Info Wanted: The Explorers (River Phoenix/ Ethan Hawke) - anyone done a theatrical cut?
Time

If there was a third act scripted, it wasn’t in the script they used for the book.

The only major scene omission is the birthday party. The overdubbed scene of the kids at the tree in the rain is a little bit longer in the book, but they did a decent job with it in the finished film.

For those interested, I did a writeup about the book a while back: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089114/board/nest/39489468?p=1

It’s kind of hard to define a “theatrical cut” of this film though, since there was more than one cut, wasn’t there?

What I really want is a director’s cut…but I’m not sure if that will ever happen =(

Just to clarify, the version I had on tape (not sure if it was HBO, may have been Showtime) included the scene of the tilt-a-whirl part rolling down the hill, and also the dream scene near the end where the Thunder Road shows up in Ben’s classroom. It did not have the scene of Ben and Wolfgang walking to school.

Anyone have an HBO recording?

I used to, but not anymore. As far as I can remember, both of the deleted scenes on the USA DVD were in the movie.

Edit: Actually…isn’t there an extra scene of Ben before he gets punched in the nose? I can’t remember if that’s on the DVD or if it was just in the book. Anyway, that scene wasn’t in the HBO version.

Star Wars Holiday Special - Zion Hybrid v2 (Released)
Time

Maybe I just had to have been into these bootlegs back in the day, but I don’t understand why that crawl needs to be in there. After watching the WHIO release several times, I downloaded a Rifftrax version and was confused to see that pointless crawl in there instead of the extra intro news bit.

It didn’t quite have the same “oh no, not this again” effect when I sprung it on my friends.

I want to be able to end the pitch with a mic drop, basically.

I have absolutely no doubts. I’ve seen my share of “how did Lucas mess this up?”, but every time I watch one of your clips, I am amazed at just how botched the BluRays really are.

Shame about TN1. Here I was thinking we’d finally have a project without giant egos to ruin everything…

TN1 has been here for a while and everyone knew what they were doing and exactly how illegal it is.

So something has changed.

I agree. People use the phrase “grey area”, but all of our fan edits and preservations are illegal, regardless of whether or not you’re taking money out of George’s pockets.

But, you know, if the movie companies had their way, it would be illegal to sell used DVDs.
