This was prompted by someone someone here posting a unicode character. Apparently this system I’m using (Windows) doesn’t have a font that contains this emoticon if you can see it ( 😃 ) or such characters, and instead displays a number-in-a-box for those who can’t see it (graphic with magnified view for readability):
And it’s not just here, but anywhere.
Has anyone solved such problem with a recommended font that carries these proper symbols?

Unfortunately, it didn’t help to get unicode “smileys” to work in Firefox under Windows 64-bit. I’m now suspecting the problem is in Windows … as some of those smileys work in the same version of Firefox under Windows 32-bit.
Has anyone come across this dilemma with a solution? (And, yes, I’ve tried quite a few different corrective measures from various forums without success. Can this really be the state of computing in The 21st Century?)
