The first DVD project from the X-Factor. XFAC001

“Blade Runner / The Restored Workprint”

For about two months now I have been tinkering with this project. Originally intended to be a a restoration of the original VHS Cam version of the 1991 copy, I have decided to restore using the best known prints.

Using these versions -

Picture

+Criterions’ LD Version of the International Cut
+The Domestic Widescreen Presentation from AMC ( still undecided as to the quality of the copy/ VHS rip)
+The Original Directors Cut DVD
+The International Trailer ( for the original Blade Runner - Harrison Ford Bladed titles)
+The infamous 1991 Cam WP copy - for various shots unavailbe in any print.

Soundtracks-

The 1991 infamous Cam version
+Esper M2k
+Private Release

This project will attempt to restore the workprint as close as possible. Alternate and deleted footage will need to be pan and scan and restored to the best possible prints to coincide with the 2:35.1 picture.

+The holden Hospital scene will not be insterted.

This version will be rough in certain areas.

Extras stuff on the disc includes

+On the Edge of Blade Runner
+Future 101 VCD
+and various interviews from the 1982 release.

Seeking for the DVD (if anyone can help) will be the Blade Runner LD extras in NTSC
any other Rare Blade Runner Prints or Soundtracks that will help.

Anyone who wants to work with me on this project feel free to BAM me a message.

Specially anyone with Sound and Editing skills.

Thanks, I hope you enjoy. I will be using Ulead and Final Cut to edit.

I am about 4 weeks away from a trailer release.

I noticed a snippet of an outdoor scene with Holden in the trailer, do you have a quality version of this you'll be re-inserting?

Also, why no hospital scene?

No hospital scene because it was not originally intended and not a part of the WP.

The outdoor scene your referring to wouldn't work becuase

- I do nto have a quality print and also it was just a snippit and not the complete scene.

Thanks for asking.

I jsut hope what I start I finish because I tend to put things off.

I am also thinking about adding the RARE televsion cut that has the alternate title sequence and broadcast in 1985. Not sure though. I want to get the project rolling first and I will need to collect the best possible prints of all.

Blade Runner (not sure which version) has been shown in HD on Japanese pay TV (WOWOW). Picture quality is amazing. OAR, AAC audio. Only unfortunate thing is the Japanese hard subs (that have been foisted upon Japanese broadcasters by Hollywood). But even those have been tweaked away by somebody. This should very handily kick the ass of the terrible DVD transfer, which isn't even anamorphic widescreen...

I have a trailer in 16X9 Mode and NTSC, from a Warner DVD (not the blade runner DVD). If you want it..., please PM

I have the following Blade Runner soundtracks in mp3:

* 1995 Gongo Edition (European Bootleg)
* 2-Disc Esper Edition v2.0
* Los Angeles 2019 <- Might be good for menus and such. Contains ambiences and atmospheric tracks.
* Deck Definitive Edition

And of course I'm sure I have the official soundtrack somewhere and possibly the orchestral CD (the first official soundtrack release for the film).

Let me know if any of these might help you.

I have a VHS copy of the original master for the "re-release" of the workprint. They showed it again in the late 90's and I got a "limited edition" copy from the master. I paid like $30 for it too.
I also have the Gongo edition CD. No mp3 if you want no compression.

The re-release yes?

Directors Cut.

But even if you're looking for the original version, this is still going to be the best master we have if anyone is able to capture it. The current DVD is single layered and terrible quality. If one captured this correctly, they could have a full dual layer, anamorphic set with possibly 5.1 sound! Do we know if that channel is encrypted?

Of course it's encrypted. Still, I'm pretty confident I'll have it within a few days of it being aired, despite living in a country where it won't be broadcast. Usenet rules.

Don't be so sure. Some people have said that sometimes it is...and sometimes it isn't..depending on where you are and whatknot.

Is there a way around the encryption?

Confirmed. I will be able to do a dual layer version of this. I'm getting a copy split over 5 DVD's. I'll just have to mix it down. Will have 5.1 as well.

Thanks Guys for your input and help. The project is a little bit harder than I thought. But I am hard at work on it.

I'l PM you all when I start talking extras, thanks

Also debating with my friend Jim if I should convert to 16:9 ??

If so it would be easier to use the 4:3 added scenes and possibly crop slightly, I don't know cropping sound crappy but would be worse in 2:40.1 and then suddenly jump to a 4:3.1 scene.

If anyone has a 16:9 good print of the International Cut lmk!!
Thanks

And it's absolute crap quality. I downloaded it and wasn't worth my time. Nothing 2 hours should ever be put on a single layer dvd. It's got video noise all over it.

Was the video noise part of the LD transfer or was it due to compression? I thought it looked alright considering the official release.

Probably a combination of both. 2 hours is two long for a single layer DVD. What I don't understand is that you'd be better off taking the regular BR dvd which is essentially 16x9 already, adding the fake ending, editing out the dream sequence and just mixing in the VO to the soundtrack. That would give you nicer results than an LD transfer.
