
Nero Express does not allow you to put any folders accept the video_TS and Audio_TS folders on the dvd. get a license for the non express version (i cant remember what they call it right now, i think just Nero Burning Rom) and you will be able to just drop DVD-ROM, Contents, Jacket_P or any other folder your little heart desires onto the disc.

or do what bob23 said to make an image, nero express will burn an image with a DVD-ROM folder no problem. So if you can find a free ware image creator that would be cheaper than buying a full nero license. (i'm not familar with image tool classic so dont know if that is free or not)

THE FAN EDIT CONTEST HAS A WINNER !!! REVIEWS IN OFF TOPIC FORUM
Time
If i could make a few suggestions for the way the contest runs. The powers that be can either take it or leave it.

1) Limit the number of entries per contestant. With enough people i would say one entry per person, as it makes them choose what they think is their strongest edit, and they could later submit another one into a later contest. Depending on participation though it may be wise to allow 2 or 3 per contestant, but i definatly think there should be a max number of entries. It would also make it easier on the judges as they will have less films to judge

2) rework score cards. I know this is being done, but to put in my 2 cents, i think each category should be broken down. have a score for audio but break it down into (suggestions only, not meant to be an exhaustive list) quality, originality (stuff like hearsy mix would get points here), bonus tracks (other language tracks, or 2.0 and 5.1 get boosts here. Additionaly stuff like subtitles would boost the points (and then hearing impaired subs would get even more), this might get put in audio or have its own score. Some of these can even be standard points. ie, 5 points for each track (though they get points added (or even deducted) for quality (or lack thereof)) so just cramming 20 audio tracks on wouldnt really help. similar categories for video, menus, extras.

3) break prizes into categories. I realize this would be hard on the wallet of the finacer, but perhaps people could donate prizes/money for prizes as 'sponsers' to help with the cost. that way you would have best audio winner, a best picture quality winner, a best extras, best menu, most inovative edit, best overal (plus whatever else you can think of)

4) I agree that keeping the pictures seperate would be easier on the contestants because its not fair to have them submit full cases. While it would be nice to have it presented as a 'retail dvd' and even maybe give an award for best presentation its very cost prohibative as mentioned. for instance printable dvd (which not everyone has access to a printer) ~30 cents, dvd case ~1 dollar, artwork ~1 ( i guess, this is dependant on quality produced. if you want nicer quality to make it look better since thats a judging aspect an inkjet wont be as nice. not everyone has access to a color laser printer so those that do would have an advantage. even getting it done up at kinkos, staples, or office depot isnt as nice as a color laser and would prob be more than $1 per cover) Not to mention the time to put this all together. plus postage (probably at least a dollar within the US as a single dvd with no case is about 63 cents. so we are looking at about $3-4 per disc (at least, doesnt include ink if self printed) multiplied by 7 judges is almost $30 to enter a contest, and thats just if you live in the US and all the judges are in the US.

5) more specific submission rules. if pictures (disc/case art) are allowed to be submitted via email maybe set up a gmail account for that. Email must come from the submitter of the dvd the artwork is for, with the title of the edit as the subject (or Fan Edit Contest: 'Edit Title'). all judges could than access this email and get the pictures (or set up rules to auto forward it to them). Have discs need to be postmarked by X date, and discs must be labeled (sharpie with title and editor (name/email) on disc, or 'offical' disc art) possibly also include an index card with Editor name/email and edit title with the disc.

think that covers my suggestions for making it run smoother. Keep in mind, these are just my suggestions to help with the smoothness of the contest and presented only with the intention of helping out the contest.

-Darth Simon

P.S. I also like the idea of a fan's choice category. maybe set up a poll after the submission deadline with hidden results (i think that can be done here) were people can vote for their favorite out of all the entries.

Certain parts of the PT are just cringeworthy, how did this happen?
Time
my numbers were gotten from their actual age based on the release of the movie. 1999-1981 = 18, I then said probably a year younger realizing that the movie would have been filmed at least a year before...it was apparenlty 2, i made a mistake, sorry.

as far as the ages of the characters, i couldnt tell where i got those, but i know thats what i heard from various places (possibly interviews) when the movies came out. either way, the actors age isnt the characters age, not saying it excusses the glaring difference in looks, just saying

Really? I know for a fact that there was only one per case. I guess the store I was at just had bad luck cause we got very few of those cases. The other thing was we had a few collectors working there, one guy on the crew the unloaded trucks, so a lot of the figures never actually hit the shelfs, at least not at the first shipment. I got mine cause one of my friends put one aside. I was supposed to trade with him for a death star trooper but we never were able to make the trade, i missed that one for some reason, think it was similar to the vader situation. Finally got one which completed my pre episode 2 collection (got the first wave of those figures but thats basically when i stopped, did wanna get just the first wave of episode 3 though, never did)

See if you can find all the references in this picture
Time
like theres a ton, i def saw some of the ones DAYV mentioned after i posted mine and was looking at it more. some are obvious, some are easy to realize but are so small and mixed in with so much other stuff you miss them.

few others, Metroid, Tetris, Worms, Back To The Future (2), Indiana Jones (Raiders), Star Trek, Star Gate, Transformers (i think it was unicron), Think one set of 'aliens' were from space invaders, Batman, Simpsons, MC Donalds, Donkey Kong Jr, Dr Mario, Lemmings, GhostBusters (2), Toe Jam & Earl

that picture is ginormous. it would take forever to spot all the references.

a few i did see while scrolling through it briefly

Dragon Ball
Spaceballs
MegaMan
Mario Brothers
Mike Tyson's Punch Out
Final Fantasy
Superman
Mary Poppins
Power Rangers
Sonic
Pikachu
Taun Tauns
I recognize that 'huge' diomond from something just cant remember what

Are we supposed to say the specific reference, or just what references exists. Cause ive seen at least 2 from Dragon Ball, and 2 from Final Fantasy, and multiple from Mario

MJPEG to avi

I realize that avi is just a container but...

I took some video with my digital camera and want to reduce the size since its fairly huge for such a short clip, but I cant seem to do anything with it (as far as reencoding it) with virtualdub. The file has an avi extension but when i load it into gspot it tells me its codec is mjpeg. I want to convert this into an xvid or some other codec so that i can reduce the file size.

thanks

Dr M, When i first read your post regarding the olives, i actually had to go back and read it again, because i had thought that your intention was to imply that he eats the last olive, realizes he has no more olives, shakes his glass and then has more olives, kind of a showing off his power in the matrix that he can 'get more olives' whenever he wants.

Wuher i think his name is, something like that.

Ill see if i can find a picture. If not ill dig mine out next time im at the parents and take a picture of it. it was a fan club exclusive (well had to be ordered through the fan club store anyway)

*edit* found one, also, i believe it was a fan club exclusive, while searching saw a post on tf.net that said they found one in the store and something about it being a repack. though im 99.9% sure that when it was first released it was fan club and thats where i got mine. though i may have got it a TRU since i was working there and the only figure i had a hard time finding was Vader with removable helmet (one per box, i think the store got like 5 in total while i was there) and the death star trooper.

anyway, heres the pic

I know English and thats about it, unless ebonics counts I did take 3 years of Spanish in High School (or was it 4, either way i dont remember any of it) and 1 semester of German in college. I just dont have a very good ear for language and cant seem to learn others.

Funny thing is, i watched Leon: The Professional over the weekend so when i saw this thread today it reminded me of how looking at the 'Talent Files' it said that Natalie Portman speaks fluent Hebrew, Japanese and one other, i think it was French but im not sure (i assume those were in addition to English ). Ill have to look at the dvd again to see.

Not that it makes it any better (actually makes it worse) but Portman was 18 in TPM and Lloyd was 10 (well probably 17 and 9 during filming)

but the character of Anakin was supposed to be like 12 and Padme was supposed to be like 14 i think (maybe 16)

either way, it was bad, as while Natalie did look younger (Lloyd didnt look older) it wasnt young enough to make them look close in age. I think a lot of that had to do with maturity of the character (and the actual actor)

I agree that they should have used the same actor for all three or had a different actor for Padme in TPM
