“We are normal and we want our freedom …”

This disc has been done for a while now, but I never put up a thread for it here - I’ve barely mentioned it at this site.

So I thought I’d mention it, in case anyone is interested.

I am also working on a longer, several disc set of this, so it’s still an active project.

You may know them from their appearance in the Beatles’ “Magical Mystery Tour,” as Vivian Stanshall performs “Death Cab For Cutie.” You may know Neil Innes from singing “Brave Sir Robin” in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and “How Sweet to Be an Idiot” and a version of “I’m the Urban Spaceman” in Monty Python Live at the Hollywood Bowl. Or even for his masterful faux-Beatles music in the Rutles film.

The Bonzo Dog (Doo Dah) Band are legends of British comedy and music from the 60s. Good friends to both Monty Python and the Beatles … influenced by the latter and an influence on the former, their surreal brand of humor made 1920s jazz hip to a 60s audience.

This is the ultimate collection of Bonzo Dog Band performances - over two hours of clips, all rare.

Their hilarious and wildly entertaining musical madness will entertain hipsters of any age.

Here’s a tracklist.

This sounds like a fun DVD. I was just wondering how you could possibly make it a multi-disc set though.

I have a huge amount of Bonzo related material, more than wound up on this set. So I could make it as many discs as I wanted. =)

NEW VIDEO.

As rare as rare gets folks ... Classic concert film of the Bonzo Dog Band in Germany. Vivian Stanshall, Vivian performs "Big Shot," then there's "You Done My Brain In," and Neil performing "Hello Mabel," "I'm the Urban Spaceman" and "Quiet Talks and Summer Walks," Roger's robots perform "I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles," Vivian performs "Canyons of Your Mind," and Roger performs the "Trouser Press."

Band lineup is the late-period version: Vivian Stanshall, Neil Innes, Roger Ruskin-Spear, Legs Larry Smith, Rodney Slater and Dennis Cowan.

Apologies for the three bars across the screen - timecode and onscreen logos had to be removed.

An interview with Neil Innes -- Neil, ever the straight man, tries to talk about the Bonzos in serious terms. An apparently drunk Vivian Stanshall and Roger Ruskin-Spear show up at the end.

I have had this great and incredibly rare performance on VHS for quite a long time .... 3 or 4 years I think. I was asked at the time not to share it with anyone.

So I didn't. I did however post the audio, so that's been bootlegged.

Now, the situation has changed, and I've been allowed to share it in this form.

Enjoy.

As stated above I am working on ANOTHER epic Bonzo DVD now .... an expanded and improved version of the original now spread out over 2 or 3 discs, with a lot of rare rare stuff.

So we'll see how that goes. I am a bit busy with The Thief and the Cobbler and my own films, but it's honestly being worked on.

The complete, uncut performance of the Bonzo Dog Band performing Equestrian Statue and Little Sir Echo on the German TV show Beat Club. On the original DVD Talking Pictures, these were presented as two separate performances, but here you see them as one, with Roger's radio, Neil as the Mona Lisa and some extra dialogue in the middle from Vivian.

Wow - great stuff!

This is my first post on this forum, but I just had to get in here to say "Thanks!"...

I've enjoyed your "Classic Editions" for a while now, OCP, and the thought of this Bonzo project just boggles my mind! (To this day, I tell folks that Neil Innes invented Rap *decades* ago ['The Humanoid Boogie']. Very few of them believe me until I play them the proof...) (Similarly, Stan Freberg anticipated Political Correctness with a track called "Elderly Man River" which is *spooky* to listen to considering it was recorded in 1957!)

Anyway, I'll be keeping up with this project, thanks again!

Thanks Slark! You should definitely check out the original "Talking Pictures" DVD I created a while back .... it'll give you what you're looking for. When I first heard Humanoid Boogie, it was introduced to me as Neil Innes, father of rap. Still a great track, and there's a video for it on Talking Pictures. =)

I can see the last string was a couple of years ago, but I am desperately seeking some clips off the Talking Heads Vol2 disc esp the following

Stinkfoot montage:
What My Public Wants (Andy Black and company)
Landin' On My Feet Feet (Steve Howe)
Parakeet to Meet You (Cindy Stratton)
Made of Stone (Nikki B)
No Time Like the Future (Viv feat. Middleton's Changeling and Showboat saga clips)
Armchair excerpt (Crank)
Montage: The Cracks are Showing (Bristol Showboat Saga)

Is there any way of getting these nowadays?
