STAR WARS: EP VI -RETURN OF THE JEDI "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - ** PRODUCTION HAS NOW RESTARTED **
Time

Just some more input here…

 • Not sure if Ady has made a final decision on the sarlacc, but I think that the original, lifeless pit is as bad as the CGI beak. However, the latter could be made to work if there were any way to make it look less like a video game. Is there anything Ady might be able to do in that regard?

 • Similar suggestions may have already been made, but for the battle on Endor, there are two or three shots from the second Ewok TV movie, ‘The Battle for Endor’, where Ewoks fire blasters. If a high enough quality source of this footage is obtainable, it could be used to make the Ewoks look a bit more like a serious threat to the stormtroopers.

 • Lastly, also for Endor, has Ady considered including an extra to play the “Nik Sant” character that Dave Filoni and many fans want to retcon as Rex from ‘Rebels’? (This guy: https://goo.gl/images/Z42jTU ) Perhaps if a good lookalike can be found, some of the rebel soldiers could refer to him as “Rex” during the battle?

Han - Solo Movie ** Spoilers **
Time

It’s already out here in the Philippines. I went in with realistic expectations, and was pleasantly surprised to find it the best of the Disney SW flicks so far.

It’s well-written, and pulls off a decent job of giving more depth to Han’s character. It’s quite light and a lot of fun, too, much the same as A New Hope.

I recommend it for anyone on the fence about this film–especially for those disappointed by The Last Jedi.

 • Reinstate Jabba the Hutt at the podrace. Despite what I may have said, my real intention was to preserve the reveal of his appearance in ROTJ, going against the project’s goals. I don’t mind the Jabba cameo, so I think it deserves to be put back in for this final version.
 • Reinstate Sebulba skidding to a stop rather than implying his death.
 • Ask lovely forum members for help getting the day-for-night scene looking better.

Although I really loved your cut of the podrace—especially with the added ‘Shadows’ music—there were a few things I would have kept. Glad to hear you’re reinstating Jabba and Sebulba. I’d like to suggest that the jawa’s “tee-dee” and Sebulba’s “poodoo” be put back in also. I know some consider them part of the many rather silly and immature things in this movie, but I don’t think they breach the precedent set by the charm and humor of the OT. (The timing and delivery of the “poodoo” line is so perfect, that I find it one of the few successful jokes in the film.)

As for Anakin and Padme’s first kiss… Have you considered just cutting it entirely? I once did my own personal 3-in-1 PT cut that omitted this scene, and I think the subplot of their romance works just fine without it, and makes the “I love you” and kiss in the arena more meaningful.

On the other hand, NeverarGreat’s sample of this footage looks amazing, and I wouldn’t want to see such good work go to waste. It’s your edit, of course, and I’m sure whatever you decide will work well with the final product.

The Last Jedi: Official Review and Opinions Thread ** SPOILERS **
Time

On first impression, I rather enjoyed it. One of the things I hated about TFA was Disney’s overkill in appealing to our nostalgia for ANH. (The PT has plenty of issues, but at least had more originality.)

This time around, with TLJ, there are some parallels to TESB, but they are a lot less overt than the parallels TFA had with ANH, so it worked more in the tradition of Lucas’ whole thing about the movies “rhyming” with each other.

I liked the interplay between Kylo Ren and Rey, and Johnson did a good job keeping us guessing if Ren will come back to the Light.

I have criticisms of a few things, however. I’m rather disappointed that Lando Calrissian hasn’t appeared yet in the ST, and I can’t understand why this has been the case, especially since Williams is definitely willing to reprise the role. Lando’s appearance could have helped mend another problem with the film: Johnson’s difficulty in knowing what exactly to do with Finn. I don’t see why Lando couldn’t have been the man Finn and Rose were seeking in place of Del Toro’s character. It would have served the dual purpose of bringing back a beloved character from the originals, and perhaps given the mission of Finn and Rose more significance to the overall plot.

Some other things didn’t jive so well with me. Some of the humor, like the exchange between Poe and Hux over the commlink, didn’t fit in a Star Wars movie, and the ending with the boy looking up at the stars was unnecessary and a really bad choice for the final shot.

I also don’t know how I feel about the way Luke’s death occurred. In comparison, I thought that Han’s death in TFA was quite fitting for both the character audiences have adored from the OT, and for the story of Episode VII. But I don’t think Luke’s death was earned as much as Han’s was. Since he is the protagonist of the OT, his death should have been reserved for the final episode of the ST. I’m sure a good writer who cares about the character could have found a fitting role for him in IX.

Other than those , I found TLJ to be a rather enjoyable and worthy entry in the saga. As of now, I’d say it ranks after TESB and ANH, but I’d have to see it again to know how it grows on me. (I was euphoric about TPM and TFA right after seeing each for the first time, but I later sobered up.)

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - Fan Edit Ideas thread...
Time

Hi. First comment here. I’m new to OT.com and joined as I’ve been looking for a good way to exhibit the SW films to my family; thus I’ve become quite interested in the SW fan edit community.

Regarding an edit for Rogue One, I think the film doesn’t need too much fixing other than smoothing out the pacing of the first act (perhaps we’ll get some deleted scenes on the home video release that can help with this), and removing some of the close-ups of CG Tarkin.

As for the opening, I might be in the minority, but I like the fact that there was no crawl. I don’t think these anthology films should have them, since they are tangential to the main Skywalker saga.

I do agree that the title card could have been improved, however. Has anyone thought of doing one with the classic Star Wars font used in the saga films? Like with the yellow outine? http://www.fontspace.com/category/star wars
