The XØ Project Official T-shirt Design Contest - And the winner is...
Time
This was my entry. Concept behind it was rearranged/modified characters from the imperial aurabesh language/alphabet. Its a bit wacky and illegible for it's purpose. Wanted to spend more time on it doing some posh lighting shadow effects and some tweaking, but haven't had enough free time to do so.
Really like the other ideas posted especially coov's.

<strong>The Moth3r PAL DVD Set Info and Feedback Thread</strong> (Released)
Time
Just finished downloading EpIV this afternoon, just need ROTJ to complete the set.

I may have a noticed a glitch, in the scene when vader uses force choke on that Admiral. There is a sudden slight colour shift. An increase of red seemingly.
It may just be my equipment though, dodgy download etc. happens at 0:36:27, very slight and it doesn't bother me but i thought it was worth mentioning.
Does anyone else get this?

The only other transfer's i have are the dr gonzo's. I thought they were pretty good but in comparison the sharpness and general picture quality of the moth3r's are far superior.
A damn fine job, mate - you should be very proud!

Thats looks quite a huge difference seeing it as a small screen capture.
The details on the bottom of the star destroyer and death star are more defined and endor looks crisper.
How bad is the noise, distortion etc. compared to thx sets, from the point of view of how much more extra work it entails?
I guess you almost have to similate thx mastering with the software you have.
How advanced was the thx mastering back then ?
I suppose by today's digital standards it's quite primitive compared to some of the software available to people today.

First and foremost, the project aims to be an archive preservation of the Original Star Wars Trilogy laserdiscs in the best quality possible. We are culling video from a number of different sets. These include, but are not limited to, the US Definitive Collection set, the US "Faces" set, and their Japanese equivalents.

Every single frame will be looked at and corrected. Fixes will be limited to dirt and film damage removal, color correction, and stabilization. Wherever possible we will be using the actual celluloid film for reference.

Glitches including matte lines, saber colors, and frame jumps will not be fixed in the initial version. A possible second version could include fixes to matte lines and garbage mattes, but keep the rest of the "glitches" intact.

The finished archive will form a perfect base for any future restoration project or fan edit we might do afterward.

It's in the very first post dude.
I think a version like you speak of would be cool and you can pretty much guarantee someone will do a version like that using the xo as their source.

Info Wanted: Just wondering... re acquiring a digital copy of something I already own?
Time
I've got the dr. gonzo's and reckon they are damn good with the menu's and extra's.
Just finished downloading Moth3r's Pal Transfer of Empire and it's f'king awesome!
I'm from the UK so Pal is my native colour system so I guess that gives it an edge in compatibility/quality in regards to playback equipment.

I own copies of 80's VHS, 1997 special edition VHS and the 2004 DVD's. This probably isn't the right attitude to have, but i feel i've thrown enough money at lucas and his subordinates for them to be happy. If the original versions are not going to be made available commercially in digital format i haven't got a problem owning bootlegs.
Most of, if not all of the transfers were created by fans for fans, and have been non-profit making. The projects are not out there to screw Lucas but preserve a heritage which we shouldn't be denied of.
The law is the law though ofcourse so it's your discretion.

Photoshop 7/CS is by far the best for image editing, enhancement nothing comes close IMO.
For altering logo's, symbols black and white stuff etc. Illustrator
For designing layout's and general graphic design i reckon the best is Quark Express. I used to use corel draw and adobe pagemaker but i found quark more to my liking.
If you have a graphics tablet, i recommend getting corel painter for creating more artistic images. Interface is very similar to photoshop but it has 10 times the amount of brush effects. A very cool program if you use it the right way.

I suppose the paper close to what they use is lightweight semi-glossy or called lightweight satin finish. I'm afraid i don't know the exact gsm you'd want considering medium weight is about 45-50 gsm i guess form about 25 gsm upwards would be a similar weight to what the officials use. Don't know where you can buy it, had it at art college in the printing studio along with a vast collection of other type's. Might be worth asking someone in a printing shop if you're really that bothered about it.

If you want a cheap easy option that will give a good print and look professional try kodak everday picture paper or something similar. I personally use a brand Jet-tec supersharp matte paper for my cover's. Cheap high quality and does the job well, but that's my preference.

I've used high quality ultra sharp matte paper before which gave me good results. The print is really sharp and has more depth to the colours than heavy gloss photo paper. I use a Epson 680 which is quite old now but produces extremely good high res prints even by todays standards.
I haven't really experimented with that many different kinds of paper i just used what i had lying around.
The paper on the official ones is a lightweight glossy type paper, dunno it's specific name or if you could actually buy this paper but i doubt you'd get the same kind of finish using a standard 3 colour inkjet printer. The silver colours almost look metallic which you'd never get on inkjet.

Wow, there's quite a substancial difference in that clip than i would have thought. The colours and rock detail are loads better.

If you guys are short of funds you should get cracking with this t-shirt design competiton. I already sketched a few ideas out and have started designing some dvd covers. Probably jumping the gun a bit but i've got plenty of free time at the moment.

How do these editions compare? They are US NTSC and don't seem to have thx logo's.

Hi,
Wondered what the progress was on the t-shirts?
I'm not sure how you were thinking of pricing them but you should price them so most of the profits made from them would go towards funding the project as a kind of donation so to speak.
I'm sure this probably was your intention anyway, but i just wanted to bring to your attention that fans of yours like me are itching to buy them.
I guess you guys have got so much on your plate at the moment you haven't had time to sort this out, but i think you'd get alot more funding from this than just donations on the website.
Sorry if i'm not the first person to point this out recently but I haven't been on this website for about a year and discovered the xO project a few weeks ago and being a 2004 DVD hater it has really ignited my love for the old trilogy again.
cheers
