does anyone know of a freeware that crops and maybe edits? i just need it to do a couple videos and everyone ive tried sucks.

As a complementary question, is it preferable to mask than crop, in an effort to maintain best quality? E.g.: Mask to cover tracking noise of a VHS capture instead of cropping?
I am also hoping for some cropping/masking advice.
Cropping parameters I set using mkvmerge GUI work perfectly in Media Player Classic, but VLC stretches the video.
Other video files I have with black bars already cropped do not have this issue.
JEDIT: er, never mind. I haven't tried Moth3r's suggestions yet.
