This is a thread that's gone by the way side. Anyone reading anything good right now? I'm reading "American Gods" by Neil Gaiman. I've just recently discovered his work. MAN, he is awesome.

Also waiting for November 8th, when George R.R. Martin's "A Feast for Crows" hits the shelves...it's the latest in a series he's doing.

Wow...that sounds very deep, very depressing. Have you seen Hotel Rwanda?

After my current reads, I'm going to be doing some research on Greek Mythology for a book I hope to write.

Right now, nothing. Just finished reading everything by Kafka. Would like to read some Nietsche or Kant for a change of view.
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

I'm Reading Straken by Terry Brooks

and war of the rings the history of the lord of the rings part3 by Christopher Tolkien.

Books I intend to read soon are:

Knife of Dreams by Robert Jordan

Eragon and eldest by Christopher Paolini

the rest of the history of middle earth series and anything tolkien

I finished the new harper collins edition of smith of wootton major by J.r.r. Tolkien and edited by Verlyn Flieger with tolkiens original notes, it was quite good.

You should try Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" fantasy series. Better than Tolkien, IMO.

Yep. Amazing movie. That's why I nabbed the book. I was actually looking for a different title, but Border's didn't have it. Found this one on the rack and thought it sounded interesting. It is exactly that.

I too am looking forward to A feast for Crows and don't know why it's taken so long. It had a couple of previous release dates that were bumped up. Supposedly the book has been done for a while, and he is working on the next one in the series.

Glad to meet another GRRM fan.

From what I gather, he began Feast by jumping it ahead 5 years of where Storm of Swords left off, then telling much of the story in flashbacks. He then found that this didn't work, and had to scrap it and start again. He took much of the unused material and is putting it into book 5, tentatively titled "A Dance with Dragons", which is already 1/2 done as a result. He also said this will result in a 7th book in the series, again tentatively titled "The Winds of Winter". I hope this next book is ok...I find that when I'm doing anything that my first instinct is more often correct. I LOVE this series, and I do believe it's better than Tolkien's stuff.

The only thing I am reading at the moment:
Star Wars Dark Nest II: The Unseen Queen

Though after I've read that, I'm going to finish off Chandler's Philip Marlowe books.

I am attempting to tackle the Morte d'Arthur at the moment. I read a little piece of it in literature class and I thought it was som awesome that I wanted to read the rest of it. Paradise Lost is next on my list.

your reading le morte d'arthur, which version malory or caxton? There is further a third version by the author of the grapes of wrath John steinbeck.

speaking of books I'm waiting for my 50th ann. lord of the rings limited u.k. harper collins deluxe to come in the mail, as well as the definitive corrected text of the hobbit deluxe version with colorized tolkien pictures.

Now as for king arthur, they should do a good film version of le morte d'arthur, and the once and future king by t.h. white you have read the once and future king have'nt you. While your at it you should read mary stewart's merlin trilogy and it's sequel the wicked day easily the best of the modern arthur novels.

If your going to read Milton's Paradise Lost you might as well read the dante trilogy. Starting with the inferno.

I'm working on the Malory edition right now. I actually read Once and Future King during the summer. Have you ever read T.H. White's "The Book of Merlin"? It's the intended last part of OAFK but it doesn't really fit that well with the rest of the story.

I've been dabbling in Dante's work a little bit, but I haven't had the time to really sit down and read it yet. All in good time.

As for a Le Morte d'Arthur movie, I think I'd rather see a good film adaptation of Beowulf. As an aspiring filmmaker, if I ever had a huge budget for a film, I'd make a text-accurate Beowulf film with spoken Anglo-Saxon/Old English dialogue with Modern English subtitles, "Passion of the Christ"-style.

Just finished Angels and Demons. Prior to that, I was catching up on my Eoin Colfer (Artemis Fowl: The Opal Deception, The Wish List and The Supernaturalist). It's a nice break from slogging through res files.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

My brother read both angels and demons, and the davinci code.

He said angels and demons was better, and could'nt undertsand why they would make that one into a movie first.

He called the books the thinking man's indiana jones.

I read both as well. While I enjoyed both, thinking back, I find all kinds of holes in both stories. I'm sure most everyone found them as they've become two of the most critically analyzed novels of the last couple decades. As to which was better... I'm not quite sure.

The review on Amazon for Feast is not good. I'm not happy that neither Tyrion or Daenerys is in this book...
