Song of the South to be broadcast on BBC Two at 10 AM this Sunday, August 27th! If you haven’t treated yourself to the bootleg dvd, get the recorder set up. No adverts to spoil it either!

Someone with a PVR get this recorded in the best possible way! (I get a free DVD for the heads up, right?)

Awesome! This might be better than the "fan restored" release.

I'll put my dreambox on for a digital satelite rip of this classic.

Tell us how it goes, and how good the quality is!

It's recording right now. For what I see, the colors don't look realy natural. And they're not entirely stable (solid objects change color slightly in a few frames time). I'll post a few frames when the carpture is finished.

Similarly - just watched it - and the colours looked pretty rancid !

I did look up mostly the same pictures. But there's one bad thing about this broadcast. It seems to be interlaced. But it might have to do with the field order that makes a combined frame of look interlaced, while the other half is in the next frame.

I noticed that too Wer-Al. It's possible that it could be the result of an NTSC -> Pal transfer. It's not really noticable during playback though, only when you pause and frame advance.

You are probably right Mentor. I've tried some deinterlace methods to recover the original frames. But it seems to be blended on certain frames. So that could mean a framerate conversion.
This means that I'll use the original broadcast mpeg 2 stream for my dvd . It might end up on usenet sometime.

Color seems somewhat consistent with the other boot I have. I guess I'll have to check and see...

Is anyone going to send me a copy for the heads up?

The color of the screencaps look similar to the official PAL VHS which I don't think looks too bad, but the color of the Japanese laserdisc is warmer. The Chinese laserdisc version (which the primary "fan-made" disc is based on) is really just too dark and drab.

I don't know if it's "warmer..." That BBC copy looks pretty good to me. I just found this forum when I did a search for the chapter titles on the Japanese LD. I'm making a transfer for my dad for a birthday present and the colors are awfully muted on the LD.

I did some color correction and cleaning as well, but the color just isn't "there" on the disc. The Japanese LD was mastered pretty poorly. The cartoon portions *really* look telecined (they are, but they really look it here), and I had to raise up the black levels in some darkly lit scenes to make out the details in Remus' jacket, or Remus' room.

These are the color corrected, cleaned ones. Comparing the first & second sides, I think I probably should've reduced the green just a bit on the second side. But I've been working on this for a good 20-30 hours now, and I'm ready to be done with it.

Here are the pics from the final DVD:

Are we thinking that instead of doing a speed up they did a 24 -> 25 pulldown? That sounds fairly unique.

Is anyone trying to restore this to the original 24 frames? (Maybe an NTSC release.)

Edit:

volswagn: Maybe I misunderstood what you said. Your posted screenies are suppose to be the BBC broadcast? Why are there foreign language hardsubs?

No, sorry... I was showing the difference between the BBC one and the LD I had just capped... I know most here have seen the LD, but I thought I'd reference it in the thread. I think there's a pretty big difference.

Actually, I just bought a high-end LD player to do a better transfer. I might try to recap, then telecide it to get back to the 24fps. It has worked well with a couple other movies I have capped in the past. Great idea.

Can any one here PM me the details where to download this rip of Song of the South. I downloaded it long ago...I believe it was Mentor's rip but I lost it in a HD crash. It would mean so much to me and my family to have this classic once again...

*bump* is any one willing to help me? I've had to re-register here having forgotten my old login info (and the email addy I signed up with no longer exists).  This is for personal use only. There was some stink here last time I asked for help because I was blindly accused of being a re-seller. I do, in fact, have an ioffer store however, the items being offered are my OWN transfers and restorations of vinyl albums....never any one else's work!!

The point they were attempting to inform you of is that you don't own the copyright for the recording which you are transfering/restoring.  cherbette.ioffer.com

This is correct. However, the albums are not commercially available on CD and probably never will be....so I offer them to the fans in the highest possible quality for pennies really. After the cost of having the graphics professionally printed and shipping and handling, I just break even. I understand that doesn't make it any more "legal" but...then again it is just as illegal to share SOTS for free...Disney owns the copyright to it. Right? Either way, both things are illegal in the eyes of the law sharing for free or sharing for fee.

The fee makes it worse, because then it goes from being mere piracy to being COMMERCIAL piracy.

So then it's the worse of two evils, I suppose. Illegal is illegal in my eyes but if it makes any one feel better to point the finger then by all means go ahead. I just wanted to be able to enjoy this forgotten Disney classic not be condemned for the things I share on ioffer. Keep in mind, that most of what I do on ioffer is TRADING (no charge) with other Cher fans. At any rate, I'm certain someone will eventually be able to share this with me again. It's sad that Disney has kept this film from the fans for so many years....
