Found a site that sells the Despecialized Trilogy on the site and eBay. They brag about being “the real deal” too.

Link to website removed by moderator - let’s not give them the publicity they wish for.

They’re getting pretty ballsy now. Selling from their own dedicated website claiming to be some sort of official retailer? I guess they win though because I have no idea how to fight that.

Add other force ghosts to the Luke/Leia shot like Anakin and Obi Wan.

With the exception of Ben, I don’t really get this suggestion. Anakin, Yoda and Obi-Wan have no meaning or significance to Rey. They did to Luke, but we already got that scene at the end of Return of the Jedi.

What I think a lot of fans don’t want to accept (and to be honest, I don’t think Abrams and Terrio wanted to accept this either) is that the OT characters are not the main characters of these new movies. The protagonists are the new characters: Rey, Ben, Finn, Poe, and Rose. Any OT or PT characters should be there to support their character development, not to steal the spotlight.

Obi Wan has significance to Rey. Anakin has significance to Ben Solo, who would be there in this version. The thought of ending the “Skywalker Saga” without at least Anakin having some importance seems off to me.

The only think I really want to do in an edit (and I guess I’ll find out if it’s even possible) is have Ben survive (cut the kiss shot before he collapses). And have him be with Rey on Tatooine at the end (comp him in somehow, provided there’s suitable footage). Add other force ghosts to the Luke/Leia shot like Anakin and Obi Wan.

4K restoration on Star Wars

I am also part of the generation where the ‘97 SE was “my Star Wars”. People will argue forever and ever which is the “right” version and which is better and more enjoyable/immersive to watch. That’s really not the point though.

When I watch Blade Runner, 95% of the time I watch “the final cut” cuz I think it’s the best version. But if I didn’t have access to the original theatrical cut? You bet your ass I’d be pissed. I hardly ever watch it, but I’m glad to have the option to watch any version I so choose, because sometimes it’s interesting and fun to see it the way it was originally seen, even if you don’t necessarily PREFER it that way.

The issue has never been with George altering his movies. Directors do that all the time. The issue has always been about having the OPTION to watch the originals. Improve them all you want in any way you want, but don’t tell people the original version doesn’t exist anymore. Don’t take the movie they fell in love with away from them just because YOU aren’t wholly satisfied with it. It’s incredibly selfish.

The Prequel Trilogy Revised - concept trailers released (WIP)

The main problem I have with getting rid of Midichlorians is that Palpatine mentioned them in the middle of a long shot when he was telling Anakin about the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise. How is it even possible to seamlessly edit out “Midichlorians” from this long shot that slowly zooms in?

I did a cut a while back and made it work decently as “he could use the force to create life”. It was a little jarring but worked okay. Wish I still had the clip.

You’re really misunderstanding me Broom Kid. I was never insinuating that Fox had a say in what version was released. Only that they, being the distributors, would get a large percentage of any profits made from ANY home video release.

A high quality re-release of the OUT would show a spike in purchases from collectors and general public who would not otherwise buy another release of these films.

Disney’s unwillingness to release them I am sure was at least in part due to sharing profits. Note how the first thing they did with Star Wars upon their acquisition of Fox was put out new fancy Blu-Rays of the films under Walt Disney Home Video.

I’m not saying they’re definitely planning a release now, but if they wanted to at all, now is the opportune time to consider it, as they’d get all profits from said release.

The acquisition of Fox absolutely makes a difference. It wasn’t released before because Lucas was in charge and didn’t want to.

Disney has no such creative qualms. They care primarily about the bottom line.

Releasing any restoration would be an enormous money maker, and Fox owning distribution rights means that Disney would only get a small percentage of those potential profits.

Fox no longer being an issue means that Disney can take full advantage of the guaranteed money without having to share profits. There is MUCH more incentive to do so with the Fox acquisition.

It wasn’t that Fox didn’t want to release it and that was stopping Disney. It’s that Disney didn’t want another company taking so much potential profit.

Plus it makes Luke’s rejoining the rebels during the briefing difficult to handle.

And I say that as a proponent of the idea.

The other problem is, you can’t really break up the stuff on Dagobah. It’s really just two scenes, talking with Yoda and then talking with Ben. But it doesn’t make sense to cut away after Yoda’s death because if you want to cut back later to the scene with Ben, you’d end up wondering “well what has Luke being doing hanging out at this dead guy’s house?”

I’ve seen the idea knocked around to somehow do a background replacement and make the Obi-Wan scene take place on Tatooine/in Obi-Wan’s hut, but that seems…difficult to pull off at best.

Or you could just cut the entire Obi-Wan scene and not lose too much, perhaps.

You could always move the Ben scene to Endor right before Luke turns himself in. It wouldn’t take nearly as much work to make dagobah look like Endor.

Hello. Is this tool compatible with MacOS? The only laptop I have at the moment is a MacBook Air and I am wanting to make an Ultimate Edition of the Star Wars saga with this tool, complete with some scenes that were cut from each film. Thank you.

No, sadly it is only compatible with Windows at this time.

I use it on my Mac.

Although with OS Catalina, not sure if its compatible anymore?

You can use it (and any windows program) on lan using a program called Wine.

Will a 1080p version of the trilogy get a release too?

No. RotJ:R and ANH:R HD are the last two projects Adywan will be working on, and both of them will be released in 720p and NOT 1080p.

Oh. Shame. I also would’ve loved to see his vision of the Prequels. It sounded really ambitious and different.

Yeah. I wish Ady would post an updated detailed breakdown of what he was planning on doing with the prequels, just to give other editors ideas.

#2 and #4 are my biggest obstacles.

I still haven’t seen these (beautiful) restorations/preservations yet.
I will not pay good money for a film burnt to a blank BD, as the discs don’t last as long as the official product.
I can wait - however long it takes - Mr. Lucas is an old man…

Torrenting is pretty easy. You can download uTorrent and can find most projects from here on most public torrent sites.

Is there really a debate about fighters having hyperdrive?!

We see – very much canon and very, very plainly – a bunch of fighters jumping into hyperspace in ROTJ when they leave Sullust and coming out again at Endor to attack the Death Star. X-wings, A-wings, Y-wings, the whole lot I think…

There is NO question they all have hyperdrive.

That’s very much the point I think. Rotj is the first time we see this happen, and it seems to go against what is said by Ben in anh. “A fighter that size couldn’t make it this deep into space on its own.”

I don’t personally have a problem with it, but I get where people are coming from.
