Did you find a way round the Macrovision thing? Did The Phantom Menace defeat your new set up?

Edit: I just realized in my haste I completely blanked the original topic. apologies. if you are tackling this set I was eager to find out if you managed to tame the macrovision thing that seemed to have killed the PM tape or were you able to get round it

Don't worry about it!

My setup chews right through TPM's Macrovision. The image is crisp and stable; almost as good as a DVD!

Puggo writes this... (very well put I must say)

Ken, you actually seem like a kind and gentle person, so let me try, just this once, to explain something...

There are many things in this world that I recognize as being wrong that I am not passionate enough about to protest.  For instance, it's wrong how chicken farms treat chickens by stuffing them into tiny cages just so we can have cheap chicken nuggets.  There are people protesting that, and they're right.  But for me personally, there are are only so many hours in the day and I have to pick my priorities, and I have to admit I enjoy eating chicken nuggets.  So if I were to see a group of people protesting about the treatment of chickens, I wouldn't join the protest and I wouldn't stop eating chicken nuggets, but I also wouldn't fight against the protesters either because I know that what they are asking for has merit.  If someone came up to me when I was eating a chicken nugget and said "hey, don't you realize you're eating a tortured chicken?", I'd have to say something like "yeah, I know, it's probably wrong, I'm sorry but I don't want to deal with that right now."  What I WOULDN'T do is try to convince the person that the treatment of chickens is OK, just because I like chicken nuggets, and start up a facebook page about how stupid the protesters were, just so I could feel better about my own decision to eat chicken nuggets.

I suspect you kinda fall into that camp.  You too would like to see the OOT restored/preserved, but you enjoy the SEs and so it's just not a fight you're passionate about joining.  That's totally fine!  But where we have trouble with you, is that you try and convince us to stop fighting for it, and you tell others how stupid we are to fight for it. That's what I don't understand about the Lucas apologists.  We really are on the same side as you... we love Star Wars and we want everyone to be able to enjoy it.  We don't want the SE eliminated, and so we don't understand why some fans will actively resist our efforts to bring the original version back - that makes it seem that on some level you must be in favor of the originals being eliminated.

So you are free to not join our efforts and our protests... we understand that not everyone is that passionate about this specific thing.  But by the same token, don't actively fight and argue against our protest - we're really all on the same side.

And Kenkraly replies with this...

"I wish some of you would stop calling star wars fans who go to websites like TFN or relbelsum.com Lucas apologists their good sources for star wars news of all of kinds. So just  because we support anything GL does where called  Lucas apologists?"

That says it all. Stop trying guys. Waste of time.

The DVD had the original mono, did they get rid of that for the BD?? That would be awful, I can't stand that remixed mess half the time. I think the only place the new 5.1 was superior was when the tanker truck explodes.

They just re-released it in a digibook edition with no original mono mix. For this reason, I didn't get it and kept my DVD. Does anhyone know if the digibook edition is the picture quality as the first release?

I remember before SITH came out I saw the General Grevious action figure and thought the eyes looked like Maul's eyes. Perhaps this was the original intention but was tossed out. Would have been cool, but also would have been redundant. Obi-Wan kills Maul. Maul comes back as half man/machine. Obi-wan kills Anakin, dito.

True, but we're getting a louder voice these days.  If he won't listen to us, he may listen to a two star rating on Amazon or heat from more than just a fellow director or two.

It would be nice if Steven Spielberg laid into him a time or two.  I just picked up the Close Encounters Blu-Ray yesterday.  Fantastic set.  Looks unbelievable for a 34-year old film.  Plus, you get to choose between 3 versions.  Then there's Lucas's other contemporaries and mentors: Ridley Scott and Francis Ford Coppola.  Then there's the Alien set.  I know this has been covered already, but I still shake my head at the thought that other filmmakers know how to satisfy fans, and then there's George...

It IS all about the fans. I don't understand how George doesn't get this. Maybe he does but doesn't care, everyone buys everything anyway. I don't understand that either. This hurts my head.

This whole mess feels insane. I've gone through so many stages of Star Wars grief, I don't know what to do anymore! Stage one: encouraged optimism. Stage two: blissfully ignorant excitement. Stage three: sudden shock and horror. Stage four: prickly malaise.

My wife just sent me this link. The bad-Lucas-press wagon hasn't stopped rolling yet. I don't have anything against the guy, I just feel a confounded confusion about the man. If true, though, then this seems to prove what a lof of other folks here have been saying for years:

Link to original article

The geeks eventually got their face time with Lucas and I want to stress how respectful these guys were, and that they paid a lot of money for face time with Lucas. This was not a surprise interaction; Lucas came to this event knowing he’d be expected to mingle with the peons. I don’t advocate bugging celebrities in their daily lives, but this was a professional event designed to encourage these interactions. The guys were not out of bounds. They started by telling Lucas that they loved him/the movies/grew up watching them. Then they very politely asked why he wouldn’t make the original versions of the movies available on DVD/Blu-Ray. They stressed that they don’t mind the retroactive edits (doubtful, but they were being nice), they just wanted good digital copies of the original cuts, too. Lucas’s response? An eyeroll and a huffy, “Grow up. These are my movies, not yours.”

Grow up?

Watched ROTJ, bluray 720p CHD release, on a projector and have to agree. Even my friend, who doesn't catch such things noticed the quality break. This is a big issue actually. I would even go as far as this disc needs replacement!!!

I think IV V VI should be replaced seeing as the errors weren't all corrected, especially when they said they were!

The forecast are no better than nazi sympathizers. Losing SW wars is like losing a vital organ: you could probably live, but the quality of life is that much lower. Yet despite our outrage at these changes, the furor will die away and people will stop caring about these pointless changes. What a shame.

That is a shame. Sad really.

Who are these guys? And should I care what they think?

They run the biggest and most popular Star Wars podcast out there. They regularly talk with all the big names in Star Wars these days including employees at Lucasfilm and the cast of the Clone Wars. Basically this is how a large portion of Star Wars fans learn what is going on with Star Wars.

How popular are podcasts? Maybe we should start one to counter this one and educate the people as to what's really happening.

Would we be able to sue lucas? It said in the trailers to 'Own every Minute' and that's false advertising, because 'Every Minute' isn't there.

Well, we could send the discs back saying they are defective. Lucasfilm had said that all the DVD errors have been fixed when they clearly have not. Is that not flat out false advertising? Class action?
