Hello, me and Meedermow are also working on this Project. Fan of Bruce Campbell? Then this project will be of interest to you,tho it hasn’t started yet. We need more materials. Here is what we have so far…

I've got the special about Raimi/Campbell from the Incredibly Strange Film Show with Jonathon Ross on VHS, I think this may have been released on the UK set but I'm not 100%, it's pretty good. As well I've got a DVD full of shorts by Raimi/others with Campbell. It's got Within The Woods but it is nearly unwatchable.

Molto,send a copy of the shorts with Campbell to meeder And True,the Incredibly Strange Film Show is on a OOP(I think?) Trilogy Box Set. So if it is indeed OOP,we might see the 4th disc added to this project.....


And please give meedermow a few slaps on the back,as not only does he have the Alien Appendix under his wing but also Dawn,Day,and Campbell projects with me added to that. He is a great guy to deal with. And there might be at least 1 more project for the 2 of us,but not until 2 of the first 3 are finished. Thanks Meeder!

I've been meaning to bring this up for awhile and ask about the availablity of some things.

To cut a long story short me and a couple of guys in the US, who used to trade a lot of Skinny Puppy bootlegs, went on a mad scavenger hunt to track down a copy of the original fund rasier for The Evil Dead - Within The Woods - about 4-5 years ago. Eventually Scott Spiegel's assistant was tracked down who parted with a copy of the film made from his dub of Spiegel's copy (so 3rd Gen) along with about 2 hours worth of very early shorts made by Spiegel, Sam Raimi, and Bruce Campbell. I have copies on VCD (this was pre-DVD burner days) but never wound up getting copies on DVD and I remember one of the shorts was left off because the video was so poor it was really only an audio track. I was wondering if anyone here has any of these shorts on DVD. This guy has the collection we uncovered - but I'm not sure if it's just taken from my VCDs (I traded them out a few times) SVCDs which were later made, a generated tape dub - or the 3rd gen dub properly encoded as a DVD.

But yes - I'd love to see some rare Bruce Campbell features on a DVD. I know I also have a very funny Hail To The King trailer on disc somewhere which Bruce crops up in.

It's a tiny file, I stuck it up on youtube awhile back (before my account got cancelled). I can dig out the file and put it on yousendit.com over the weekend.

Also if you're serious about this and getting the early shorts contact Bill Piper who runs this site http://www.skinny-puppy.info/ as he's the one who has the tape of the Sam/Bruce shorts that all the copies kicking about source from, and I know there was that one short that he never transferred the first time around (he may even have more these days - and he did send me the hail to the king trailer way back when). I haven't talked to him in years, should really drop him a line, he had an impressive collection of rare horror films and workprints back in the day - no idea how large it'll be now.

Wow that's crazy I always wondered why this compilation was made and such. I'd love to get copies of whatever you have as you can trace the lineage and I'm sure they are better than mine. Do you have the VHS still? or could you get a copy none the less please pm me! This compilation and Within The Woods has been in the tape trading pool for a very long time now. My personal copy definetly has a lot of VHS generations between me and the source(whatever the source being possibly vcd>vhs>dvd or just a lot of vhs generations). Asylum is just a big trader who also sells his stuff, I got my copy from someone else a while back, mine are slightly better quality but mine is missing the short Six Months To Live. Here's two caps of WTW and the Indiana Jones spoof. Looks better than the caps,

Well if it is a true workprint,then maybe we could make a Evil Dead 2 Disc with that and the behind the scenes 75 minute feature.

For those that have the special edition DVD set that was supposed to have Within the Woods on it you might want to do a little hunting for an easter egg. Even though WTW was removed at the last minute there is a single menu screen introducing it that isn't accessable from any of the other menus. I assume it was disabled and left on there by accident. You can find it from ripping the DVD. It mentions how it was restored and says some stuff about the soundtrack which for many years was one reason it couldn't be released officially due to music rights.

Hi, charliesheen. That movie is called "Running Time", and it's actually available on retail DVD. It's not one of their early films -- it was shot in 1997.

By the way, congrats on that successful "Within the Woods" search you described. I'm really jealous -- I'd love a legible/audible copy of WTW. Mine is basically 100% tracking problems and fuzz.

(Note: I can't remember the name of the shot that was in such bad shape it wasn't encoded)

OK, now before anyone gets excited about these being capped form a 3rd gen dub they look and sound bad. The original negative these were taken from is in a horrible state and generally they are very dark and have low, poor sound. Asuming the DVD cap is got is there someone here who is good at doing a remaster of videos (playing with brightness/colour levels and remastering the audio tracks)?

OK, now since I got these I'm fairly certain the Evil Dead Trailer and Book Of The Dead Trailer cropped up on the special edition of The Evil Dead - this will have to be checked. I also noted that Styker's War was released on DVD in limited quanitites a few years back. Does anyone have this? I'm guessing what I have is actually a different cut or a workprint, imbd made it out like Bruce isn't in it much - but have a quick look now (been years since I watched it) he's in the start a lot (smoking a cigar no less) and this cut is only about 45 mins long and has a real make-shift credits at the end.

Another question - did XYZ Murders come out on DVD? I know there was a laserdisc, and is a trailer on it?

I also found my SVCD of Within The Woods and The Book Of The Dead Trailer. Now, as mentioned above it does not look great even though it's as low gen as you're going to get - the print Scott Spiegel has is in a bad way, but it's basically as good as you're going to get until it actually gets a real release (which may never happen). This Dub it was captured from was also sent to Anchor Bay for possible inclusion on a DVD they were putting out years ago (likly before Raimi decided to remaster from his print).

Annoyingly right now I can't find my Hail To The King trailer, it was on an old VCD and I found it a few months ago and stuck it on youtube so it is about here somewhere! I also have a cool short video that was a fan made vid for SKinny Puppy's Who's Laughing Now (which heavily samples Evil Dead 2) and is made up from clips of the film - with the samples. It was made back in the late 80s, early 90s on an analogue deck so it's pretty vintage. However it's currently MIA also, but will turn up...

Possible other things that could be located:
On youtube is you type in Bruce Campbell someoen at comicaon this year has recorded his Q/A, someone could message that guy and tell him about the project. Those 2 Sam/Bruce made music videos - again message the guy who put them up. Also, I forget the film's name, but some guy made a low buget film about a wonder drug that was meant to be better than sex, and it was sort of a documentary, but anyhow as legend goes Bruce did a short bit for it at one of his book signings and it was included in the original cut of the film - however the Actors Guild/Union came down hard on Bruce because he has done this short cameo and Bruce had to call up this young film maker and ask him to take the clip out of the film. It's possible this clip could be located and included on this project.

Are there any other OOP or region exclusive Bruce clips from old DVDs/Laserdiscs?

With regards to the Evil Dead 2 workprint: I don't want to sound like a killjoy but about 5 years ago me and some friends were offered this and when the tape turned up it just turned out to be a generated dub of the film, and not a workprint - so don't get your hopes up too much.

OK, so how serious are people about this project and who is going to be involved in putting it together? I culd may be upload the VCDs I have so the people who are compiling this can see what is available.

Yeah I searched Bruce Campbell on Youtube and there are alot of Q&As,and other stuff that would go great with this project.

I imagine the short missing was Six Months To Live it's around though it viewable quality. XYZ Murders became Crimewave and there is no DVD in sight. For the Evil Dead 2 workprint I surely hope this is not just a generated dub probably though but I'll try and get it anyway. I e-mailed your friend and it seems the original tape is gone which sucks. I'd love to get your vcd and svcd copies of it all if possible.

Incidently when I did a google search for crimewave dvd the guy who sent the tape to Bill to be encoded's posts on http://www.horrordvds.com/ came up, is anyone a member of that board? He posts as Dues Ex Machina. It may be possible to get a copy of the tape (with 6 months to die on it) from him if he can be tracked down, I could ask another friend who may still be in contact with him.

He has a DVD of WTW, he said the quality isn't great but it must be better than mine. Hopefully I'll have a copy in a few days. I wish I was a member at horrordvds but I'm not it would be excellent to track down the best copy of the tape and transfer it today I'm sure it'll blow all the other copies out of the water.

So you're getting a copy from Bill? Well no point in me upping mine - as mine are captured by him from the same tape, but as VCDs and SVCDs - are you getting the rest of the shorts also? You should ask him if he has the hail to the king trailer still on his hard drive.

I found someone with a true copy of the workprint,so if the one Molto is getting isn't legit,I know someone that has it and it is a hour long with different dialogue and voice overs as he explains it.

on the french dvd the ISFS runs 27.18 minutes.

The french dvd has also a exclusive itw with Campbell on video (23.41 minutes)

There's quite a few exclusive features across the different versions of ED2, worth making up a list of all the things that would be desirable to get for this project from the various ED trillogy DVDs released over the years, across the globe.
