Here's a "before and after" comparison using one of the DVD's.

Looking foward to this keep up the good work guys

For your next project what about Spider-Man the animated series or Batman the animated series.

Nice before and after. It's cleaned up fairly well after the filters. However, you may want to visit the Spleen boards and track down the guys who were working on the Clone Wars series - whatever filter chain they used was good. I mention this because there's still a little bit of ghosted lines around that guy's face in your 'after' shot. I just want to make sure you manage to get the best versions possible out of all your sources.

I'm interested in this project and can't wait to see the finished result! I've been looking for anything that may help for over a week now, but no joy. I've tried every torrent site I know and all my P2P software!! I've also been on the hunt for subs, but I keep ending up going round in circles. I'll keep trying of course, but if there's anything else that might be of use then let me know.

Good call using the Marvel record order for the set. Its a shame WB didn't have the sense to release Thundercats in their intended order, instead of the broadcast order!!

Anyway, keep up the good work, and keep us posted on the progress!

Darksaber: all 85 episodes of the original batman animated series have been released on DVD quite a while ago and are readily available on Amazon. As for Spiderman, there have been quite a few DVD releases, but I don't know how many and from which of the many series.

klokwerk: yeah, I already had noticed the remaining haloing/ghosting. Incredibly enough, the DVDs, while obviously more detailed than the VHS tapes, seem to have more issues like very nasty rainbowing and haloing/ghosting . At least they don't have to be IVTCed manually
though, which is a HUGE plus. This is, however, the first filterchain I tried: I usually try 5+ filterchains until I'm satisfied.

Booshman: I can't thank you enough for your research, even more so for persevering. Be creative, try as many places as you can and check your sites and P2P programs every day as content on them constantly varies. Also, try to get your friends to do some searching too if they can (without telling them about this project until it's done of course). YGPM, BTW .

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know WHY the X-Men Animated Series hasn't been released on DVD? I would think that with the popularity of the movies they would get these DVDs out as fast as possible...

As with most TV shows, there is probably some legal problem with the rights that is preventing it from being released.

Well, it does belong to FOX, and they have a knack for making stupid decisions .

Actually, the property and air rights currently belong to Disney as part of their purchasing of the Saban library (which also includes The Tick, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and the 90s Spider-Man series, among others). This is why you occasionally see X-Men and the other series I mentioned on the ABC Family channel and Toon Disney. Marvel, of course, owns the characters and that's where the trouble is. Not unlike the 60s Batman fiasco where Warner Brothers (which owns DC Comics), 20th Century Fox (which produced the series), and several financial backers (who partially own the series) are currently squabbling over who puts up the money for a home video release and who benefits should it be profitable.

That's interesting, didn't know it.
Anyway, I recently came across two new automatic IVTC methods I'll be trying soon on the VHS captures. Wish me luck!

P.S: start looking on every search engine, P2P software and asking to friends about subtitles and the latin american dubs, please. The more of us searching, the better the chances of finding something. Also, confirmation on the alleged Marvel record order would be nice as well.

Was not this Cartoon based on Jim Lee's anime esque X- men comic?

I know the movies are based on the Claremont Re-Imagining trying to keep as much of Kirby as possible?

I loved this cartoon back in the day, and Gambit was one of my favorite characters and I was pissed when he was not in the movies. I always loved the animated styling of Wolverine and Rogue as well.

“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.

Bobbing (two different methods, one of which requires a FAST computer and 1GB Ram) + a fieldmatcher that works on bobbed streams.

Stedwick: we probably bought that one too before finding out that it was still being aired on TV .

I just uploaded an "X-Men Season 2 H264 (QuickTime)" torrent to http://www.tvtorrents.com/

I ripped the DVD torrent into H264 format, in case there's anyone out there like me who stores movies on external hard drives rather than DVDs. Or who likes to carry around a few episodes on their USB drive. It'll play in QuickTime on both Windows and Mac OS X, and it works great with Front Row (for all you Apple people like myself hehe). You can also easily compress H264 to play on your video iPod if you want.

PS X-Men seasons 1 and 3 could use another seed or two...

That's off topic here. Please make a separate thread for that.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to post off topic.

However, I thought this was the thread about making the X-Men Animated Series freely available on the internet. The very second post in this entire thread, one of the posts that started it all, and the reason I even FOUND this thread on Google, was this post:

"I invite you to MYSPLEEN.COM where they already have seasons 1-3 of them posted and more on the way.
Sign up for myspleen and you can enjoy these movies.... "

So I thought I would tell people that I have taken their season 2 DVD project and converted it to H264 for people who would rather have nicely compressed .mp4 files instead of a VIDEO_TS folder.

However, I don't know much about OriginalTrilogy so if I'm off topic I apologize. The above was my thought process behind my post.

Stedwick,

The main purpose of this topic is in the creation of a more 'definitive' transfer of the series to DVD, not just getting hold of the episodes in a small, easy to download, format. Hence Byakko's pursuit of IVTC info.

Byakko - I'm still planning my attempt at the DVD menus, currently trying to find some suitable comic-book imagery. I thought about maybe using images from the Age of Apocalypse series, as this seemed to be in keeping, but I'm not sure and I'm keeping my eyes peeled for that piece of inspiration as it were, while trying to clear the decks of other jobs...

Make as many versions as you can/want, that way we'll have more choices .

I'm sad to announce that apparently both automatic IVTC methods I found failed and manual IVTC still seems to be the only way to go with the VHS sources. However, I am progressing nicely in the filterchain of the DVD sources: pretty much all of the HORRIBLE rainbowing has been removed and I might have found a way to remove (or at least dampen to almost unnoticeable status) the NASTY haloing without killing details and sharpness in the process.

Everyone: please try to contribute. There are lots of things you can do without having to create subtitles or do manual IVTC, none of which consumes more than 5 minutes a day.

So, which filterchain do you prefer, the new one or the old one?

To me, the original looks sharper and clearer. The second looks muddled (even though the rainbowing is removed).

In all four comparisons or in a specific one?
