In short, like some others others I have conflicted feelings about the movie (saw it on Wednesday, I really liked it, but I do need a second viewing, whenever there’ll be a non-dubbed screening). One thing bugged me a bit at the very beginning though: Unless I heard wrong, they reused the TFA recording for the main title, which I found a bit lazy (and remeniscent of AotC and RotS)…
That aside, it still was a great joy to be sitting and thinking “Damn, I’m actually discovering a new Star Wars movie!” 😄
After reading some info on the Internet about 20 minutes ago, it seems that Close Encounters (2017 master) also suffered (I don’t know what’s the extent of it, I haven’t bought it yet (gets released tomorrow in France)) a bit of revisionism. Why remove matte lines?

Just finished watching it, now THAT was some experience! Through all thoses wonderful surprises during the whole movie (right up to the very end of the credits), I (like I guess all of us) have rediscovered the film, thank you so much!!!

I think the La Guerre des étoiles logo has been replaced by Star Wars since the DVD (the SE VHS still have the French logo).
I guess they must have gotten their hands on the audio export of the movie (which includes all the sound layers except for the dialogues) which is sent to foreign countries for the dubbing companies.
But the English track from the French Blu-ray is really shitty, as there are several moments when the audio is (conspicuously) not perfectly synched to the picture… And I forgot that is was in 50p…
There is a French Blu-ray of Westworld (which I own), which obviously comes from a different scan (or at least restoration) than the Warner disc released in the U.S.; some comparison screens here.
I wonder where it can be found the shot of Han biting the medal, at the end of the ceremony on A New Hope…
It isn’t in Empire of Dreams credits, but (I don’t have the timecode in my head) I think it’s during the part where Lucas had to face the lack of seriousness from everyone, including the actors, during the shooting of the first movie.
I think DVD menus are the same all over the world - there are three (or four?) each, and they appear at random AFAIK - but I’m pretty sure there is a way in hardware player to choose (or change) them.
Yep, you can choose them by pressing the buttons 1, 2 or 3 of your remote during the warnings at the beginning of the disc, if I remember correctly.
Are the menu items truly deleted scenes, or were they just crafted for the DVDs?

I’m trying to find the French Blu-ray with the new pressing (if it even exists) and therefore with the original mono. I bought the movie for the second time a few days ago (this time from Amazon) but is appears that the number thingy on the disc “FW FR 15813BDSE” is the same than the one on the disc I bought 2 years ago in a mall).
The release dates on both Amazon pages are different, so could it mean that the first link in my post (which says September 1, 2014, the second link says May 21, 2014) is a new pressing? Or does a French release with the original just not exist? Thank you if you can enlighten me 😄
The Color of Money. I finally watched it last week (I knew that the Blu reviews weren’t particularly positive, but it was another Scorsese picture for me to discover), and to me it really looks terrible.
It nearly put me off at the beginning of the movie, but I must admit that I more or less forgot about the PQ as it went on because the story was IMO compelling enough (I actually really enjoyed it) not to think too much about its bad DVD-like quality.
I have the Chicken Run Blu-ray on my shelf.
