Hopefully, they never dare do that to the Indiana Jones films, as the dissolve from the Paramount logo into the prologue is a signature of the series!

I can live with the 20th Century Fox logo gone from Star Wars.

But this is just offensive.

The fanfare was written for Star Wars specifically

Uhm, wrong? Even the recording of it found in the movie itself is from the 50s.

DAMN I was very wrong about this. The actual story is that the Star Wars Main Title was composed in the same key as the fanfare in order to match it. I thought John Williams had also composed the fanfare; somehow I confused myself somewhere along the way.

Regardless, the point stands: the SW Main Title was specifically written to follow the Fox fanfare; therefore, the fanfare should stay in place.

I can’t. The fanfare was written for Star Wars specifically, and it belongs in the film.

Ok I so know what I need to do and I can do it in Premiere! I just need to know one more thing… is there any way that I can export videos in Premiere without loosing any quality because obviously, quality is the main reason I’m doing this project.

Just make sure to encode at a very high bitrate so there won’t be any new artifacts introduced.

Would a Netflix capture or the iTunes release be higher quality?

I imagine the 4K Dolby Vision iTunes release is going to beat it out. I don’t think there’s a need to preserve the Netflix version.

Every shifting aspect ratio movie I’ve run across is flat on their digital copies, Nolan, Ghostbusters, etc.

Is the 4K iTunes copy flat? If so, my bad!

Idea: 'Avengers - Infinity War' - IMAX Version on Russian iTunes

Found a comparison of the iTunes version to the IMAX version and it does seem that a lot of information is cropped from the sides. If the IMAX ratio is on the 3D Blu-ray, then we should have rips by next week.

The information missing from the side is standard for the 3D release versions. It has to do with aligning the two eyes. This missing information is why this Russian version is assumed to be the left eye of the 3D release.

I spent so much time trying to get the russian imax version and when I did, it was 2.39:1. I think they removed the imax edition.

It can be found floating around the internet. You’re looking for torrents with IMAX in the title.

I say go for it! I’m all for preserving whatever expanded aspect ratio footage of this movie we can get, since Disney has made it clear they aren’t prioritizing releasing the proper AR for a film shot specifically for the format.

Eh, while the IMAX version is cool, it was more of a marketing device than the actual intended ratio. The movie was framed for 2.39:1 and was filmed in such a way as to make it IMAX-safe.

I do love the IMAX version, though.

This one should be cool to see, actually! I remember seeing GoldenEye in cinemas back in late '95 and being shocked to actually notice the boom mic creeping in during certain shots. The one I remember most of all was when the girl is supposedly inspecting computer equipment she wants to buy, as a means of looking up Boris. From further memory, I think it also occurs during Bond’s early scenes with M, when they see the EMP blast going off on the screens. Curiously, with both the original widescreen laserdisc release and all DVD and HD issues the movie appears to be quite tightly cropped and re-framed, perhaps to hide this issue.

IIRC they discussed this on the 50th anniversary box set’s special feature about the restoration, though I think they were giving examples from several of the films, not just Goldeneye (or maybe not even Goldeneye at all). There is one movie where the entire camera and crew are visible in a reflection during a fight scene. Not sure which movie it was; I think one of the earlier ones. IIRC they digitally removed the error in the Blu-ray (Despecialized Bond, anyone?).

The film was The Man with the Golden Gun and EON chose NOT to fix it digitally. The mirror is knocked during the fight with the belly dancer and the entire crew becomes visible for less than a second. It’s one of those things you’d never notice until somebody points it out, and then you look for it every time you watch.

Those of you who don’t have the box set can watch the special feature about the restoration here:

http://www.the007dossier.com/007dossier/post/2015/02/09/James-Bond-007-License-to-Restore

Ah, nice. Thanks for finding that, Williarob. It’s been years since I watched the special feature and the film so it makes sense that I forgot 😃 In the feature, they don’t reveal whether they chose to fix it or leave it, saying you’ll have to watch the movie to find out.

Thanks to Williarob for helping me set up the situation and contact the scanner. I am accepting donations, total cost to purchase the print with shipping is about $270, not sure on scanning costs just yet. If you’re willing to donate, please PM me! I’d appreciate it 😃
