<strong>The Book Of Boba Fett</strong> (live action series) - a general discussion thread - * <strong>SPOILERS</strong> *
Time

The big question is did they reuse the old footage and added new things, changed the color, added new shadows or did they create all new effects and miniatures? If it is new miniatures, that explains a lot.

They muted the color of Beggars Canyon as well as the sky, in this shot at least.

By reusing CGI shots, they didn’t have to pay people hours and hours to create new effects, new landscapes, digital frontiers, etc.

Movies that rely on CG effects cost the most to make, that’s common knowledge.

But is this even possible after 20+ years? I can only imagine how many software compatibility issues there’d be, if the files would even be intact after all this time. Not to mention that 1999 CG would probably stand out if placed beside 2022 CG. Reusing film shot I get. Just re-scan it and remove the blue screen, etc. if applicable. But reusing CG that old just seems implausible to me.

Some of those shots were filmed practical or filmed in miniature, watch the special features for The Phantom Menace, lots of miniatures.

These shots were upscaled due to being shot on 35mm film.

The 2nd reason that he does this, is so they can save a little production money and reuse those shots already created for Episode I. They saved a few thousand by doing this.

Has this been confirmed? Is it even possible to reuse/transfer CG files from the late 90’s on to modern systems? Though I suppose Beggars Canyon was a miniature, so maybe they just had to find the original film negatives for those shots. Though IIRC the rocky desert landscape was mostly CG.

The Phantom Menace was shot on 35mm, the other two Episodes were shot digitally. All they did was remove the pod racers, they did create a few new shots for it, but mostly used the 24 year old footage.

Interesting how much they’re throwing in the prequel references

That has been the case for all SW prtoductions released after 2005. Not even to mention SE references. Binding the 2 trilogies together has been one of the moto of all SW Productions even before Lucas sold to Disney.

Only when references are more necessary. At the start of Disney’s era of Star Wars they seemed hell bent on ignoring the prequels - The Force Awakens actively steered away from them and you can tell, meanwhile they announce two spinoff movies and a series set in the OT era. Dave Filoni perhaps chose to include a lot of Clone Wars characters, setting etc in Rebels because he knew there were many TCW fans that would love it, and Gareth Edwards included Bail Organa at the Yavin 4 base, but that’s mostly because it makes sense. Now the prequel references come totally voluntarily. Having Din fly an N-1 fighter and retracing the podracer route seems much more directly like a love letter to The Phantom Menace.

Ok first of all, he’s in a ship that starts in Mos Eisley and he travels through that city and Mos Espa, of course you’re going to see all those references, especially from The Phantom Menace’s Boonta Eve track and Beggar’s Canyon. He’s on a test flight, that’s going to happen.

The 2nd reason that he does this, is so they can save a little production money and reuse those shots already created for Episode I. They saved a few thousand by doing this.

The 3rd reason is the nostalgia factor, oh look, it’s Anakin’s pod racing track from the movie, so cool.

I don’t mind that they did this, we did get to see new aliens and new places in this chapter. It’s all very plausible in my opinion.

Just have to put this out there, I loved The Rocketeer reference, which the director of that movie was Joe Johnston, who helped create Boba Fett, amongst other things in Star Wars. He also directed Captain America The First Avenger.

What 'a Star Wars Story' / anthology / spinoff film would you like to see?

I wouldn’t mind a Leia film or show. Its hard to replace Carrie though its quite impossible. I feel bad for what ever actress has to step into this role and will never be able to exist in the same space in people’s minds as Leia did in Star Wars 77. On the other hand i would prefer a new actor/actress instead of cgi.

A new young Leia has already been cast, the little girl from the bird box movie with Sandra Bullock. She will show up in the Obi-wan Kenobi series, as well as a young Luke Skywalker.

She could return later for her own series, if they decide to go down that road, or she could show up somewhere else in another Star Wars series set 8 years BBY. Maybe even in Andor, filmed around the same time as Kenobi.

I find this episode great too, but as you guys said, burned one slott of BOBF with content that could easily been told in Mando season 3.

Sometimes seems like the producers of this show just doesn’t know what to do with Boba Fett. Boba have ±25 years of unexplored content in the new canon, they could have explored his teenage years plus the time he worked for the empire, and a thousand other things. It’s sad that they spent four episodes to tell a story that could be told in two and now we get a Mandalorian episode in BOBF.

Regarding the Mandalorian, they want to set it up now, so they can start on Mandalore for season 3, after he visits Grogu in the Book of Boba Fett.

Season 3 will begin on Mandalore. These episodes are explaining the in between of both of those seasons.

With these chapters, we see how he got a ship, his purpose, etc, without having to waste those chapters explaining everything in season 3.

The Kenobi <s>Movie</s> Show (Spoilers)
Time

With only 6 chapters, I don’t think they have to worry about filler for Kenobi, maybe the first chapter setting up his character now, more flashbacks of Revenge of the Sith duel, but also the good times with Anakin.

Obvious spoiler:

A little Qui-gon Jinn voice over

I think Vader has these Inquisitors searching for children of a certain age. They run into both Luke and Leia, and Kenobi racing to get to Leia, while also keeping Luke safe.

A new duel with Vader in the last chapter, obviously he thinks his former master is dead after the duel.

What do you think the chapter titles could be called? Let’s hear all 6 of them.

The titles I chose for Chapters 1-6:

  1. The Strange Old Hermit
  2. The Hunt for the Jedi
  3. Trouble for the Twins
  4. A Jedi Returns
  5. Old Friends
  6. We meet again

Chapter 5 was the best so far, loved it. Return of the Mandalorian

This is the way.

Lots of Episode 1 references, great action, dark saber fights, Jedi Fallen Order droid BD-1. Does this mean that Cal Kestis heads to Mos Eisley? I can’t wait for the next episode, it’s going to be a long week. Wow!!!

My thoughts on the next two chapters.

Chapter 6, I think the big fight is in the next chapter, I think Din will heal in the Bacta tank. They fight the war, and Din leaves with a new ship. Chapter 7 has him arrive to see Grogu and offer him the Beskar armor. Luke Skywalker and Han Solo are there, maybe Grogu is playing with Ben Solo around the Millennium Falcon and Chewbacca is also there. Grogu might be at the end of chapter 6, I don’t know.

The Kenobi <s>Movie</s> Show (Spoilers)
Time

I thought of something they could do was while Kenobi is off planet, he could use the force on Biggs to be a protector for young Luke, since he’s a little older than Luke. I’m sure Biggs can take care of himself, and Kenobi realizes that’s his best bet.

Unfortunately, this isn’t going to happen. We could probably see him make an appearance, but nothing more than that.

It’s more about Anakin and hunting down the remaining Jedi with the help of inquisitors. Also from the rumors Leia will also make an appearance, I’m sure Bail Organa is going to be around somewhere.

Maybe he remembers the Jawas taking his armor in his next dream.

He got wounded in the gun fight trying to get to his ship, so now he needs to use the Bacta tank again.

I think the next chapter might be called “The Sheriff and a Mandalorian” or something along those lines.

He’s going to run into both of them trying to retrieve his armor and also Fennec or Fett will hire them both for the big fight at the beginning of Chapter 6.

I like that idea, probably won’t happen though. Boba Fett doesn’t follow the rules, and many people have seen his face.

This is the way, is not Boba Fett’s way, I don’t know, maybe I’m wrong. I would love to see him meet Omega and Captain Rex, you know kinda like a family reunion would be cool to see.

Canofhumdingers, I agree with a lot of what you said, however, Vader and Luke both had top of the line mods, and they aren’t even close to what the gang has on them.

I do agree their mods look shiny and new, instead of put together from old different parts, something Star Wars is known for. These shiny new custom mods feel a little like Star Trek or Terminator 3 to me.

Jabba moved around fine in A New Hope special edition …

Haven’t seen any special editions and I’m unfamiliar with the prequels. I’ll take your word for it, but they still seem ridiculous to me. They would be slaughtered very quickly.

Didn’t Luke strangle him with a chain in Return, or was he killed when the barge crashed?

Lol

I think Boba Fett will be injured, maybe a arm or a hand, Fennec takes him to get his arm/hand repaired

It just seems weird, there’s all this action and great stuff, then they have to stop and have a comedy troupe for a few minutes, then back to the action again, it’s very jarring and out of place sometimes.

The Vespa gang don’t belong on Tatooine neither, more like Canto Bight or Coruscant, but not here.

I love the Hutts, BK, Rancor and his keeper, all the scenes of Boba Fett’s ship flying around. The revisiting of the Sarlaac Pit/Sail Barge wreckage.

I would love to see fan edits of this after it’s over.

Episode 4 was really good, for the most part. Boba’s motivations make a lot more sense now. I only have 3 complaints:

  1. Why would he think his armor was in the sarlaac? You crawled out of the sarlaac with your armor on, dumbass!

  2. Having spice be the central item of the plot makes this all feel too much like Dune, and the last thing SW needs is more similarities to Dune.

  3. As someone above said, we never learned how Boba found out who Cobb Vanth was and that he had his armor. Oh well. I guess that’s a small hole in the grand scheme of things.

Regarding number 3, I think there’s one more flashback at the beginning of chapter 5 showing him going across the Dune Sea talking to Tusken Raiders, maybe some Jawas, and eventually coming across Cobb Vanth and the Mandalorian trying to kill that Krayt Dragon. He flys over to investigate and that’s when he sees his armor.

Then the next scene should be of him talking to Cobb Vanth and explaining that the armor is his. He tells him a Mandalorian took it from him. Then Boba Fett tracks the Razor Crest to that planet That should be the end of the flashbacks, because we already know what happens in the Mandalorian season 2.

There is no plot hole, yet, at least. They could just assume everyone knows what happens, but I can see Fett remembering Cobb Vanth and offer him a deal to help him, and maybe get the Mandalorian to help him as well.
