Firefly Pilot & Halloween II! in HD (Released)

 (Edited)

On the 24th of September, Universal HD will be screening the first half of the Firefly pilot (called “Serenity” - not to be confused with the movie) and at about 1.30am will be screening Halloween II.

I want to make this clear: I am not asking anyone to cap these and post them, as I understand that because these titles are available commercially we aren’t allowed to share them around. However, I was hoping that somebody here who watches HDTV and knows about this channel might be able to tell me if these 2 shows will be presented in their original aspect ratio. I’d just love to see some of Firefly and Halloween II in high definition. Halloween II would be especially cool if it’s not an upscaling as the DVD is nothing to write home about.

I don’t think that asking the above question is breaking the forum rules, however, if the mods decide this discussion is inappropriate I will edit my post.

Unfortunately I can't use usenet (to do with my ISP and download limit - not a lack of know-how). I'll try and find somebody in the states who can keep an eye out for me.

From what I read, Firefly was shot on film, so it'll be upsampled HD.

You mean video?

Film isn't exactly upsampled as much as transferred to better specs being HD, thus looking much better and more like the film.

Well according to tvweek.com it has been remastered in 1080 as opposed to upscaled.

Now the series is being made available in HD. Twentieth Century Fox Television has remastered the show’s 35mm print to 1080i high definition for a Sept. 24 debut on UHD, a network spokesperson confirmed.br> The unveiling of a widescreen HD version format of a short-lived 2002 series is as unusual as the program’s resurrection as a cult hit and theatrical movie. Typically a series is either shot in widescreen high definition and broadcast that way, or shot on video or film in standard 4:3 aspect ratio.

But "Firefly" was shot on film (which can be converted to HD) and in widescreen, two years before Fox started broadcasting HD programming.

This is great. Now to find someone who likes usenet and likes Firefly....

Now I just need to find out if Halloween II is going to be a remastered version or upscaled from the DVD.

I love Firefly!

I love Usenet!

I think it's considered to be ok to get the HD version, if you have the available retail version. But I couldn't say for sure.

Of course that would mean buying an HD version when it becomes available. Oh well, the more profit Firefly/Serenity sees, the better the chance that there will be more made. Right now a "glitch-free" version of the theatrical movie is going up on a.b.hdtv... I hope the pilot makes it up there, when the time comes. Sometimes the most obvious things never show up. But then, hey, its Firefly, they're geeks too... It must happen... it has to...

One day I found... 10 years had got behind me. Next day was worse.

The Firefly pilot episode ("Pilot") and Halloween II are going to be screening on Universal HD later today... well that's as close as I can figure it as I am no good with timezone differences. Please those who capture HD material, try and get one/both of these. Thanks in advance!

Anyway, as we all know, Firefly is awesome and would be even better in HD. Plus, of course, all you Myers fans know that Halloween II is the Halloween film treated the worst when it comes to DVD releases: even Halloween III has received a better transfer and some special features.

I would hope that somebody here can cap both of these. If not, then perhaps the TS files will make their way onto the newsgroups and then they can either be uploaded to one of the HD torrent sites and/or someone like dark_jedi could transfer them to DVD.

See! I knew our fellow geeks wouldn't let us down.

The series pilot, "Serenity" is going up in a.b.hdtv right now.

Apparently there's a horror fan who's more prompt, because Halloween 2 started going up several hours earlier.

You wouldn't happen to be downloading either of them would you?

I will be, as soon as I clear some disc space. Of course "soon" is rarely an operative word with me.

I would automatically get Serenity. But I'll get Halloween II a bit later. (I have 72 days, and I've been letting my queue stack up. But I'll try not to take that long, heh).

Serenity is 1920x1080 (without any black borders of course).

Halloween 2 is 1920x1080 with black borders on the top & bottom. I haven't clippped a screenshot & figured the aspect ratio, yet.

So there's all sorts of clear, lovely detail.

It starts with the battle scene, as in the originally-aired version.

When I get the whole thing, I'll see if the deleted scenes got re-inserted. (One can hope, right?).
