James Cameron uses DVNR on Aliens Blu Ray transfer.

It is even more pathetic when you realize a lot of the problems on the American release like too much dvnr were not there on overseas releases.

The japan release for instance looked better.  Not too sure about the euro release.

Another reason I think people need to watch, like if this is important to them, the releases in different regions.

Wait to buy and for reviews between the regions because Im willing to bet that the US/EUR/UK/AUS/JPN releases of these Alien movies will be different

Call it a feeling

For an example of how not to do it, look at the difference between the two releases of Predator on Blu-Ray.  Now that's excessive DNR.

While I do agree that the 2nd release was scrubbed entirely too much, there were flaws with the first one

1st release: MPEG2 video, same transfer used for (i believe) all the DVD releases, a very old transfer, Id say around 10 years old, definitely not perfect, and Id say not even D-VHS quality (even tho its 1080P)

2nd release: AVC, brand new transfer, all the bells and whistle filters used on this one.....now if they had done this transfer without them filters, Id say it be perfect

To me at least, the first thing I noticed was the color timing being different, the second thing I noticed (in all honesty) was the grate on the Bluray being blurred compared to the D-Theater tape, the third thing I noticed was the cropping/framing

If I remember correctly, the D-Theater tapes, ones officially released, didnt have any alterations or "touch-ups" done to them, so this makes me think that the Bluray has been deliberately altered with the DNR and color at least

D-Theater are D-VHS decks that store movies in 1080i HD with typically a DD and DTS track

Its still used today for broadcasting, its better than HDTV signal because those are compressed, but typically no they are not as good as Bluray, but I wouldnt call them a "poor mans" HD because they are still way better than DVD

Edit: Also you are not the only one complaining about the cropping and color timing Chewie

Arguing that not wearing your seatbelt is just as good as wearing it doesn't sound reasonable at all.  Regardless of what "the man" says, you are better off wearing the thing.  Ideology aside, it is just smarter.

I wasnt arguing that, per se, it might have came up as I sensational example of times it cant be as safe. The whole argument that it should be a recommendation to do so and not a law

I think Bingo was being perfectly reasonable for a while until you tossed logic out the window in favor of your soap-box.

No, I could see things from his point of view, and said it was the norm, but he completely threw out my "conspiracy theory" point of view of reasons why this is a law, while safety might be a part of the reason, it is not the whole reaosn, nor the main reason in my opinion

Edit: And his viewpoints are not the reason he was marked down as unreasonable, it was when he had to resort to nonsense pictures he became an asshat

Um, I care about the mans top priority because it affects our lives in the choices they make. Implementing their moral viewpoints on others and calling it law is just whack.

When I get into my vehicle, my top priority is to be comfortable, belts, HANS devices, 8 point restraint systems, this stuff is not relevant to my interests. Velvet seats however are.

Lastly, the last point you made, safety laws, I think I would have less of a problem with them if they just came out an said
" You know we are making these laws so you will wear seatbelts, yes it is true we are getting silly rich off you who dont wear them and yes, we also own the companies and patents of the designers of these seatbelts, but this all this information shouldnt concern you, just know that your safety is our top prioty.....wink wink"

No, what Im saying is that if you think "the mans" top priority is YOUR safety......you seriously havent thought this thru that well, or you just believe whatever they tell you to believe

Safety is not their top concern, that much I can guarantee you.....if there wasnt anyway to make a profit on any of this, then they wouldnt be doing any of it

Lets take my money approach

You are in a car by yourself and crash into a phone pole

Situation 1: You wore your seatbelt, you have numerous amounts of injuries including broken bones from the seatbelt and lacerations from glass. You get taken to the hospital and FULLY recover in a years time
Emergency services, reckless driving citation, ER costs, meds, surgury costs, rehab costs......total cost? could be over 50 thousand, oh lets not forget the car

Situation 2: You didnt wear the seatbelt and and die....total cost? who cares your dead and you knew this because you decided not to wear a seatbelt, Even then theyll (the man) will probably end up going after your family to recoup some of the costs of something.

Truth is that they want you to live so that you can pay those bills and keep giving them money. They lose money when you die.

Agree to disagree

(Where you see safety and concern, I see restrictions on lifestyle choices and liberties being stripped, and in a coup to some how get/make money......instead of letting the driver decide, well make it illegal and fine the people who dont and then say it was for safety reason, when in reality, its just another way for us to make alot more money)

You forgot the 3rd situation

The sensational driving off the bridge or road into the water where the seatbelt actually keeps the person in the car and very effectively kills them

Any person can make an argument for or against, with valid reasons on each side. Both wearing a seatbelt and not can cause death.

But leave the decision of such up to the driver, its their life

driving without seatbelt = drivers choice, not governments

If youre driving alone and get into a crash, your body will go flying and hurt the other person in their vehicle? cmon now

Im keeping to my anti seatbelt position, it should be the drivers choice when he is the only person in the car, perhaps Ill pony up and buy a car old enough that it was grandfathered in when no seatbelts were in the car, or at least lap belts

I was talking about all about all the commercials behind the premise

I hate seeing seatbelt commercials, when it should be the drivers choice, my body goes flying, so be it.....not a very good argument either

Smoking, Im for people doing what they want, they want to split sections or have different establishments, thats fine, but the commercials bother the piss out of me telling me how to live my life and how smokers are the outsiders and youre basically stupid for doing so.....if I am a smoker, its not that Im stupid, I just dont give a damn

Vitamins and pills are the same way, cant go one hour without seeing at least 10 commercials for crap that we live for centuries without and dont need

Drinking, well.....again, let people do what they want, I dont like it much but I was using it just to prove a point

Cant stand when government agencies or political parties tell you how to live your life, whatever they say to do almost makes me want to do the complete opposite

Wear a seatbelt, its my life, Ill wear one if I want
Dont smoke its bad for you, oh ok thanks, now bug off and live your own life, you dont want to smoke then dont
Take these vitamin pills theyre good for you......as if I wasnt living fine for the whatever amount of year before you told me this
Oh youre depressed? My doctor says take these pills and then they make you happy.......naa I think Id rather just take a swig of this drink, thanks

Call me old fashioned

ChainsawAsh, double and triple posts in conjunction with visible pictures, perhaps you will get bumped down soon

Fink, or whatever personality I am talking to, you put it on yourself, if I thought that way I wouldnt have removed you from the list completely in the first place, but obviously you couldnt resist importing your Fink-isms and derailing the thread
