Though I’m a Christian, I’m not a big fan of most Bible-based films; most seem made to reinforce fundagelical dogma, at least to my cynical eye. But I absolutely loved The Last Temptation of Christ. I’d really like to get my hands on the novel one of these days.
I, too, am a Christian. But I suspect even an ardent non-believer would be moved by the movie if he approached it with an open mind.
Ironic thing is most of the film’s detractors have been believers.
Well, they say they are. Someone who truly is a believer in Christ and His ministry would have a much more open mind.
They can’t stomach the notion that God the Son struggled with doubt and lust and other human foibles and could’ve succumbed to them. Their “plain, straightfoward” reading of the Bible doesn’t allow for anything but a perfectly perfect Jesus.
Frankly, I think these people worship the Bible (especially the King James Version) more than Jesus.
Long Live the Queen!

This might be the most moving film I have ever seen. Just spectacular.
My TV only supports HDR-none 😦
That outfit, yikes
Most people cite Connery as the best Bond, or their favourite, but after reading a few of Ian Fleming’s books, and looking at that commissioned portrait of James Bond according to Fleming’s imagination, Timothy Dalton IS James Bond.
In terms of physical appearance and demeanour, Dalton is the one who comes closest to Fleming’s original version of the character, the only difference being that Bond is described as having blue eyes and Dalton has green eyes.
I really wish Dalton had been in more than one good movie. Would’ve been great to have some more good examples of Dalton as Bond!
Alchemy (Live)
Dire Straits
Merry Christmas
Bing Crosby
It would be interesting to see whatever sort of master to-do list is used for changes like that. Since they keep remaking them with every version and all.
Whatever list they have is incomplete, since they forgot to put the ships missing for a frame back in the Battle of Yavin.
Ironically, those who dislike the SEs would probably be better at preserving it.
Perhaps not ironic, as it is emblematic of our respect for preservation inherent in our preference for the originals.
The only two movies in this franchise that are watchable are Alien and Aliens. The first is great, the second is really good. Theatrical cuts all the way for both. Cameron’s director’s cut is unwatchable, and Scott’s is unnecessary.
it looks a bit more odd than before.
Is that even possible?
How Green Was My Valley
Just watched this for the first time, and it’s already become one of my favorite films ever.
Will the forthcoming “filmmaker mode” standard apply to colors/brightness/contrast or just to other picture settings like the soap opera effect?
“Damn near monochrome” I believe is exactly what Verta said about the Reliance media restoration.
Here’s that shot for the new master:
Apparently we’re looking at different vids. When I click the link, I get the shot of stormtroopers running down a hall. Video’s called “Reality Check”.

Prophecy!
It looks like the disappearing Y Wings are back.
Weren’t those “fixed” in 1997?
If anyone here went to go see the 3D release of The Phantom Menace, please tell me what the master and color grading looked like. Did it look like the 2011 Blu-ray, or this new Disney+ version?
I didn’t see the 3d release. But skimming through the movies the Prequels are just upscaled Blu-ray. I.e. nasty teal shift in Aotc.
I seriously would like to understand why people who do 4K HDR remasters have such a love for adding unappealing teal filters to their older films. Especially when it’s not the accurate color grading the movie had when released.
Make them look like modern films.
It really doesn’t, it just ruins the original look of the film and almost looks like it’s done by someone to try to modernize something by its look, when you don’t need to do something as unnecessary as that, as these classics will remain timeless and continue to stand the test of time by their quality.
Preaching to the choir. You asked why, and he told you what the revisionist colorists are motivated by.
Between this and the altered sunset shot in American Graffiti, Lucas’ obsession with altering cloud formations is getting a little disturbing. At least put some subliminal messages in there while you’re at it! 😉
What? Don’t you see where the clouds spell out ‘sex’? Disney’s pervert animators at it again! And don’t get me started about the added R2D2 boner when Leia gives him the Death Star plans at the beginning. 😛
I expected them to get rid of the 20th Century Fox logos entirely, for consistent branding with the other films. I’m honestly not sure why they didn’t.
This could be a GL thing, actually. He insisted that SW77 be preceded by the the fanfare even though it was falling into disuse at Fox at the time. In fact, it was SW’s popularity that led to Fox bringing back the logo+fanfare. So we have GL to thank for that!
I was surprised to see Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore on TCM the other night with it’s vintage 70’s Saul Bass Warner Bros. logo intact. Or does Martin Scorsese have enough clout that they don’t slap a modern logo on his films?
Warner is the worst with that. They seem intent to erase that logo from catalog titles though they ironically slap it on period pieces like Joker and Argo today. Fox and Universal usually don’t disappoint. Even Disney has been preserving the Buena Vista card lately (recently spun the Love Bug and Mary Poppins, both of which look great on blu!)
Warner is definitely the worst. Paramount’s swapped out their logo too a few times as well. One of the reasons I liked the 4K version of Grease was cause it restored the OG Paramount logo. Disney is high on the list as well. Toy Story still isn’t available on BD with the original CG Disney castle and fanfare.
Re: Toy Story, after all these years, I can hum the fanfare from my childhood VHS, even though it’s been years since I’ve seen it except on Blu. Given that modern Pixar flix (e.g., Incredibles 2) have custom logos, it’s baffling that this OG Pixar Cinderella castle and fanfare has been erased.

Is it true that Disney removed “A News Corp Company” from the Fox Logo but otherwise used the static 90s version that appeared on the SE originally? Normally i don’t like tinkering with opening logos, even something minor like that, as it’s interesting to preserve the history of these companies. But as the logos have already been swapped from the original, whatever i guess.
Absolutely love the retro cinemascope logo used on SW and empire originally
