Preserving DTS LaserDisc tracks, specifically Jurassic Park
Time

PCM, DTS, and AC3 tracks on Laserdiscs are all digital signals, modulated into an analog one (or something like that). Most LD players require an external demodulator to produce a standard digital signal which can then be fed to a decoder - or the SPDIF-in of a computer.

There are pitfalls though - I've never been able to get low enough access to the audio hardware to record a perfect digital rip on Windows 7, for example, and even on XP you may have a soundcard which ruins the data before you can get to it. Then there are random dropouts which might mean it takes 2 or 3 tries to get a complete rip.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

Star Trek VI is a 1080i-to-1080p conversion for crying out loud!

There's really only a semantic difference between the two when you're talking about film transfers - it's not like 1080i has half the resolution of 1080p in this case.

Since they only released 2, 4, 6 and 8 individually and never got around to the other six movies

Whatchoo talkin' bout? I can see 1, 3, 5, 7 all on Amazon.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

To make an avisynth script with the video, simply type this in notepad and save as ".avs" file extension, in the same folder where the video file is.
DirectShowSource("SWharmy.mkv")

Just an example, using the filename it had before you remuxed it. :)

You should also include, if the mkv was encoded correctly,

converttorgb24(matrix="rec709")

but without knowing what's been done previously that might throw it all off again.

With regard to lossless, I used the UT codec on the BD, and it only doubled in size - that wasn't RGB though, and it took careful examination of the options to make sure it was truly lossless (some codecs/settings will resample chroma in different ways, and you have to use the Fast Recompress option in Virtualdub).

Color correcting the 2011 OT Blu Rays (* unfinished project *)

And Chewtobacca: On avisynth wiki it says:

The second one (Rec.709) should be used when your source is DVD or HDTV:

ConvertToRGB(clip, matrix="rec709")

So it's not about output but input it seems.

It should technically be on both. Whatever you play the final output on should be expecting something that's been encoded with the rec709 matrix. The effect of using the wrong matrix is a slight remixing of RGB channels, which you may find gives a result more to your liking anyway.

Info: Digging up those blacks - using the STAR WARS Blu-ray for preservations
Time

The worst thing is that there is no selective color plugin for Avisynth, at least that I could find with a lot of googling.

*ahem* ;)

A selective colour filter for Avisynth

Any questions will have to be directed to the author, but by a strange coincidence he and I have never been seen in the same room at the same time...

(it doesn't do "Black", but I - I mean he - might get around to that sometime)

I think it's quite clear that they removed the wall-lights to better match the set that was used for the pickups at the end of the shoot. All close-ups of Greedo except this one was pickups with a different set and a different set of Greedo-fingers compared to the Greedo we see in the original shoot with Ford in the wide-shots.

When all they had to do was replace it with a single frame of the real Greedo. They really know how to make things difficult for themselves...

As for conversion to 48 khz, if this is not done well, much of the advantage of using digital audio will be negated. While resampling can never retain the same quality level as the original file, the degree of degradation can be vastly reduced with a high quality algorithm. The iZotope processor (which I have) may well be one of the best ever made. Very few others can come close—even the ProTools resampler isn't quite as good as that.

Are you talking about plain resampling, or more of a "stretch and pitch" process? Plain resampling from 44.1 to 48 with even a naive algorithm is going to make no audible difference, surely? iZotope and the like are for mangling pitch or duration without affecting the other - what kind of difference in running times are we talking about?

If you could use Ian McDiarmid
Saying Luke Skywalker to put in the hologram seen

No thank you. I much prefer the original dialogue.

That is the original dialogue. The one word missing from Ian McDiarmid's performance that was present in Clive Revill's is "Luke".
