Are you still using the PDI Deluxe capture card? Did you do any tests to compare the result from composite (using the card's comb filter) to s-video (using the X9's comb filter)?

Is there any colour adjustment in the script? (It looks like the greenish tinge has been removed from the blockade runner scenes.) What filters are you using for noise reduction?

Yes, it was captured using the PDI deluxe card. No, I didn't test the comb filters because of limited time and because the X9 owner had a lot of experience and said the composite out was much better for image quality.

No, the color is something I didn't change (as far as I know). For noise reduction I'm not really sure... I hardly understand Gforce's script :S

I was thinking of doing a more or less direct transfer (only rainbowing filtered) and doing a completely filtered version.

Are those screen caps vertically squeezed? They look like it, in comparison to dark_jedi's SC caps:

Looks great though, Arnie.d. Good luck with the project. ;-)

Yes, it's the anamorphic 4:3 picture (so it's vertically stretched).

Looking good, its very much like my player before mods, depends on the X-9 noise reduction settings for luma and chroma. I dont know what setting you had those in when capturing. I assume you use s-video because of the 3D comb filter in the X-9 ?

Everything was off. I used composite output. I don't think the comb filter in the X9 is that good. The noise filtering is all done post capture with Gforce's script.

Since the X0 project never got a release I kept searching for better equipment to do my own transfer. I think this is were it ends since I probably won’t get access to a better player. Grinder arranged the capture of the Japanese Special Collection on a Pioneer HLD-X9. The JSC is far from perfect but it’s my favorite set (for different reasons). G-Force wrote a script to clean up the captures.

I hope to finish Star Wars in the next few weeks. The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi Will follow after that.

With Dark Jedi working on the JSC and Laserdisc Revived coming up I’m not sure how “necessary” this tranferis really is…

Well, the IVTC is also done because it's easier to edit/filter the frames. And you don't have to turn it into something interlaced to put in on dvd.

Does anyone know how to get rid of these darn frames?
It is right between the scene change,it is also the very start of the LD,and to me it seems to have the same interlace pattern, but I am so tired of looking at this now maybe it isn't.

Does the script remove these frames or does it actually restore them?

Could you also tell what the other 5 are? I guess I missed some of them...

Your screenshots look pretty good DJ. Excellent transfer!

Once, I disappeared from this forum for three months, and nobody missed me or said, "Hey, where is ol' 3PX these days? I really miss that wonderful guy! Sure is dull around here without 'em."

Kind of put things into perspective for me, and let me know where I really stand. ;)

LOL. Don't be to hard on yourself. :D It's a big step from wondering were someone went to actually asking in a thread. I'm sure a lot of people missed you.

I didn't do the ivtc of the new capture yet. But I use virtualdub's manual ivtc. I process the entire movie 5 times (for every ivtc setting) and than I cut out all the properly ivtced parts from these 5 sources to create the whole movie again. Lot of work.

yes that does sound like a lot of work,I use avisynth, but I will figure something out,I was curious if the pattern changes from LD side to LD side,or if it actually changes throughout the same side?

There are multiple changes per side. I think I found 33 changes for ANH.

It's nice to see you're using the Special Collection. It's without a doubt my favorite OT LD set. I like you don't use filters. I'm always tempted to do so but they ALWAYS have negative side effects.

What capture device did you use for this transfer?

The rainbowing is a bitch. It's in my V800 capture and also in the X9 capture. It bugs the hell out of me. But I think it's partly (mostly?) on the LD itself because other discs (newer) played on the X9 don't show nearly as much rainbowing.

Ow, I looked minuet up before I asked and found it was a dance. But since waffle talked about listening to the minuet I thought it had another meaning.

Actually, it did.  Look at what he quoted carefully.

OK, so if I understand the joke janskeet is going to entertain us by providing a source for his statements by dancing (because of his typo)?

I've never heard of this earth day stuff. Weird predictions also. But don't you agree there's a limit to the amount of people this planet can sustain? Especially if we want to preserve the environment. You don't want to turn earth into something like Coruscant?

Actually, I wouldn't mind freeways running over each other and buildings being built vertically rather than horizontally.  Have you ever seen a parking lot that was a big sprawling lot vs a parking garage?  You can get far more cars into far less space by going upwards instead of allocating huge plots of land.  They might be a bit harder to build, but they save space for other things.  And since they usually put elevators into parking garages, you can park on the top and you don't really have to walk any further than if you're only a level or two up.  With a huge sprawling parking lot, it's a long walk to the store from the back.

Let's not delude ourselves into believing we have the ability to conquer and destroy something like the earth. The earth is sure to take us out long before we take it out. The over population "issue" will take care of itself without us needing to barbarically murder our own children or resorting to totalitarian style regulations.

This.  I do not for one second think that humans have the ability to destroy the planet on our own.  We are far more likely to kill ourselves in the process and leave the planet perfectly capable of healing itself.  If it's true that the planet is billions of years old, then it did fine before us and it'll do fine after us.  IMO, thinking that humans are going to destroy the planet if we don't do something smacks of extreme arrogance.

First, yes, I think building up is better than building wide. Especially in a small, crowded country like the Netherlands. I can't believe we are not building more scyscrapers.

Second, yes, I agree again. But it kind of depends on what you mean by destroyed. Offcourse we can't destroy earth like the death star blew up alderaan (man, I feel like such a nerd using this example). And even if all humans are wiped out there will be some other life left and continue to evolve. What bothers me is that a lot of people expect some define intervention when things get really bad.

I guess we done talking about abortion?

And what the hell is a minuet?

Really?  Here's what they said at the first Earth Day back in 1970:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth_Day

They didn't specifically mention population control, but it's not to difficult to connect the dots.  They essentially said, nearly 40 years ago, that there would be too many people on the planet by the year 2000.  None of the dire predictions have come true.

I really don't see what the big deal is.

try being a male (by this i mean one that actually cares that he has fathered a child)  who gets a female pregnant and has no say whatsoever if she wants to abort your child. Abortion has become as readily available over here as the contraception pill.

This actually happened to someone I know.  His girlfriend found out she was pregnant.  They had originally wanted to have a child and he was ready and willing to take care of it.  She went and got an abortion because she changed her mind and since they weren't married, she didn't have to consult him.  He broke up with her.

Is the rest of this thread for real?  I've never seen so much hate spewed forth from people that say they're moderates.  Abortion as a form of population control?  Government mandated limits on children?  We don't have to guess where that leads to, just look at China.  They have an out of control male population since they're only allowed one child, so they kill their daughters if they happen to have a girl.  It's completely barbaric.  Honestly, I have no problem putting limits on people that receive welfare, but if you want to have 14 kids and take care of them all yourself, go right ahead and do it.
