When Han Solo was Frozen in Carbinite How did he survive so long without Water ?

When I was a child I thought that Star Wars picked up right where the other one left off. Like Lord of the Rings both books and movies do Even if that where the case they would have to get there to save Han in at least 2 days before he died of thirst. I don't know how they could get there so fast. When Leia set him free from the Carbinite Han was not begging for Water I always thought that was strange. Well later I found out it was like 3 years between Empire and Jedi. How could Han Solo go that long without Water ?!! He could not even go that long without Food. ! Well I am sure there has to be a reason . Does anyone have any idea ! >

My guess is the Carbinite had him "Frozen" or Deep Freeze State. And the Bult-in Computer kept him Alive some way. maybe like somekinda Carbinite Coma.

Lando did say when checking the Slab's LCD it said He was Alive and in "Perfect Hibernation{sp?}.

Good thing it was not a "Windows" run system. hehe

IMO.

The idea is that the carbonite put's him into a state of hibernation, IE slows down his metabolism enough so the his body burns very little energy. So he can survive for a long time without eating or drinking, just like a bear, which hibernates for several months and doesn't eat or drink. So remarkable as it is it does happen!

Actually I would have thought the first thing he would want to do when he was released was visit the bathroom...

think of it this way: han being frozen in carbonite is the same thing as him being frozen in ice... being cryogenetically frozen.

always thought so too. carbonite sounds much cooler (pun not intended)

but I have to admit that I've always thouht that there were only a couple of weeks between ESB and ROTJ. so that means that Han missed out 3 years of his life?? freaky...

He did not lose three years. If you look at any timeline of SW, you'll see them say that ANH happens in some given year, ESB is equivalent to ANH+3 (years) and ROTJ is equal to ANH+4. This can be give or take a couple months, I'm sure. So, at most, Han was likely frozen 12 months. I don't know how it's possible to survive without food and water, but they do perform cryogenic freezings now in real life, so they must have something worked out.

does anyone here wonder how Lando got into the palace as a guard...

its obvious that they wouldnt not notice a new guard... so Lando had to have recieved the position legit...

do you think he applied.. had a connection... ?? any other suggestions?

Thanks I was thinking it might be something about him being a sleep for so long or whatever but I wanted to hear others opinion first and I was not quite sure. I am wondering if Lando where there so long and even though he was dressed up how did Boba Fett not notice him and great a Bounty Hunter as he was and had all that time ? Surely Lando's voice must have seemed familar ? Maybe Luke was just so good at planning things by this time that he somehow knew how to tell Lando how to not get caught , plus the force must have been with them

Actually I am quite certain that they can't reanimate the person. They freeze the body in the hope that in the future we may be able to figure out how to bring the person back to life. I believe one of the biggest problems is that the brain dies when it is completely frozen. It is true that the body can survive for longer when it is very cold, even though the person appears to be dead, because the metabolism slows down to a point where it almost stops, but we are still talking only an hour or so, not years. It is something scientists have spent many years and huge amounts of money researching (I beleive that many celebrities have left their fortunes to this research in the hope that they will awaken alive and well sometime in the future), but at this stage it is still a pipe dream I think...

No not really. Have you ever seen that... stallone movie where he is... uh frozen, and... oh forget it.

Now Walt Disney, he is frozen in carbonite, at least, that's what the rumors say...

As for Lando's voice, it's possible that there was a muffler or translator built into the mouthguard much like the one in Leia's Bousshh disguise.

As for cryogenic reanimation, I agree that they do not have a way to reanimate yet, but there must be something happening to keep a body nourished to keep the brain from dying entirely or the body from withering into nothing. Something more than just the ice, that is. I don't see how reanimation of a body could ever happen if a brain completely dies. I know cryogenic freezing usually happens to people that are "dead". But don't they keep the brain going for a while via machine? Maybe I just don't know my cryogenics. So maybe the people in the SW Universe do. I would still assume that carbon freezing is relatively equivalent to cryogenic freezing. Just that carbon dissolves into gas. Remember that when Han came out of the carbon freeze he was cold and shivering and undernourished. Sounds like the same sort of thing I would expect from someone emerging from cryo freeze.

Yes I agree that's how it would work in the SW universe, but I was just saying that it doesn't happen in reality yet. There is a frog that allows itself to be frozen in winter and reanimates itself in spring, using antifreeze that it stores within it's body, but obviously a frog has much simpler anatomy than a human. I thinkk even if it were possible to reanimate a human they would not be the same person; ie their brain may begin to function again, but they would have no memory of who they were and would have to learn how to walk, talk etc. again. Which would make the whole thing sort of pointless.

Ted Williams and his son are frozen too. Those a fact. What is rumored with Ted is that they accidentally cracked his skull in the process of freezing him.

I quite like Demolition Man. One of very few movies with Stallone in it that I enjoyed, and possibly the only one with Sandra Bullock (OK, I did like Speed, but I thought she was the worst thing about it). Plus, it had Nigel Hawthorne in it.

another movie with someone cryogenically frozen would be Austin Powers 1. but I think they're spoofing demolition man at that point.
btw, i think dm is not that bad. has some funny moments.
