When Should we see the Falcons Mandibles out the window? — Page 3

It's around there somewhere Frank....

I think the question this debate and although comedic really poses, is If I am to pay £15.00 and sit in a cinema and watch the OT in glorious 3D with glasses on.. Do things like this need to be adjusted or enhanced in terms of 3D (filling in the missing 3D perspective) to keep us immersed in the 3D experience.

Is it necessary to enhance missing 3D perspective errors to keep it from falling over?

And although I am not really bothered that it is not visible in the film (although yes I would advocate the never before seen camera angle looking out the window seeing Han driving his much beloved Millennium Falcon for Episode 7 TFA) would I be bothered by it if I was watching this film in 3D and I had paid £15.00 for the experience?

I think the Answer to that question for me at least would be "Yes". I would expect an immersive 3D experience if I paid for it and although you could consider something like this a "special change" it would be very applicable if the film was in 3D.

I Love this film and It's a totally forgivable thing for a movie made in 1980 but would I be so forgiving if I paid to see it in 3D in 2020?

2020 vision :)  I knew there was a joke in there somewhere :)

At heart, hard-core OTers are no different than all the fans who discuss the trivialities of the EU and try to reconcile the various discontinuities, they just talk about different things. ;)

 So...they're all annoying?

;-)

Annoying doesn't even begin to cover it. ;)

What I meant though is that they spend to much time worrying about things that are just fiction....

But I was like that once or twice, so I can't complain too much. And I still read all the incredibly trivial problems with the movies that the OTers write about....

It's not so much about being worried about a problem but more about being a creative person and half of it also being just a desire to actually see the ship out the window which is also a fair desire to have.

Again I have revised positioning... It's actually more like what was in the first post I think but on this shot and obviously as a current assessment not seen at all on the other 3 POV cockpit shots.

To make this happen I had to get Lightwave 3D and learn a bit of how to use it and download a model of the falcon so I could assess angles. This is far more accurate now.

I have also emailed Stinson weather or not I get a reply or not, but I hope we do as his model is by far the most accurate by all accounts including the cockpit which certainly was not the case with the model I was using to do this mock up.

No more Star Wars Arcade green Atari wireframe lines :)

And hopefully a conclusive wholly accurate answer coming soon.

Me too!

So although we have by and large written the low centered POV angle off, upon discovering it has been cropped off. I put together a rough mockup of the difference of what it would look like cropped and un-cropped as a comparison.

And with the Black Bars filled in...

So again let me re-iterate it is only rough but It's an interesting thing to see it differently like this and gives a lot more depth of field and corrects the aspect ratio. So all round I have to say I quite like it... Especially seeing the controls right in front of us also.

I had to make up a bit of detail on the bottom left as it was missing. But anyway it's cool that the angles match up exactly and we can see this in a totally new framing.

 ;-) = not really

 It all depends on...

1. If you would really like to see the OT in a cinema in 3D

2. How does the film translate into 3D as a direct port (pretty well as a whole IMO)

3. What would need to change but not make it a bastardised over the top CGI extravaganza but keep the film pretty much the same.

4. Extra version of the film but for thrills not as a replacement for any other version.

I think 3D is by and large a gimmick and it is something I rarely buy into I have on a few occasions with varying different opinions on the experience... And then I saw "Gravity"

I won't ever forget that experience...

I have no idea what you are responding to, but it's definitely not anything I posted.

I am talking to you and everyone else here who reads this thread.

The current Special edition is a corpse, it's dead meat.

Although it's a rarity in cinema really now and if a screening pops up in cinema people will go to see it there is absolutely no chance of a re-release on any wide scale of the special editions or even the original films to cinemas.

If any restoration is to be made to the original film negatives it will have to be a new Special Edition version and offer something new i.e. Stereoscopic 3D with some enhancements be it physical of virtual (CGI).

This could also include the original theatrical film with the 3d version and the varying Special edition version as physical media (Blu-Ray) which would be a historical sort of relic by this point.

The Special Edition will not translate to 4K but neither will an unaltered OT translate to cinemas on any wide scale.

It would be like trying to promote seeing Original Sinbad trilogy world wide to millions of people.
