ok, I just re-watched a 4 part video about how they did the effects in the movie and I now agree with you, as in "the ones we do know are effects, like any scene with a famous person, look dated and/or odd"

the ones we don't think about, like the napalm scene or the scenes with Lt. Dan without legs, are great.
but the scenes with the presidents really challenge our suspension of disbelief to the point that we look really hard for imperfections.
the scene that really disappointed me was the one with John Lennon and Dick Cavett: even with all that make up, you can tell Dick has aged (look at his forehead and compare him to his 70's self). As for John, even I can do a better John Lennon impression, and that's saying a lot I think!
