Help Wanted: Making a PERFECT Crawl
Time

DominicCobb said:

Yes, I know this is a common thread. “How do I makes the crawls?” “Can someone make my crawl for me?” etc. That’s not what I’m looking for.

I’m working with Adobe Illustrator and After Effects. I know how to type up the crawl. I know exactly how to animate it.

What I do no not know (or am not 100% sure of) are the nitty gritty specifics. Font size, spacing, that sort of thing. If anyone’s got any tips or info, it’d be much appreciated. Thanks!

This video will help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mG9ayM9c4eg Half the saga has one font style and the other half of the saga has a slightly different font and size style as explained in the video. Hope this helps.

Return of the Jedi Re-imagined Idea

I’ll be honest - I don’t really have the time to commit to anything, other than just staying updated or helping with ideas. Years spent kicking around this forum has shown me that radically editting just one film can take years, and I’ve seen dozens of well intentioned projects end because they were too ambitious in the initial stages.

If you’re new to editting start small, experiment with the software and get a feel for how much work can go into the smallest edit. One of my favourite editors was a guy called SSWR who used to kick around here. Unfortunately he had to move on and many of his videos were lost - but here are a bunch if they help.

https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B3yF2t_dm8BXQU1JYmljbHRTQWM&usp=sharing

It’s nothing ‘finished’, but it is radical enough to change a character, interaction or pace of a scene. These simple edits in themselves would have taken alot of time to put together and to experiment with.

Really my project isn’t too radical. Any help is appreciated.

No work done at all sadly - I think I just found it created numerous plotholes. To pull it off successfully would require alot of new content too, which would be a push.

My skillbase is rather minimal - these were just pieced together years ago when I had more time!

Some of your videos are pretty well done. Better skillbase than mine! Ha. Well the currently barebones website I am moving all of the project content to is overhauled.weebly.com I’d love for any help at all with it. I’ll be constantly updating the website this week moving everything there. Really right now besides help with editing I could use some help with the artwork. I would like to have a Blu-ray box set with cover-art and disc art already knocked out.

The Rebel’s being outnumbered in space is sort of irrelevant as their plan is a quick strike - they don’t really need to out number or destroy the imperial fleet - just deliver one payload at the right time.

The battle hinges on the land battle - so surely it would make more sense if the sail barge showed up to save the day at the shield generator?

I played around with this idea ages ago - a sort of PT solution to the ROTJ problem that might be to your liking.

You’d need to joint edit this with AOTC.

In AOTC - have Jabba one of the separatist warlord. He would be bringing his Droid Legions to the cause.

In ROTJ - Jabba he has since become an underworld kingpin. you could introduce some leftover droids to his palace. He still has control of the droid fleet and legions, which lie dormant somewhere. The Han rescue is now a two-fold mission. Rescue Han, but also gain control of the droid army.

This was originally part of a much larger idea if you are interested - where ROTJ is set much later and the Rebels are now much more powerful.

The crawl would establish that through a daring attack, the now huge rebel movement has gained control of the surprisingly lightly defended imperial capital. They discover the plans for the DEATH STAR II, however because of the relentlessly attacking Imperial fleet, they can do nothing to stop it’s construction.

Leia and Lando go to rescue Han from Jabba, but also to seize the ‘key’ to the droid fleet (I’d assume it would be an extra character that they could abduct during the sail barge sequence who would have appeared in AOTC.)

Endor would now be a droid control station, which is lightly guarded by imperials. Perhaps R2D2 would ultimately control the entire droid armada?

The Emperor would reveal that he allowed the Rebels to capture Coruscant, knowing that ALL their resources and staff would be put in one place, and by destroying the city planet, he could ultimately stop their cause. A hornet’s nest sort of trap.

Sounds much more detailed and thought out than my idea. Do you have any work done on this or is it just an idea? I was thinking only of altering Episode 6 and didn’t consider a large prequel tie-in.

I’m currently in the process moving my Star Wars project to my own website. Would you be interested in helping with ideas and artwork for it? I’ll try and give you some details here if you want but it’s much better detailed in my post on this site, and eventually detailed better and organized on my website.

Would the Dagobah scene where Yoda confirms that Vader is Luke’s father be kept in this altered storyline?

To keep prequel continuity yes. Theoretically this would leave in Luke going to Dagobah and only alter the space battle, jabba subtitles, disguised leah subtitles, jabba palace outside shots and possibly outside shots of the attempted execution, and the space battle. Some minor changes throughout would be needed and scenes rearranged and spliced but that’s the main idea.

This actually might be doable, it would be especially convincing if Jabba’s palace was color-corrected to look more like dark, wet dirt that sand or rocks

I might attempt it. I think the hardest parts would be making the alliance agreement believable, boba-fett’s death, and Han Solo being saved. Everything else seems pretty straightfoward. Not easy by any means but clear-cut.

Return of the Jedi Re-imagined Idea
Time

A friend and I were watching Attack of the Clones of all movies and he came up with a pretty interesting idea for what I think would make a much better Return of the Jedi. This idea is by no means complete but I’d like to see some feedback and ideas for how it could be done.

Main Idea: Tatooine is completely skipped in Episode 6. Instead of seeing yet another desert planet (Tatooine and also Jakku) Jabba now resides on the opposite side of Endor that the Ewoks live on. Instead of a direct copy of the rest of Endor his environment could be altered a bit (this could break the cliche of 1 topographical region per planet). The rebels while having enough help on the ground from the Ewoks are still vastly outnumbered in space. Jabba is their only option close enough to the system with enough forces to help them. They make their plea to Jabba and warn him that not only will the rebellion be destroyed but also his home planet of Endor if the Death Star is not taken out. Jabba reluctantly agrees to help in the fight against the Death Star. Instead of the rebellion somehow prevailing it would make sense that with Jabba’s help they might stand a chance. Jabba could die in the space battle, or as a result of ships in space attacking his palace. With Jabba gone Solo could be easily rescued. Jabba could also survive the battle and as a new ally of the rebellion free Han Solo back to them.

I really do hope you have asked for permission to use various peoples hard work… Ok crediting is a given (apart from including the end credits sorry really bad move there) but I really hope you asked people if they mind you doing whatever you are going to do with not all their work but none the less quite a lot of work also.

This whole thread just comes off 100% disrespect

How does crediting people come off as disrespect? If you mean the creative liberties I’m going to take, several other fan edits make drastic changes. Please explain how putting hard work into creating an edit and crediting all works used, disrespects the creators?

Crediting people is not disrespectful, the point was have you asked anyone who’s sources you are using (their work) if it is ok if you make an edit from their work.

That was the question.

And that removing the end credits for the actual creators of the original films is also not that good a move as then there is literally nothing to state all the poeple that were involved in making the films.

So from what I read it felt like it was a double whammy nobody get’s credited if you were to watch your edit, please correct me If I am wrong and perhaps I read it wrong but that is what it seems or feels like when I read the thread.

To quote directly from the project on this issue.
“Removing the credits for every film to make marathons seamless (they will be view-able through the menus, separate from their films)”

The credits will still be available in full. Sourced from despecialized most likely. The credits will be available so I don’t see an issue. Maybe you just missed seeing that due to the size of the post? Its quite long and only getting longer…

Don’t you think the visual result is gonna be strange with so many different sources used ? Especially video game footage (EpIIis fake looking but still).

With the short pauses for narration and background information title cards I really think the transitions will be fine for most people. The only really major jump I can think of would be the Clone Wars series where you can easily tell it was animated but honestly it looks fine and the story content is worth the live action continuity loss. Have you seen the Old Republic trailers? They look very close to real life. All sources (besides a couple of deleted scenes) are available in 1080p or better and everything will be color corrected to match. Also, besides old republic I don’t know of any other games that I’m using as main sources?

I still don’t get this thread. What exactly are you doing to do with, for instance, Episode I ? You started this thread 11 months ago: what movie edit have you finished so far ?

To quote directly from the Prequel section in the changes:

"List of changes for the Prequel Trilogy:

Episode 4 (1-2):"

Both Episode 1 and 2 will be combined in a sense and almost the majority of Episode 1 will be cut (similar to how some other edits have done with the whole prequel trilogy). I’m currently working on incorporating Old Republic and fan edit footage into the project and then the change-list for the prequels will start(I do already have many ideas). As for the editing I want this massive project fully planned out and detailed before I go in and make changes. A clear vision with every change I want written down will help the editing process and I can take feedback before beginning.

Star Wars: Metal Edition
Time

Avatar_Emil_Borg said:

Hello everybody.

Recently, I got this idea in my head: “What would happen if I added metal covers of the Star Wars score into the movie?”. So, as an experiment, I took this cover and I synced it to the 1977 stereo mix and well, here’s the result.

Pretty good, but obviously, I need help. Why? Well, because I feel like there’s not enough covers on YouTube for one movie, let alone the entire original trilogy (and before you ask, yes, I am planning to do metal editions for the original trilogy), but if any of you play in a metal band or know somebody who plays in a metal band, you could help out by filling in the missing gaps. And rest assured, you will be fully credited once I get that far in development. As for me, I’ll be in charge of mixing the sound. For video, well, let’s say that the final mix will be GOUT-synced, but for now (at least for episode 4), I’m using Team Negative One’s preservation (as you can see in the preview linked above).

Any help with this crazy little project of mine will be wonderful. Help me, originaltrilogy.com. You’re my only hope.

Pretty sure this has already been done.

Info Wanted: What is your ideal fanedit mash-up?

I don’t think you do. I wasn’t trying to create the perfect fan edit or to start an actual project of it. I was trying to foster discussion. Specifically, discussion about what each person liked about each different edit that they had seen. Everyone’s opinion as to what is “best” is subjective. Given that this is a forum about Star Wars fan edits, I figure many people have seen many edits, and so I thought I’d start a conversation about it.

That’s all. (plus, I didn’t know about that “Redone” project before making this thread, nor did I know it had devolved into silliness.)

How has it developed into silliness?

I’m still looking for a fanedit that combines all 7 films, plus both Ewok movies, TCW movie, THS, and a bit of Thundercats into a single, 2 hour movie with a cohesive story and not too fast paced.

And you still never answered if you were going to add sound delay.

No sound delay 😃. I’ll need to put more hours in on organizing this project (still a complete mess) into explaining better what the final project is and the length. The ewoks movie will most likely be included in the bonuses or optional between Empire and Jedi.
