Color matching and prediction: color correction tool v1.3 released!
Time

Well, then I would want to thank you once more for your work, this tool is really something great 😃

I was wondering if you do have plans on adding batch support to it and multiple threads? Like you could just make list of tests images and references to it and make them export it to LUT automatically. Could leave it overnight to do the work. I can run 8 calculations at once to hit 100% of CPU usage, but setting them up manually takes some time, so threads could be very nice thing too.

I really appriciate your hard work on this, your tool is just fantastic.

Hey mate,

Tried the new 1.4 version with 5 different frames from that movie. Sadly, only one out of these five resulted in working LUT file, so there is still something wrong 😦

Here’s a new link. I think this should do the trick.

The problem persists in this one as well.

This time I tested it on the frames you shared, and the LUT worked in Resolve.

It is perfect now! Tested with few frames and all worked flawlessly. Thank you very much!

Do you have any Skrill address? I’d like to donate some money 😃

Got some weird problem. The LUT generated using these two images cannot be read in Adobe Premiere Pro nor Briz LUT Converter (Imcomplete file). Tried doing it few times, over and over, but can’t get proper LUT to output.

Have you tried cropping both frames? I’m still not sure why the LUTs sometimes come out wrong.

Tried cropping them from inside of your app itself but that didn’t work either. I’ll try with some different frames.

Morphine / Морфий - 1080p Bluray - TheRealThunderbolt (Released)

Morphine is movie directed by Alexei Balabanov - Russian cult director - which is mostly known for Cargo 200 and Brother. The film itself is based on semi-autobiographical short stories by Mikhail Bulgakov.

Powerful and bizarre tale of the young medical doctor sliding into the abyss of drug addiction as the country around him slides into the horrors of civil war. Even so the revolution and the war is hardly shown in the movie (which is set in a small Siberian village), one could feel it’s dark presence in every scene, every dialogue. Surprisingly well captures the spirit of autobiographical novels of Mikhail Bulgakov, Russia’s greatest and most controversial author of the 20th century. Strongly recommended for everyone who enjoys Bulgakov, Dostoevsky, classical Russian literature and history. Also, it’s a great tribute to the director/screenwriter Sergei Bodrov Jr. who died so tragically at the height of his career.

So the movie never received real HD release. Only HD transfer that exists is one on Russian iTunes, and it has lots of flaws that I managed to minimalize or completely get rid of. The worst issue from all is crushed blacks and the horrible color timing that doesn’t even come close to what is seen on DVD release of this movie.

Using DrDre’s Color Correction tool I managed to correct it. Then with some AviSynth plugins and other programs I came to result that is noticeable better than it’s source.

I synced the DVD audio from original DVD to this release as well as Polish voiceover ripped from TV. What is interesting is that DVD was actually PAL speedup, but it wasn’t big issue. I used English subtitles from AsianDVDClub Custom DVD as well as many others custom subtitles I could find throughout the internet. I can only confirm that English and Polish ones are very good translations though, as they are the only languages I speak 😃

Audio:
Russian - 5.1 DTS sourced from DVD @ 1536 kbps
Russian - 2.0 AC3 sourced from DVD @ 192 kbps
Polish voiceover - 2.0 AC3 sourced from TV @ 448 kbps

Bulgarian
Croatian

Romanian

I am in process of authoring the disc right now and it should be done within few upcoming days. It will be available on MySpleen.

Your tool is simply marvelous. Thank you very much for sharing it - once again 😃

Had some fun with Morphine (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1186366/) by Balabanov. There is no retail HD release, and only way to get HD copy is through Russian iTunes. Quality is overall pretty fine, considering it is sourced from streaming, but there is big green-ish tint to it (which doesn’t exist in any other release).

DVD (Scaled and cropped)

iTunes (Before)

iTunes (Color Corrected)

Awesome effect! Exported to LUT and it works fine in Davinci Resolve (although I had to do it twice, as first calculation was, for some reason, corrupted and LUT files generated through it couldn’t be read in any program).

Hello,

I would want to really thank you for this great software  you made here, it will help me a lot in my future projects.

As I presume, I could use it to color correct deleted scenes to match the movie from other source, is that right (the color prediction correction)?

I would need to extract whole movie into .jpg and color correct them frame-by-frame using this, yes? For best results I propably should use new color correction model for each scene?

I tried it quickly with this movie I have been wanting to color correct and work on for a very long time now, but considering the colors it was really tough work for me. Your tool will really help me a lot :)

Source (horrible red tint)

HDTV Broadcast (IMO best colors of this movie out there, better than DVDs)

As you can see it producted a lot of artifacts on that spot there. What should I do about it? Try to match both frames even more to each other?

Thank you very much again :)

The best thing to do, is to do the color correction shot by shot, although sometimes it works very well for multiple scenes or even a whole movie if the differences in color are very consistent.

The artifacts seem to be caused by some compression artifacts in the source. Increasing the stabilization parameter might reduce these, so try a value of a 1000, and then reduce the parameter if possible.

Thanks for your reply, I will try to set stabilization parameter to 1000 when I am at my workstation PC :)

You think I should firstly go with all the filters for the movie (denoisers, Super Resolution etc. using AviSynth for that) or color correction first?
