Hey guys, what was this dices-keychain thing? Have we ever seen it somewhere?

It’s been in the Millennium Falcon since ANH. Though it is somewhat of an obscure reference. This is the first time they’ve been shown in any detail (movie-wise anyway.

Actually they were only in one two-second scene when Chewie’s head hits them in SW but they were never seen again until now.

Hm, ok. I expected something like that.

I can’t remember if Luke used his ligthsaber on Ahch-To
Does it still have it? Does we see it?

Had a problem with the scanner losing focus, here are the same two frames in 4K full aperture for anyone that wants a look.

Thanks!

The focus problem has been fixed before this frames, right? Because I can’t see any focus problem on these two. Even the dolby digital data looked well defined/usable

That’s really awful Poita. Stay strong, stay with your family until you go better.
May the force be with you.

How do I get these?

You can’t. They were never meant to be shared directly. The historical conservation was the main goal.
Btw, next time read the ongoing discussion to avoid looking like an asshole.

I’m not sure if any current monitor can benefit from it.
I haven’t looked at the 21:9 monitors, but even if there was one that could potentially take advantage, what would you play it back with?

The only situation I think it could work would be a 4K projector with a scope lens attached.

Hi Poita, all fine?

Yeah, hope he’s fine too. He did not connect since july.
I hope he is Just taking a break with SW stuff.

French title released: Les derniers Jedi. Yep, plural, so several Jedi are expected.

I know of at least one language where the title was translated in singular. So this does not seem to be very reliable.

A mistake can be made in one way, but not the other way.
In french, you just can’t translate “The Last Jedi” in plural by mistake.

That's official : "The Last Jedi" IS PLURAL
Time

Hi,

The French Star Wars facebook page has just posted the official French title : “Les derniers Jedi”, and it’s plural. (In french, the articles in plural and singular are disctincts [“Le”, “Les”]).
So, there is several Jedi, and it is not just Luke 😃

That certainly sucks, but thank god the new mobo was able to reuse the existing raid arrays. i have heard anecdotal horror stories about firmware mismatches causing issues with this. not a fun situation, but it could have been worse i guess.

how is your house cleanup going?

The roof has been sealed up, and the place is nearly back to normal.

That is good! I hope everything says ‘normal’ for quite some time. 😃

It will not be normal, it will be great 😉

The annoying thing is apparently I have to get the exact same model motherboard for the RAID to come up without issues.
So if anyone can find a Gigabyte X99-UD4, let me know.

On the french Amazon. In stock (3 items left)

Edit : But unfortunatly the french amazon doesn’t deliver in australia

Power is back on, PC won’t boot. No Internet here yet either. Going to open the PC up tonight to see what the trouble is. We rent, so the house damage isn’t our concern at least, and the house has been secured so all is good on that front, but we sustained some water damage inside. It looks like we had a power surge or brownout issue though as the fridge is dead and the PC etc seems to have problems. Will update as I work though it.

Poita, I seriously think you should create and participate to a show called “Extreme restoring”, where people try to restore old movies but are constantly bothered by tornados, disk crashes, etc. With your tenacity, you would certainly win the contest! Hope this made you smile a bit 😃

Take care.

poita said it was pre-scans to just look for damage/missing frames etc., so let’s hope the crop is not on the actual reel.

Was this a glitch in the scanning device?

He has posted the full frame scans before, including the sprockets, etc. Presumably it’s just how the preview is rendered. Though it would be interesting (unfortunate) if that’s the full image.

Really? Is it still available somewhere? Would love to see those.

Yeah, sadly they are, but it is not too late, yet.

This is the faded German Reel5 after a basic colour adjustment to reduce the red fade. The heads and tails are pretty beat up, and the film is pretty grubby.

Look very nice though.

You probably already know that, but the image looks crushed vertically.

Collaborative 35mm restoration proposition

Rask40 said:

No but seriously, I think these kind of cleanups should be left to those semi professionals (Harmy and others) who know what they’re doing. Otherwise the end result could be junk.

That’s exactly what people told about Wikipedia at the begining
😉

Like it has been said ealier, it appears that the collaborative process will be something like “spot the dust and scratch” on the frame. Without installing any software, and without technical knowledge.
And more generally, we are thinking to make it the best way, and to ensure the highest quality. Of course.

towne32 said:

The semi professionals are in charge of this endeavor. I don’t think they’ll put anyone in a role that runs the risk of junk output.
